[The root of Mister Choo] [Mister Choo returns to his hometown, Osaka] [Mister Choo’s history and] [nostalgic soul food] [Osaka’s most iconic foods revealed] [Mister Choo’s proud homecoming journey] [exploring Osaka’s roots] [And a heartfelt greeting to his late father] [Osaka solo trip: Two days, one night] [Osaka family home] Is your Mom not here today? We’re here… Oh! [Gate opens] – Why?
– Hello. Goodbye. [Quick entry denied] Why are you shutting the door in our face? [Too bad… Failed the early retreat] Huh? Your mom is not home? Uh… because of the kid Sa Rang’s got school and SHIHO is also somewhere else right now. She is in Tokyo. I’m here all alone. Mom’s not home right now. You came here because she’s not around, right? Exactly. That’s why your face looks so relaxed. [Devoted son Choo Sung Hoon
Home tour starts now] [Entering the first floor] Since we’re here, could you show us around? It’s got three floors, but it’s a small house. This used to be where my grandfather lived. After he passed away we’ve been using it like this. [A three-story house filled
with 35 years of choo family history] My mom’s super tidy. So clean! Really clean. Seriously… Mom does all the cleaning by herself. She’s seriously a neat freak. [Different vibe from the tokyo house] A house should be clean like this! [Candid remark] Children… usually take after their parents, right? So why are you messy when your mom’s so clean? Because it’s not my house! [Living in a rented place for 16 years] That’s amazing, there’s so much stuff here. Yeah, I guess so… Mom made all of this, you know. [First-floor Choo Sung Hoon showroom
handmade by mom] I’ve been doing judo since I was a kid. Oh, this one, this must be my very first one. [1991 national sports festival athlete ID]
When I competed in the national sports festival maybe my first year of high school? [Young high-schooler Choo Sung Hoon] This one’s from when I represented Korea and won gold at the Asian Championships. [2001 Judo Asian Championships
– 81kg class Korean National Team Gold Medal] [Ippon victory in every match] – What about the certificate next to it?
– This one is from Japan. Ranked number one in my weight class! [when he reached top rank]
That’s when I was at my peak. Number one here. [Mister Choo who topped both Korea and Japan] Which one here do you remember the most? Memorable one? Hmm… It has to be this championship belt. I won it at the K-1 Heroes MMA tournament! [Mister Choo’s Pick, Favorite Treasure:
2006 Champion Belt] Wow, that’s been 20 years already. Still, that fight video gets replayed a lot. [Choo Sung Hoon vs. Melvin Manhoef]
People really like the video of the fight. [K-1 HERO’S 2006]
People still love watching it. [Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Final]
That was the final match. [Not a YouTuber, but a true fighter] Looking back, I really worked hard. [FYI: Mister Choo is still active today] Let’s go, let’s go upstairs! Oh, and this room? Ah, this one’s for my father… [Small shrine found in Japanese temples and homes]
This is called a Butsudan. [Enshrines Buddha statues or ancestral tablets]
Usually, you’d go to the grave but for those who can’t
they keep this at home instead. [Holds the memorial tablet of his late father] In Japan, when someone passes away Yeah – Cremated.
– They’re cremated after that, these are his remains. He really worked hard all his life. He had a back injury back then. [The metal rod that supported
his spine all his life] Whenever I come to Osaka I wake up in the morning, and bow here. This is the most important place in the house. [The most precious space in the house] Now, going up to the second floor. Ah, this place… Yeah, this one’s been shown a lot. [Mister Choo’s Hit Show The Return of Superman]
We filmed a lot here with Sa Rang. This thing… Choo Sa Rang’s height
from when she was little. From 2012 to 2015. [Grandfather-engraved marks of
Sa Rang’s growth over the years] It’s already 2025. Wow, look at that! [Eye level with Mister Choo now] She must’ve grown even more, right? Why don’t you stand there for a sec? [Father and daughter height check] I’m still a little taller, right? Sa Rang is about… wait… – This much!
– And I’m here? Ahh. Still got a way to go. She’s still a kid! [Will catch up soon] Here’s our precious wedding photo, too.
