月1,500ポンド以下で暮らせるイギリスの10の町

What towns in the UK can you live on less than £1,500 a month? The rising cost of living has reshaped how many people think about home. Rent, groceries, transport — everything seems to creep up. Yet despite the pressure, there are still corners of the UK where your money stretches further, where rent doesn’t swallow your paycheck, and where everyday life feels manageable. These are places where community still matters, where cafés don’t cost a fortune, and where a single person can realistically live on a budget of £1,500 per month or less. After verifying affordability, rental trends, and local living costs, here are the 10 most affordable towns in the UK, ranked from 10 to 1.

10. Paisley, Renfrewshire
Paisley is a Scottish town that delivers big value without big prices. Although it sits right beside Glasgow, the town maintains its own identity — creative, lively, and rich in heritage — while keeping its day-to-day living costs grounded. One-bed rentals often fall between the £500–£650 range, placing it comfortably within the reach of someone aiming for low-cost UK living.
Local shops and cafés come with fair prices, and the town centre blends history with a warm, modern buzz. Public transport is also one of Paisley’s strong points. Buses and trains into Glasgow are quick and affordable, making it ideal for commuters who want to save money without giving up city opportunities.
Paisley earns its place at number ten because it strikes a rare balance — access to a major city, great cultural life, and the ability to keep your monthly spending under control. For anyone seeking affordable towns in Scotland, this is one to consider.

9. South Shields, Tyne and Wear
South Shields is a classic northern coastal town with a reputation for friendliness, scenery, and value. Unlike many seaside locations where rent has skyrocketed, South Shields remains grounded. One-bed flats often land around the £500–£600 mark, making it an excellent pick for anyone wanting a coastal lifestyle without the coastal price tag.
The long sandy beach, beautiful promenades, and dramatic cliff walks give you endless free entertainment. The town’s transport links into the wider Tyne and Wear region keep travel simple and inexpensive. And with plenty of supermarkets and budget-friendly food options, South Shields fits neatly into the category of cheap places to live in the UK.
It ranks at number nine because it offers a healthy balance of charm, affordability, and coastal beauty — all while fitting comfortably under a £1,500 monthly lifestyle.

8. Llanelli, Carmarthenshire
Llanelli is one of the most overlooked affordable towns in Wales. With a peaceful setting along the Carmarthenshire coastline, it offers a lifestyle built around comfort and calm. One-bed rents around £500–£650 make it a strong candidate for people searching for budget towns in Britain.
One of Llanelli’s biggest strengths is how much value you get at almost no cost. The Millennium Coastal Path is a major attraction — miles of beautiful seaside walking and cycling routes, all free. Local cafés, shops, and restaurants tend to be modestly priced, and day-to-day living feels relaxed.
Llanelli earns the number eight spot because it delivers a gentle pace of life, scenic surroundings, and genuine affordability — a combination many renters struggle to find elsewhere in the UK.

7. Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Doncaster is a town that blends convenience with affordability, making it a consistent favourite among people looking for affordable UK towns that still feel well-connected. Verified rental averages place one-bed flats at around £472 per month, depending on the neighbourhood.
Its friendly town centre, strong transport links, and accessible shopping areas make Doncaster a practical and comfortable place to live. The cost of groceries trends on the lower side, and public transport is reasonable, with local buses and rail lines connecting to major northern cities.
Doncaster ranks at number seven because it offers exceptional value without sacrificing daily convenience. It feels like a town designed with everyday people in mind — and that’s a big win for budget-conscious renters.

6. Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Barnsley is one of South Yorkshire’s great affordability success stories. With one-bed rentals around £474 per month, the town provides a buffer that many places in the UK can no longer offer.

  1. Blimey the cost of living in the UK has got ridiculous. I live in Ecuador and you could get a nice modern three-bedroom, two bathroom house to rent for less than half of the prices quoted here for one bedroom flats. And you would think they would somehow train this AI voice to pronounce the names of places properly. La-Nelly? These are mostly depressed areas where the collapse of the coal industry or the fishing industry left a huge gap. Rents are cheap because these towns do not have universities.

  2. I have lived in at least 4 of these towns, and know 3 others well. No mention here of crime and to say that these places havebeen " bathed in sunshine" to sell them here would be an understatement. I would describe many of them as " deeply depressing"

  3. This video very conveniently leaves out what many people would consider the most important factor in choosing a place to live – crime rates. Almost every town on this list and every town ranked 1 through 5 here has a high crime rate, high rate of homelessness, and high poverty (what the British call 'deprivation'.) While these towns look very attractive as portrayed here, LOOK UP THE CRIME STATISTICS!

  4. Who writes this crap? Middlesborough is not in Yorkshire! And all these places are complete and utter crime ridden dumps – that is why they are so relatively cheap.

  5. Blackpool provides "affordability and atmosphere". Well, that's one way of describing grinding poverty, high unemployment, homelessness, alcoholism, drug addiction and diminished life expectancy.
