You’ve got to go to Hukka falls whilst you are in the North Island and try a bucket of freshwater prawns in garlic butter. ❤❤
The ridges on the hills are “circular slip failures” (AKA rotational slips, or slumps). Rather than being a slow form of surface erosion like wind or rain runoff, a circle slip is a structural failure where a cohesive mass of earth breaks away along a curved, scoop-shaped boundary and slides downward and outward. People often mistakenly think they are sheep tracks.
Great vlog. Beautiful. Question, how's the shower? Hope Trevor is now fixed. X
Another beaut one. Thank you
Kia ora! Welcome to Spring on the North Island, New Zealand!
I didn't see any comments about it so not sure if anyone has told you that the terracing on the hills is caused by the grazing animals walking around the landscape.
The coffee in Patea is why you saw the police there. They say if want a good coffee, find where the local police buy theirs.
The parrot you saw was probably a Rosella. The colours you described sound about right. There are many of them scattered around rural New Zealand. Probably descended from escaped pets.
Great video @Tread the Globe I enjoyed some of the places I visited on the way back up the north Island the Burger King at New Plymouth where I had lunch.
He slept like a baby, so basically he work up every 4 hours, sounds terrible to me. I prefer to sleep like a log, much better 🙂
Watching from New Mexico USA ❤
Cake and wine, no hiking. You know that. 😂😂😂
Tom Cruise filmed the Last Shogun in Taranaki using Egmont in lieu of Fuji …
If you are going to be photographing or videoing through your windows, you people should clean your windows inside and outside very well. Check your clarity daily, and also remove sudden appearances (like bird droppings) immediately so your videos are always the best they can be. Wash with water first, then when ever mud specks or dust specks or smears appear, use a window cleaner fluid called MrMuscle (in NZ), spray then wipe very well with a non-dust or fibre producing cloth and finally wipe very well with a clean dry cloth. Do this frequently or whenever you see even a minore mess. If your glass is clean you won't see any nasty smudges on you video monitor. If you don't believe me, have a specific look at this video, and you will see the mess on your windows which defiles the video, especially in the earlier part where the side window had a mass of dried mud-dust rings. Clean, clean, clean. That is what I do every day when on a trip. Have a nice time, Bye.
I hope that is all your troubles with “ Trevor”. That has been a very expensive “fix” and one you should never have had. It would have been lovely to have spent more time in the South Island. 😊
Roseallas Australian Parrot Flew over here years ago
Wong a mom a na
In some hilly places in NZ, where there are roadside cuttings, the councils do spray a mixture of mud and grass seed onto the cliff face, to get grass growing there. Presumably the grass roots help to bind the surface and stop minor slips and dirt falls. Particularly when the underlying "rock" is a form of mudstone, or otherwise an easily decaying material. And some of those green growths of strange shaped plants that you see on many places are actualy lichens, not mosses.
"Cake and whine" – Marianne, 2026. Brilliant tramping idea. Love it!
Your drone shots are amazing!❤❤
I hope you are going to visit the real Hobbiton on your travels. The west coast of the North Island is all black volcanic sand – very hot to walk on in the summer because of the high iron content. I live in Wanganui (sometimes spelt without the h and pronounced one-gan- oo-ee ) Hope Trevor is all sorted – enjoy the rest of NZ.
Parrot you saw was an Eastern Rosella.
We have driven the Forgotten World Highway three times. The first time there was around 11 kms of gravel road but thankfully it's all sealed now. We had our driver's side wing mirror clipped off by a passing vehicle on a narrow part where we had slowed down but they decided to speed! Most DOC camps are 'online booking only' and that's how payment is made usually. I think they have the envelopes as a backup. By in NZ we say DOC as "dock" camps, not the letters individually. Safe travels and I do hope Trevor is now fixed 🙂
Awesome guys, I’m definitely putting the forgotten highway down for my road trip next year. The drone footage gives a different perspective. Where ever you go in NZ, what ever the season, the scenery is always stunning, just sheer rugged beauty.
I was just thinking about your canvas etc and wonder if that is why there have been so many leaky homes over the last 20 or more years. Why would anyone think it was water tight when the water can run down on the inside. You should be given a credit for that invoice . Surely common sense would tell you . No unfortunately there is no thinking about an issue it’s just done. Amazing how people’s brains take on a not working moment and then it’s all overlooked and hey here’s the bill. Shame on those people.
Hello Ambassadors
I am glad that you sorted out a few problems and hopefully, from now on you will be headache free. Cross fingers!
Such a beautiful scenery, amazing sites you brought to us. Donna's British friend was asking about you two, I told her that you are on the return leg of the trip to England and at this time you folks are in NZ.
Well, everyone sends their love to you.
Just be safe and keep making these great videos.
You drove through our town of Foxton. We live at Foxton Beach. We would have loved to have met you both.
The terracing you say on the hill sides on your way to Whanganui is caused by stock moving around the sidling's over time. love you video's, happy travels and hope you have no more leaks
Omgoodness Thank you for the amazing sites. Beautiful scenery all the way. I'm jealous. 😅
Hi
Glad your camper is sorted
That thing you thought was a big
Silver fern just north of welly
Is actually a white feather sculpture.
Happy travels
Cheers😅
so sad you came to New Plymouth and I missed you
The last time i drove over the the World 🌎 Forgotten Highway it was a gravel road most of the way i actually prefer driving on gravel back roads around New Zealand less traffic and beautiful scenery 👌 😊
Have a nice nickname for Trevor… Squeaky!
The moss with no chiggers is lichen (pronounced liken). The clearer the atmosphere the more prolifically it grows, usually but not exclusively on the south side of trees and buildings.
You off to Aussie soon? Does trevor have aircon?
Thank you for another great video.😊
Whanganui is where I live. Would have been funny to randomly see you driving past.
Highly recommend Tarawera Falls track via Kawerau. I think it's the prettiest waterfall in NZ. 700m walk from carpark. Only available on weekends and public holidays. $10 access fee.
My husband and I have been watching you tripping around our beautiful country. We often said, "Wouldn't it be cool if you came to New Plymouth. We would have loved to have seen you both and to top it off you, visited our favorite weekend freedom camp spot over the summer.
Fingers crossed no leaks!, at least your heading in the right direction now, cheers and beers !
It's called a dairy because its where you got your milk and cheese and bread originally. It was the main thing the household needed, dairy.
There is a fault line that forms the backbone of New Zealand and that doesn't stop at Cook Strait. The North Island also has volcanoes that have shaped the land and they are not yet extinct, unlike the South Island's.
Always interesting to hear the views of overseas visitors on our country. Nice to see it through someone else’s eyes to be honest, I never considered our roads to be in a particularly good condition. Typically, our infrastructure is fairly precarious and as an example, state Highway 3 has been closed 3 times in the last nine months due to landslides. Don’t forget, that this is the main arterial route leading north out of the region. The alternative is the forgotten world Highway which you have just traveled which is possibly not a good alternative.
Those "bumps in the ground" you passed on the way around south of Mt Egmont / Taranaki are volcanic lahar mounds coming from the volcano. They give you some idea of it's "reach". Cheers
Kapiti ice cream is the best!
