All year round, locals and visitors gather here at the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary (Mariensäule), to celebrate sports team victories, experience the magic of Christmas, or simply begin their tour of the city’s monuments. You can reach Marienplatz through the medieval gates Isartor and Karlstor on the east-west route, or through the corresponding Schwabing and Sendlinger Tor on the north-south route. All roads lead to the splendid buildings around the square, where the imposing New Town Hall or Neues Rathaus stands out. Its details are breathtaking, while in the clock tower, figures depict the history of Bavaria every day at 11 a.m., in the Glockenspiel. The iconic Frauenkirche cathedral is a symbol of the city, where visitors can climb the 100-meter-high tower, that offers panoramic views of the city and the Alps. Bavarian emperors and kings are buried in the 500-year-old Gothic church, and it is said that the Devil himself once visited the church. Nearby is the Platzl. Magnificent mansions and cobbled streets create a cozy atmosphere, just like medieval Munich once was. in the world-famous Hofbräuhaus, which has been here since 1608, you can experience the beer tradition with all your senses. A little further down, we find the Viktualienmarkt, an open-air market offering fresh produce, local delicacies, flowers and traditional Bavarian snacks. A great place to get to know the food culture and a huge range of fresh products. Near Marienplatz we see the old town hall housing a toy museum, the Gothic St. Peter’s Church, and the Asamkirche on Sendlingerstrasse which are worth your attention. Karlsplatz Square, better known as Stachus, is formed by the Karlstor Gate with a semicircle of buildings and the nearby Courthouse. It serves as the entrance to Munich’s largest pedestrian zone. The German phrase “Da geht’s ja zu wie am Stachus” has spread beyond Munich throughout Bavaria, as a way to describe a place where a lot is happening. Following a northerly direction we are led to OdeonsPlatz, an Italian-style square that lends itself to an unforgettable dolce vita. The Theatinerkirche of St. Cajetan is a Roman Catholic church that is very reminiscent of Italy, and the Generals’ Hall Feldherrnhalle resembles the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. We have arrived at the Residenz Palace, the royal residence of the Bavarian monarchs, with ornate halls, a treasury and the Hofgarten garden. It is the largest palace in any German city center, hosting a variety of styles, ranging from baroque to rococo and neoclassical. Nearby is the Munich opera house Bayerische Staatsoper. Maximillianstrasse is an elegant boulevard with galleries, museums and monuments, that leads to the Maximilianeum building, which houses the Bavarian parliament. We come across the Isar River, an ideal place for a walk and relaxation in Munich. Built on an island in the river is the Deutsches Museum, the German Museum of Science and Technology, a traditional museum and a modern, interactive installation, the largest in the world. With its magnificent buildings, Königsplatz Square combines ancient Greek architecture with European classicism. Concerts and festivals are held in the early 19th century square, mainly in the summer months. Nearby are impressive museums, such as the Glyptotheque, the State Collection of Classical Antiquities, the Lenbachhaus with works of modern painting and the Egyptian Museum. At a distance of 7 km there is a baroque palace with vast gardens and elegant pavilions. It is the Nymphenburg Palace, the summer residence of the Bavarian rulers, an ideal opportunity to travel back in time and the opulence of the local monarchy. One of the largest urban parks in the world, ideal for leisurely walks, cycling or simply enjoying a beer, is the English Gardens or Englischer Garten. Munich’s green lung covers an area of ​​375 hectares. A modern symbol of Munich is the Allianz Arena, the 75,000-capacity football stadium that hosts FC Bayern Munich. Tours of the stadium and museum attract sports fans all year round. Olympiapark was built for the 1972 Olympic Games. The Olympic Stadium and the 290 m high Olympic Tower stand out. The history and iconic BMW models are housed in the eponymous museum next to the company’s skyscraper. Munich’s Oktoberfest is the largest folk festival in the world. It was first held in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese, and has now become one of the top events in Munich. Around six million visitors from all over the world flock to the two-week festival at Theresienwiese every year. Two hours away, the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle was the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle, and is one of Germany’s most popular attractions. Linderhof Castle is an equally interesting day trip idea, as is the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Munich is magical at Christmas time, with twinkling lights, festive music, and the aroma of mulled wine and roast meat everywhere in the air. The Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz is the city’s main Christmas market, with the New Town Hall in the background. Stalls sell handmade decorations, wooden toys, gingerbread and Glühwein (mulled wine). Step back in time at the themed markets that feature medieval costumes, crafts and hearty Bavarian food. At the Sendlinger Tor Market you’ll find a smaller but traditional market with comfortable stalls and a warm atmosphere. Useful tips: Don’t leave Munich without trying Weißwurst (white sausage) with sweet mustard. Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) with sauerkraut. Brezn (pretzels) fresh from the bakeries. Local beers served in historic beer halls. Munich offers accommodation options ranging from luxury hotels near Marienplatz to boutique guesthouses and budget hostels. For Christmas visits, book early, as the city is packed with holiday travelers. The city has excellent rail, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and bus connections. For a festive Christmas, visit the city from late November to December. For Oktoberfest, from late September to early October. Spring and summer are ideal for exploring the countryside. Η καρδιά του Mονάχου χτυπάει δυνατά στην Marienplatz. Όλες τις εποχές του χρόνου, ντόπιοι και επισκέπτες συναντιούνται εδώ στο επιχρυσωμένο άγαλμα της Παρθένου Μαρίας (Mariensäule) για να γιορτάσουν νίκες αθλητικών ομάδων, να νιώσουν την μαγεία των Χριστουγέννων

Όλοι οι δρόμοι λοιπόν οδηγούν στα λαμπρά κτίρια γύρω από την πλατεία, όπου ξεχωρίζει το επιβλητικό Νέο Δημαρχείο ή Neues Rathaus.

