My NIGHTMARE in Iraq: I Crashed & was Harassed (twice)
Cycling the world – Asia: episode 21
I leave Baghdad escorted by a local cycling team and roll out of the city feeling oddly relaxed. The road is smooth and the day lazy until I reach the ancient city of Babylon. Reluctantly I pay the entrance fee only to realise that what is left is either piles of mud or reconstructions that look more like Minecraft than history. The heat is brutal. At sunset I ask to camp at a mosque and instead I am given a room food and a shower. The following day turns into my Iraqi nightmare. A truck knocks me off my bike on a busy highway and I am lucky not to be hit by the cars behind me. I walk away with a smashed knee scraped hands and a bent pedal. Later the same day I am harassed twice by two different men. Exhausted and shaken I approach what I think is a mosque for the night only to discover it is the residence of the most influential sheik in the region. He invites me to stay and have dinner with him.

Molto bene Davide! Forza Juventus⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️ Sempre!! Sono iou Raffaele 🤝🤗💪
The man just show'd some next level road side hospitality and you just told him to F off!? Fucking hell, Davide!😂
catch a train , get out of there
well, at lest you found some good people in the end. sometimes it's just one of those days.
by the way, I couldn't find it in the dictionary what you at one time said: "vai a fare in culo, pezzo di merda". that was probably Arabic, I guess.
safe trails.
I will never, ever, ever have a route through Iraq.
alla fine almeno un evento positivo! 😁
stay safe out there!
ps: stavo pensando (già da parecchi video) come sta vicino al cordolo sulla strada è pericolossisimo! come fa a non cadere? 2 secondi dopo cadi.
One thing I think the kids were right about, meat is not for cyclist and definitely the root of back problems and even more.
People just want to get somewhere else when they have enough population. Babylon was artistic and unreplaceable. The whole silk road used to have these. No? Progress isn't always good.😊😅
Crazy, also just few hours ago Instagram showed me a Reel from hitchhikertimo, the dude is hitchiking through the world and while in Saudi Arabia and he was sexually harassed/attacked by a local… sounded pretty close to your experience as well even if it got worse for him…
Subtitles missing at 17:32 just after breakfast 😉
You wouldn't ever catch me on that road that's a highway with zero regard for bikes. It just looks like a road to get killed on.
All the hospitality you received in Iraq and this is how you repay the guys who bombed you with kisses ? Not good
If you ask they have water and he say " el hamma blah lamma blah blablabla…." he probly no speak English
Fascinating to watch, harrowing for the entire length of it, I am glad you were not more seriously injured, I honestly thought "what in the f*ck is Davide doing in Iraq?" but that was just aweome to see. 🙏
Won't be going there
Big up to the guys and gal that escorted you out of Baghdad 🙌🏆. Good to see cycling cameraderie💐
For more views use good language 👌
Flash backs of my own travels … sometimes people can be a real pain in the a… and have no respect … yeah man, I totally dig your straight forward no bullshit attitude! Keep it up.
Yes, the streets of Iraq are dirty, but they don't have drunks and prostitutes like in other European countries.
Hello bro. Im sorry you had met those bad persons in Iraq the are not belong to us i tell you not all iraqi people like them. 90℅ of us welcome and treat the tourist verry good. My respect for you mr. Daived and god bless you 👆🤝✊
Sensually harassed twice and then you hang around a public toilet!…? Ha ha……You like living dangerously 😅
Lgbtq community got aroused in Iraq🤣
Wow! First you we're saying that it was boring, and then things changed. What an eventful day!
Well you have said you were single and ready to mingle . Why didnt you mingle when the opportunity came
Mi dispiace che non ti sia piaciuta Babilonia. Va visitata con una guida o con un bel libro di storia. Per chi è appassionato di storia antica, è molto più di un cumulo di rocce. Io l'ho adorata.
I wouldn’t cycle in a backward corrupt Islamic country such as Iraq even if you paid me. What made you ride there?
I thought homosexuality was punishable by death in Islam?