Take a look. Oh, that one? Yeah, we really had those days. Those were the days. Looking at this photo Sa Rang looks exactly like both of you. [Proof of perfect fifty-fifty DNA] Do you know why your father started judo? Was your grandfather also a judoka? My grandpa did boxing. My father did judo. And my uncle did kendo. [A three-generation family of athletes] So you probably couldn’t get away
with any mischief at home. Grandpa boxed so yeah, he was scary. But even my father said
my grandpa was strict with him. And my father was really strict with me, too. [Strictness passed down generations] That’s why I always thought, if I had a son I’d raise him really tough. So I actually wanted a daughter. If Sa Rang had been a boy that would’ve been trouble
she’d have ended up doing judo! [Thank goodness you’re a girl, Sa Rang] Anyway, since today’s my day off and I’m in Osaka, I always make time to visit my father and grandfather’s graves. They’re nearby, so I never skip it. [Today’s mission:
Chuseok visit to the family graves] Before that though I’m a bit hungry. Let’s go grab something good to eat. There’s this naengmyeon place
full of memories for me. Meat, hehe… I used to work part-time there but I got fired in like two hours… Let’s go to that naengmyeon place
it’s really good. [Mister Choo’s roots tour two
former workplace naengmyeon spot] This area’s called Ikuno. [Administrative district of Osaka]
This area is called Ikuno-ku. And do many Korean residents
live here? Lots of Korean residents, a huge amount. [Little Korea within Osaka] [Since the 1920s, many jeju islanders
have settled here] [Osaka’s representative Koreatown] I wanted to show you
more around the neighborhood but everything’s closed. Not many people left now. Most are getting older so a lot of shops have shut down. There used to be so many good ones. – That’s kinda sad…
– Yeah, really. Seeing them all gone… ah. [The hometown doesn’t look the same anymore] Wow, even this place closed. – Neighbor) Akiyama-san!
– Hello. – Neighbor) I’m friends with your mom!
– Thank you, thank you. Neighbor) We’re always cheering for you! My mom’s friend! LOL. We’re meeting everyone today, haha. – Neighbor two) Choo Sung Hoon?
– Ah yes, hello. – Neighbor two) I’m cheering for you.
– Ah yes, thank you. Neighbor three) Keep fighting! Neighbor three) I’m a fan! Neighbor three) I really love your YouTube! Neighbor three) Hello! [Explosion of popularity] Wow, you’re seriously a hometown superstar. You’re like an idol here! Yeah, this is my neighborhood my turf. [Ikuno’s proudest star] [Former workplace: naengmyeon house]
It’s called Naengmyeon-gwan. [See more info in the description]
Everyone around here knows this place. So, let me show you around. They’ve got naengmyeon, bibimbap it really feels like a Korean restaurant. [A soul food hideout for Korean residents] Wait, you said you got fired
after just two hours? Two hours. I started did some dishwashing then the boss told me to go deliver. I said, “Yes, sir,” and went but I had no idea where anything was. [Hopeless with directions since childhood] So the owner had to come find me, yelling “Hey, you idiot, where the hell are you?” [Severe scolding] I said, “I’m sorry.” Then he told me to quit, fired on the spot. [Legendary two-hour employment record] Honestly, I just couldn’t do it. Yeah, that’s just something I can’t seem to fix
I’m terrible with directions. [Self-reflection] In my own neighborhood haha. I still get lost! [So consistent, our Mister Choo] [Mister Choo’s Order one: Galbitang] [Two: cold naengmyeon] Working out is tough enough so how did you manage a part-time job? We didn’t have money. Our family was poor and I couldn’t bring myself to ask my parents for cash just to eat something I wanted or buy something small. [Mister Choo matured early] So I wanted to earn it myself but yeah, got fired in two hours. [The dutiful son’s short-lived fire] What other part-time jobs did you try? I did a lot of manual labor! Carrying frozen fish boxes loading and unloading trucks all day. [Brutal loading dock work] Worked around 12 hours
and earned about 100,000 won! That was a lot back then. So what did you spend it on? Back then… Back in high school… I wanted to buy a gold necklace. – Same as now.