Ο εμβληματικός καθεδρικός ναός Frauenkirche είναι ένα σύμβολο της πόλης

Σε κοντινή απόσταση βρίσκεται η Platzl. Μεγαλοπρεπή αρχοντικά και λιθόστρωτα δρομάκια δημιουργούν μια ζεστή ατμόσφαιρα όπως ήταν κάποτε το Μεσαιωνικό Μόναχο: Στο παγκοσμίως διάσημο Hofbräuhaus που βρίσκεται εδώ από το 1608, θα βιώσετε με όλες σας τις αισθήσεις την παράδοση της μπύρας.

Λίγο πιο κάτω, συναντάμε την Viktualienmarkt, υπαίθρια αγορά που προσφέρει φρέσκα προϊόντα, τοπικές λιχουδιές, λουλούδια και παραδοσιακά βαυαρικά σνακ.

Η Πλατεία Karlsplatz, πιο γνωστή ως Στάχους, σχηματίζεται από την πύλη Κάρλστορ με ένα ημικύκλιο από κτίρια και το Δικαστικό μέγαρο πλησίον. Χρησιμεύει ως η είσοδος για τη μεγαλύτερη πεζοδρομημένη ζώνη του Μονάχου.

Οδηγούμαστε στην OdeonsPlatz, πλατεία ιταλικού στιλ που προσφέρεται για ανεπανάληπτη dolce vita. Η Theatinerkirche του Αγίου Καϊετάν είναι ρωμαιοκαθολική εκκλησία που θυμίζει πολύ ιταλία και η Αίθουσα των Στρατηγών Feldherrnhalle μοιάζει με τη Loggia dei Lanzi της Φλωρεντίας.

Συναντάμε τον ποταμό Isar, ένα ιδανικό μέρος για βόλτα και χαλάρωση στο Μόναχο. Σε νησί επί του ποταμού είναι χτισμένο το Deutsches Museum, το Γερμανικό Μουσείο Αριστουργημάτων Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογίας, ένα παραδοσιακό μουσείο και μια σύγχρονη, διαδραστική εγκατάσταση, το μεγαλύτερο στον κόσμο.

Η Πλατεία Königsplatz συνδυάζει την αρχιτεκτονική αρχαιοελληνικού ρυθμού με τον ευρωπαϊκό κλασικισμό.
Εντυπωσιακά μουσεία, όπως η Γλυπτοθήκη, η Κρατική Συλλογή Κλασικών Αρχαιοτήτων, το Lenbachhaus με έργα μοντέρνας ζωγραφικής και το Αιγυπτιακό μουσείο.

Σε απόσταση 7 χμ βρίσκεται ένα μπαρόκ παλάτι με απέραντους κήπους και κομψά περίπτερα. Είναι το παλάτι των νυμφών ή Nymphenburg, η θερινή κατοικία των Βαυαρών ηγεμόνων
Ένα σύγχρονο σύμβολο του Μονάχου είναι η Allianz Arena, το χωρητικότητας άνω των 75.000 θεατών γήπεδο ποδοσφαίρου που φιλοξενεί την FC Bayern Munich. Οι περιηγήσεις στο στάδιο και το μουσείο προσελκύουν φίλαθλους όλο το χρόνο.

Το Olympiapark χτίστηκε για τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του 1972. Ξεχωρίζουν το Ολυμπιακό Στάδιο και ο Ολυμπιακός Πύργος ύψους 290 μ.

Η ιστορία και τα εμβληματικά μοντέλα της BMW φιλοξενούνται στο ομώνυμο μουσείο δίπλα στον ουρανοξύστη στης εταιρείας.

Το Οκτόμπερφεστ του Μονάχου, είναι το μεγαλύτερο λαϊκό φεστιβάλ στον κόσμο. Διοργανώθηκε για πρώτη φορά το 1810 για να γιορτάσει τον γάμο του βασιλιά Λουδοβίκου Α΄ και της πριγκίπισσας Τερέζας και έχει πλέον γίνει ένα από τα κορυφαία γεγονότα στο Μόναχο.

Το παραμυθένιο κάστρο Neuschwanstein αποτέλεσε την έμπνευση για το Κάστρο της Ωραίας Κοιμωμένης της Disney και είναι ένα από τα πιο δημοφιλή αξιοθέατα της Γερμανίας.

To Κάστρο Linderhof, αποτελεί μια εξίσου ενδιαφέρουσα ιδέα για εκδρομή, όπως και ο Χώρος Μνήμης Στρατοπέδου Συγκέντρωσης Νταχάου.
