電気かガソリンか100年前イケイケの電気自動車がガソリン車に敗れ去った理由

Hello, I’m Madam Sarai . Thank you for always watching. I look forward to watching again in 2024. This time, as usual, I’ll be introducing the EV-related trellis, which is a recent trend , with Sue-chan, the narrator. However, I think that Mercedes-Benz is rapidly rolling out the EQ series

As a catchphrase as the world is being reborn under the catchphrase “ gasoline or electric.” Well, I’ve heard some explanations of the EQ series even in the showroom. Well, that’s the end of the story, but in fact, everyone knows that this electric car is not new at all, but

The EV that is currently being sold is the second challenge for an automobile manufacturer . For example , electric cars were put into practical use earlier than gasoline cars, and not only EVs but also Nissan’s E-Power, which uses the engine to generate electricity,

And Mazda’s recently revived rotary engine hybrid system have been around for over 100 years. It was devised by Dr. Porsche and put into practical use a long time ago.The introduction is a little long, but this time I ‘ve summarized the history of the internal combustion engine, which is in an eternal rivalry

With electric cars, so please take a look. This year, 2024, marks the 100th anniversary since Mr. Yanase stopped selling the electric car Milburn. Listen, everyone, they stopped selling EVs 100 years ago.Yanase founder Chotaro Yanase said , Yanase Shokai was established in 1915, the 4th year of the Taisho era, and two years later,

Along with Buick, Cadillac, and others, they began selling an electric vehicle called the Milburn Electric for six years.Let’s take a look at EVs and internal combustion at that time. Sue-chan, please tell me more about the engine in more detail . Understood, Madam. Now

, I will explain the history of electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engines. First of all, this is the year in which EVs were created and put into practical use. The car industry was introduced in 1886, and there are only a few EVs, but they have a long history, and

Automakers at the time were all focusing on developing electric cars. The reason for this is that although gasoline cars had a promising future, it was difficult to drive. The main reason for this is that starting with a hand crank makes it difficult to change gears, it is also noisy, and

The exhaust gas is unpleasant. And with the spread of electricity , EVs have become popular in large cities such as New York. It gained popularity and was widely used in taxis, etc., and Maeda was considered to be a great success. As evidenced by this, even Henry Ford, the famous car tycoon,

Collaborated with his friend Thomas Edison to create an electric car. The image you see is the Milburn Wagon Company’s Milburn Electric, which was the most successful model at the time of the EV era.During its eight-year production period from 1915 to 1923, 4,000 cars were produced. The model imported

By Yanase Shokai is also here.It is a typical electric car manufactured for use in cities and towns, but the range it can run on a single full charge is about 100km . Five years later, a cruising range of 250 km was achieved

Through improvements to the battery and the introduction of a replacement battery pack replacement device.By the way , the reality is that, as Mr. Yanase says , the infrastructure is underdeveloped and storage batteries are extremely heavy. It seems that they had a hard time selling it due to its short lifespan, but

I have put an excerpt from Chotaro Yanase’s memoir in the description section, so please refer to it if you would like.Charging stations, etc., which are currently a problem with EVs. It’s amazing how far- sighted the issue has been since 100 years ago. What do you think? It’s true that when cars first started running,

There was a competition to develop EVs that rivaled gasoline-powered cars . At the beginning of 2019, nearly 40% of the cars in American metropolitan areas were EVs, and looking at Milburn and others, their performance was no different from today’s light EVs 100 years later.Incidentally, this is the first time in history

EVs were the first to receive speeding tickets , but according to a newspaper at the time, they were caught driving at speeds of 19km/h and arrested by a police officer who chased after them on a bicycle.Back to the topic . However , in fact, this story of the genesis of EVs

Also features a person you are familiar with. His name is Ferdinand Porsche. That ‘s right, Dr. Porsche was also one of the people who was passionate about EVs.After all, he was the first to design the car. The car he did was an electric car called P1.He named it P1

, or Porsche Number One , to show that it was the first Porsche-designed car in history.Well , it’s a really easy-to – understand name, but actually … This P1 is also an unknown legendary car.As Madam said, Dr. Porsche’s memorable first car is officially called the Eggerlowner electric car C.2 Phaeton model. This is

A car called P1 for short . This is the vehicle that was assigned to develop an electric drivetrain for the automobile manufacturer Jacob Rohner, where he was working as an apprentice engineer. It had a simple structure with the Porsche P1 powertrain motor attached to the rear, but it weighed only 130kg .

The cruising range is approximately 80 km with a motor that generates 3 horsepower. Also , this model has a power mode that increases the horsepower by 2 horsepower for a short period of time, and the maximum speed at that time is 25 km. The Porsche P1 was tested at an electric car race in

September 1899. Participants in this race completed 24 miles with three passengers on board. However, Ferdinand Porsche drove the P1 and crossed the finish line 18 minutes faster than the second place team.Porsche P1 was the first car to be built, but

It was equipped with a power mode of 3 horsepower to 5 horsepower, and was tested. However, it is different from being a genius when it comes to actual races . What’s more, in a race that also served as a test, they won with an 18-minute difference from second place, which is really amazing.

