⚠️ Train Harder, NOT Smarter!
🇬🇧 Documenting my life ‘on the run’ in Japan

For nearly three years living in Japan, my life has basically revolved around one thing… daily devotion to the Marathon Gods.. Every trip, every train ride, every brutal training camp, it’s always been for running with a performance over everything mindset on this sub-2:10 marathon journey. But recently I realised something ridiculous… I’ve never actually explored
Japan properly. And apparently there’s one place that Japanese runners escape to every winter when they need sunshine, huge mileage and a mental reset from the chaos of mainland training. So today, I’m heading deep into tropical Okinawa to find out why…

  1. chat, having been to okinawa twice, can confirm it's a sub-tropical paradise with a interesting cultural blend (american, japanese, even some chinese/taiwanese elements). Would recommend visiting even if not for running

  2. Typical runner, goes on holiday to switch off and then talks about all the great running areas for training sessions 😂

  3. No hacker can stop that Sunday upload schedule! 😤 Let me know if this vid showed up as usual for you on YouTube and if my profile pic/channel name are looking normal (hopefully I haven’t been blacklisted for crypto-scamming!)

  4. Glad all back to normal with the channel. It would have been a shame to miss you taking one for the team and testing all these dishes.

  5. You came to my backyard and didn't even let me know! I run by the Churaumi Aquarium several times a week on about a 15k loop. I'm at the track you showed 5:57 and later in Motobu most days, usually just to round out the mileage I want to hit (I hate running in circles). Sata Undagi is AMAZING!!! There's a pretty good variation in taste, texture, etc., depending on how well it is made. Can sometimes be disappointing. You probably got some average stuff, and then with the ice cream that would surely be great, it just left the sata undagi tasting meh at best. Edit again: You road the bike down "my friend" at the very end; the hill just past the track. I am on that hill almost daily and call it "my friend" cuz I used to hammer hill repeats there before when I was serious (for me) training some years ago. Would alter workouts of running halfway up the hill at 85~90ish %, and all the way up at 75~80ish %. I attribute my 20 years of almost completely injury free running to that training. Really need to do it again as I'm trying to get back into high mileage running.

  6. You need to re-apply sunscreen every few hours, also make sure you're using enough, gotta keep that cancer away 😂

  7. Glad to see some proper YouTube content again, not a fan of your live stream rambles (sorry), but what’s with the accents!! And your pronunciation of speciality was American 😡 Don’t forget your British roots. Content was enjoyable especially as I’m planning a long trip to Japan next year.

  8. Some advice on cycling: keep yourself in a low gear and spin your legs fassttt – 90rpm at least. This shifts the load from your muscles into your cardio system.
Might not apply but most new cyclists pedal way too slowly and experience what you've described RE legs failing.

  9. Nice video Jake, even after getting hacked. If u want this kind of humidity, as Malaysian, i would suggest u to come and try training here. Veryy humid, unpredictable and a 20/10 unhealthy SCRAN!

  10. Jake, after your recent hack issue, you should think about doing a newsletter to collect your viewer email addresses, so if the worst happens you have a way to rebuild. YouTube is rented land, a mailing list gives you something you own.
