赤い屋根の駅舎と桜　Red-roofed station building and cherry blossoms

旧国鉄日中線は国鉄末期の1984年3月末で運行を止め廃線となりました。その線路跡が「日中線記念自転車歩行者道」として整備されました。かつての始発駅であった喜多方駅前から約3km先の松山町村松まで歩道の両側にしだれ桜が植えられ、春の開花時期には大勢の観光客が訪れています。途中には、1974年11月のSLさよなら列車をけん引したC1163号機が保存され、当時の姿を想起させています。線路跡の大部分は農道や市道で利用されていて、現在、しだれ桜を植樹して熱塩駅までつなぐ活動が有志により行われています。

The former Japanese National Railways Nichiu Line ceased operation at the end of March 1984, at the end of the JNR era, and was abandoned. The former track has been developed into the Nichiu Line Memorial Bicycle and Pedestrian Path. Weeping cherry trees are planted on both sides of the path from Kitakata Station, the former starting station, to Muramatsu, Matsuyama Town, about 3km away, and many tourists visit in the spring when they bloom. Along the way, the C1163 locomotive, which pulled the farewell steam locomotive train in November 1974, has been preserved, evoking the appearance of the area at the time. Most of the former track is used as farm and city roads, and volunteers are working to connect the track to Atsushio Station with weeping cherry trees.