– LOL. [Same gold-loving man to this day] Oh, the naengmyeon’s here! [Player entering the field] Galbitang and naengmyeon. [A carb party begins] [Naengmyeon rule: Drink the broth first] Wow, that broth is amazing. [The frown of truth] You don’t put green onions in galbitang, right? Nope. [Firm] [Picky yet consistent eater] Ahh… [Bold first spoonful of rice] [Noodle and rice combo armed and ready] [A hearty spoonful] Mmm, so good. [One more bite] Wow. Gotta eat the naengmyeon too. [Time for the naengmyeon attack] [Merciless noodle slurping show] Wow, that looks seriously good. [Yep] [Half the bowl gone in one bite] [Finishing blow to the naengmyeon] Mmm. Wow, it’s delicious. [Big bite] [Smooth transition from noodles to rice] But didn’t you say you don’t eat carbs? I don’t… well, normally I don’t eat them. [Innocent] So you only eat carbs when filming YouTube? Today’s special. Couldn’t help it. [Munch] [Never-ending carb party] There’s something meaningful about carbs. [Sudden confession] Whoa. [Zzz] You can’t fall asleep here. You finished everything
in like five minutes after it came out. [Unbelievable carb focus] Not just my mind
my whole body feels at peace. [Carb amen] Alright… Let’s go! [Well-fed and ready to visit the family graves] [On the way to the cemetery]
The spot’s got a nice view. It’s up on a hill so you can see all of Osaka from there. Been a long time since I last visited. [Visiting the grave after about eight months] How did you hear the news
about your father passing? At the time, I was working in Korea. Then one day, I got a call from my uncle in Japan. He said my father suddenly… collapsed. He was playing golf when it happened a heart attack. He passed away from that. He died doing what he loved, playing golf so in a way, it’s comforting. He went while having fun. [A sudden farewell] Still, it felt strange. Even after hearing he passed, it didn’t feel real. It was like he was still around somehow. [Feels like he’s still somewhere out there] There are so many memories and videos, you know. We even appeared on TV together. And when I look at old photos sometimes I think, “Wow, is he really gone?” He still feels so vivid. That’s why… yeah. Since he’s not around anymore
it’s hard sometimes. But… [Eyes welling up with thoughts of his father] But that’s life. You can’t change it. I’ll go one day too. So I try to enjoy the time I have now. I often think, “Don’t waste [Cell phone rings]
these precious moments.” Feels like that’s my mom calling. [Perfect timing: it’s mom] Where are you, at the pool? – Yeah, I’m at the pool.
– Hold on, I’m filming YouTube right now. [Mrs. Ryu Eun Hwa / 71 years old, creator of Mister Choo]
Since Sa Rang’s at school I came out to get some exercise. [Iron stamina] You might get a sponsorship from Arena for that. Huh? [Pro YouTuber instinct: flawless product mention] You’re on your way to the grave? Yeah, I’m on my way now. – Okay, yes.
– Take care! [Call with mom ends] Your hair’s blonde again, huh? [Nagging] No. It’s fine. [Mom’s signature nag before hanging up] I really want to go on a trip with her soon. – New York.
– Yeah, New York. I think we should go soon. [Mom’s Wish: New York Trip] Honestly, she has much less time than I do. A year for her and a year for me
feel completely different. Her time’s shorter, so I want to hurry. Next year, I’m planning to make real time for it. That’s my biggest goal right now. Or something I really want to do. [Family grave site located near Osaka] I’ve never shown this in a video before. This is the first time. This is the Choo family’s resting place. Their remains are all inside here. [Mister Choo’s great-grandparents, grandparents]
The first generation, second generation… My father’s the third, I’m the fourth. [A hundred years of choo family history lie here] My father’s resting here, on this side. Since he loved golf this is Father’s. Who placed this… They put a little golf ball here for him. [Someone always stops by to visit him] [Gently tending to his father’s resting place] Looks clean. All done. [Finally saying hello again after a long time] [Bow completed] Did you say anything to him? No, actually… I was thinking of what to say but the words just… Hmm… didn’t come out. I didn’t say anything. But I think he already knows what’s in my heart. I felt like he did. So I didn’t need to say it out loud. [Time connected only through the heart] [The next day, at Mom’s house] Oh, my back. [Starting the morning with a rough first shot] Ah, good morning, everyone… Ugh, it’s morning… [Condition: Not good] At my age, waking up itself is tiring. [Morning energy of a man in his fifties] Cough cough. Ah. [Anyway, up and moving] My morning routine my Osaka routine, hehe. Let me show you. Ah, oof… my back… oh boy… [Osaka morning routine one: Grumbling] [Osaka morning routine two: Greeting Father] [Splash] [Warning detected] Whoa, that water’s cold! Still summer, after all. [Osaka morning routine three: Cold Shower] Dear subscribers [Electric toothbrush buzzing] how many times [Electric toothbrush buzzing] do you brush your teeth a day? Once? Or twice? Three times? [Always caring for your oral health] I do it twice! [Wobbly] Once in the morning, once at night. [Camera stabilized] Lately, I’ve been using this a lot. [Today’s sponsor:
Listerine Total Care Mild] If your breath smells, people avoid you. Old men like me… yeah, we smell strong! [For men who need a little help
Listerine, let’s go!] You shower every day, right? Same goes for your mouth.