But there’s no time to be surprised. Two years later, a car similar to the Nissan e-Power, We are debuting a model equipped with a hybrid system that specializes in the engine for power generation. This model is even equipped with the regenerative braking system familiar to Prius. No wonder Madam is surprised.Porsche

P1 Just two years after the development of the “Semper Vivus”, Dr. Porsche designed the world’s first hybrid car, the “Semper Vivus,’ ‘ to compensate for the shortcoming of EVs, the cruising range. It is a model that dramatically extends the cruising range by constantly charging the battery.Furthermore ,

The wheel hub is also equipped with a regenerative braking system, which is an epoch-making feature that supplies the kinetic energy during braking to the battery as electricity. This hybrid car “Semper Vivs” was released in 1901 as the mass-produced Lohner Porsche “Mixto”, but

At the time it was not something that only a very wealthy person could afford and sales were slow. Therefore, this Mixt became Dr. Porsche’s last electric car.By the way , this is a side note, but there is another hybrid car designed by Dr. Porsche. It is a 60-ton heavy tank called Porsche Tiger. This

Was designed by Dr. Porsche, who believed that a mechanical transmission would fail under the enormous weight of a tank, and focused on the fact that the motor could run without a transmission. Two V10 engines were used to generate a generator. It supplies electricity and is driven by two 230 kilowatt motors. In

The end, the weight of the system itself became an issue, and it ended up being a prototype vehicle. What do you think ? Dr. Porsche’s hybrid EV In fact , I think you can understand that even hybrid technology existed 120 years ago. From its birth to the beginning, EVs

Were being developed to compete openly with internal combustion engines. So , why? , has it declined so much that modern people have no recollection of it? We’re going to unravel that from now on.First of all, one of the biggest reasons is the birth of the Ford Model T.Cars at that time

Were truly the flowers of Takamine. It was a luxury car that was perfectly described as a gasoline car.Not to mention a gasoline car, an EV was nearly twice as expensive as a gasoline car, so it was not something that the working class could afford.Henry Ford , who later

Became known as the automobile king, The Ford Model T was developed and released into the world with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The Ford Model T was developed under the slogan of creating a car that everyone could afford. The only color on the car was black . There is a famous anecdote that

Any customer can have their car painted in the color of their choice. In fact , it was so affordable that at one point it became so popular that most Americans owned it. The price at the time of its release in 1908 was $850, but

As production equipment expanded and became more efficient, the price continued to fall year by year, and by 1923 it was less than $300. At the time, many electric cars were nearly 10 times more expensive. The replacement battery pack was priced at $600, a

Price difference that would allow you to buy two T models. In addition , the number of units sold was 15 million units, second only to the Volkswagen Beetle as a single car model . Mr. Ford actually used to do battery research at the famous Thomas Edison’s company.

He is, so to speak, the poster boy for EVs. After work, he spends his time in the barn at home researching gasoline engines with his wife. Apparently, they started developing the engine first with the goal of making a car that everyone could afford. In a sense, without Ford, we wouldn’t be in

Today’s car society. What do you think? Another big factor is the electric motor. The birth of EVs would not have been possible without the invention of the electric motor, which is the key to power. It is no exaggeration to say that electric motors have brought about the end of EVs.What is

An electric motor in a gasoline car? It is a starter when starting the engine. In Japan, it is generally called a starter motor. It is said that the invention of the starter made a huge leap forward for gasoline-powered cars , but there was a sad story behind its development. When starting the engine,

Gasoline-powered cars at the time had to turn the crank rod vigorously to start the engine . They had to start the car, which was a very difficult task and also a very dangerous act.It is said that this starting method was the sole reason

Why EV sales increased despite their high price. There is even a theory that in 1908, a female driver of a Cadillac stopped on the road in Michigan, unable to crank the engine, was at a loss.A driver who happened to be passing by offered to help her. His name was Byron Carter,

Who happened to be a friend of Henry Leland, the founder of Cadillac. Carter made him crank the car vigorously, but it backfired and the crank hit him in the face , and he died the next day . In the wake of the accident, Leland vowed to eliminate hand starter cranks from Cadillac cars. Then,

After development in 1912, many twists and turns including patent issues led to the installation of an electric starter.I also turned the crank rod. There are some things, but it’s impossible to say it clearly. For those who ride motorcycles, the phenomenon of “Ketchin” may be easier to understand.Well , anyway,

With the advent of electric starters, electric cars have lost a huge advantage . The final factor behind the decline of EV is that we are too constrained in our actions. The fact that you can’t always worry about the remaining battery level and charging spots while going to your favorite places when you like

Has not changed from 100 years ago.In the 1920s, charging spots were relatively well-equipped in urban areas such as New York. That’s true, but even so, the number of EVs gradually decreased, and by 1935, most EVs had disappeared.Although it ‘s more than a high ,

I’d like to finish the trivia about electric cars . How will the trend of EVs change in the future, and what will happen to internal combustion engines such as gasoline and diesel cars? I think it will be a while before we can find out the answers, but what do you think?

If you like it, please let me know in the comments. If you think this video was helpful, I’d appreciate it if you could give it a thumbs up.I’d also appreciate it if you could subscribe to the channel.See you again.Goodbye .
