Join **Big Stoozer Adventures** as I return to the magnificent **Pentland Hills Regional Park** for another unforgettable mountain biking adventure—this time in search of one of Scotland’s most isolated historical landmarks.

Starting in the beautiful Borders village of **West Linton**, this challenging cross-country MTB route heads deep into the remote Scottish moorlands before climbing the rugged slopes of **Black Law Hill**. Hidden high on the hillside lies the lonely grave of a wounded Covenanter, a haunting reminder of one of Scotland’s most turbulent periods in history.

The grave is believed to mark the final resting place of a Covenanter who was mortally wounded during the **Battle of Rullion Green** on **28 November 1666**. The battle was fought between approximately 900 Covenanter rebels and government forces commanded by General Thomas Dalziel. Although heavily outnumbered, the Covenanters fought courageously before being defeated on the eastern slopes of the Pentland Hills. Tradition tells us that one badly wounded survivor struggled across the moors before dying on Black Law Hill, where sympathetic locals buried him beneath a simple stone that still stands today, over 350 years later.

The adventure begins in the charming conservation village of **West Linton**, nestled on the northern edge of the Scottish Borders. Dating back to medieval times, the village has long been an important stopping point on the historic drove roads between the Borders and Edinburgh. Today, West Linton is known for its attractive stone cottages, welcoming atmosphere, and spectacular setting surrounded by rolling hills, making it an ideal gateway to the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Expect a ride packed with steep climbs, rough estate tracks, open heather-covered moorland, breathtaking panoramic views, and the sense of isolation that makes this part of Scotland so special. Reaching the lonely grave after such a demanding climb is both moving and rewarding, combining adventure with a fascinating piece of Scottish history.

This adventure was filmed using the **DJI Osmo Action 3** and stunning aerial footage captured by the **DJI Mavic Air 2** drone, showcasing the wild beauty of the Pentland Hills from both the ground and the sky.