You’ve got to clean it daily. [Daily oral care demonstration] [Gargle gargle] [Gargle gargle] [Serious about Listerine] [Spit spit] Oh, so refreshing! And… you know how people floss? Honestly, brushing and Listerine together is even more effective than brushing and flossing alone. [5 times more effective oral care
compared to brushing & flossing] [beyond fresh breath: fights gum disease
cavities, and plaque, six-in-one] This one’s super gentle so it’s easy to use every day. And the blue one here it’s really popular too. [Specialized for cavity care: cavity care mild] [Highly satisfied with Listerine] Oh, let’s go. Phew, let’s go eat. [Cold shower finished] Earlier I showed you the big bottle but they also have this mini version. This small one. You can use it after lunch on the go. [Sip] [Perfect combo: portable brushing
listerine on the go] When your breath is fresh you naturally feel more confident. Clean your mouth every day, all the way inside! [Mister Choo’s confident choice:
Listerine!] [Check the description
for special discount & event info] [Now heading for breakfast] When I’m in Osaka, I always go to the same café for breakfast. It’s kind of a Japanese thing you go to a coffee shop in the morning
and order what’s called a “morning set.” If you order coffee they give you toast, salad, and a few small sides. It’s an old tradition here. About 400 yen, which is 4,000 won and it’s a full set. [Mister Choo’s Osaka culture tour one
Morning set] And that place is right here. [The Choo family’s hangout: Tea Forest Sera]
[See description box for details] – Owner) Long time no see.
– Yes, hello. As you can see… [professional YouTuber-style quick menu intro] They’ve got sandwiches pancakes even something like hotteok. This one’s 530 yen, that one’s 600 yen. [Choose whatever suits your taste] No wonder you’re so cheerful this morning! Yeah, it’s great. [Smiling wide at his soul food] I’ve got a few favorites here but one special thing is “mix juice.” [A blend of fresh fruits, milk, and sugar]
It’s something you can only find in Osaka. [A drink originated in Osaka]
It’s made with apple, mandarin, banana, and milk. [Flawless flavor combo] That mix is what defines Osaka. People in Tokyo don’t even know it! -Oh, it’s a local thing!
– Yeah, only in Osaka. [Mister Choo’s Osaka culture tour two
Mix juice] [Mister Choo’s Combo:
Mix juice & hot sandwich] [Sticking to this combo for decades] Look at the bicycles over there. See that umbrella mounted on the bicycle? That, that’s Osaka culture. [Mister Choo’s Osaka culture tour three
Bicycle umbrella holder] [A new discovery spotted
throughout his two-day trip] Only Osaka ladies do that. Just them! [I learned a lot… Culture Tour
The End] Owner) Thank you for waiting. Excuse me. [Morning Set arrives / 620 yen] [500 to 700 yen depending on drink & bread combo]
Salad, egg and a sandwich, plus a drink. – If this is 6,000 won…
– That’s really cheap. [Great value] The salad here is so good! – Wait, you eat vegetables here?
– Yeah, only here. Here… only here. I think this is the first time
I’ve seen you eat salad haha. [A rare sight] I only eat them here, haha. [A hometown café
that even cures his veggie aversion] [Clean] The sandwich has egg
vegetables, ham, and tomato. This too… so good. [Morning set round two: Hot sandwich] [Gone in two bites] Super simple flavor. [The kind of taste you know too well
dangerously addictive] That’s what makes it great. [Big bite] [Crazy addictive combo] And this is mix juice, everyone. This is Osaka’s mix juice culture! [The grand finale of the morning set: Mix juice] Ah, that’s it. Delicious…! It’s the kind of taste anyone would love. Something everyone loves… [Perfect trio: Sweet, tangy, creamy] [Downing it in one go] [Clean] For 620 yen, that’s around 5,800 won. – Yeah.
– Basically the price of one coffee. Exactly! You get fresh fruit, salad, and all this… That’s unbelievable. At Starbucks, you’d pay that just for a coffee. [6,000 won worth of happiness] That’s Osaka’s café culture for you. [You should try it too!] This time… Ahem… – Hahaha.
– Why? No, that camera angle is way too close! [Destructive close-up shot] That wraps up my Osaka daily vlog! See you all again in the next video! Bye.
