Lack of Sleep Is Breaking Me

Cycling the world – Asia: episode 45
I leave another sleepless night in the Omani desert behind and continue south with a rare tailwind before everything changes once again. Violent sandstorms, heavy rain and relentless headwinds turn every kilometre into a struggle as exhaustion from my leaking sleeping pad begins to catch up with me. Between remote villages, abandoned settlements and roadside prayer rooms, I fight to keep moving despite the pain. Eventually I reach Duqm, hoping one more repair can finally put an end to the problem that has been haunting me for days.

  2. I love my weekly dose of inspiration, provided by you of course. I guess your mattress problem was back in April, so I hope you got it solved. 185 km day loaded and under a hot sun, respect Davide. All those years of riding don't go without its rewards, like endurance. I also hope your back is doing better. Safe travels.

  3. This whole middle east section of your trip is like groundhog day. It's like you are going round in circles. When will you get out of this monotonous sand-filled shit hole? I can't live without greenery around me. This would drive me to insanity.

  4. I don't understand anyone who buys dark clothes for a desert excursion, or any company that makes dark desert clothes. I thought only Brits were that (sorry for the harshness) senseless.

  5. Bad luck with the sleeping pad Davide. Try a soapy water solution to pinpoint the leak. Works well when identifying leaks in car tyre valves. Safe travels 🙏

  6. I don't think people understand how bad the humidity in the middle-east can get. It's extremely high atm. I just poke my head out of the balcony door and I'm done already lol. It's so bad it creates a humidity fog – a soup of sticky, dusty wet heat. Can't imagine cycling in these conditions with little sleep, pain and strong wind. Davide, you are one tough mofo.
