LoB 14 (Lunch on Bike) Town Tour Thailands Banking Crisis & Surprise lunch

Hey, good afternoon guys and welcome back to the channel. You join me today uh Tuesday the 16th lottery day. How could I forget uh September uh it’s actually about 10 to 12. I am here Third Road right opposite uh you know the new B complex that they built which has done by the looks of it absolutely nothing. Uh it’s a shame, you know, it’s takes a lot of work and effort to put something together like that. But anyway, let me take you for a ride around the town, some different areas, and something very different for lunch. Come on. Yeah. Sil when I said third road I should have said copper soy 21 that takes some time to decise about 38° in the sun unfortunately there’s a bit of traffic quite a lot of traffic there we Yeah, I’m getting quite a lot of uh emails and that off you about where can I get an ebike or where can I rent an ebike and things like that. So, I will there is one in the description that rents out, but they’re they’re typically similar to the bike. I’m on a mountain bike that’s been converted with a motor. That’s a cadence cycle. [Music] There is a new place opened up, fairly new, uh, called Cycle Hub out at Lake Machan and they are doing uh, sales of ebikes, both the step through and mountain bike type. And, uh, they also said they were going to start renting, so maybe worth giving them a a contact. I’m sure you’re you’re you’re all following the news on the other channels, but Thailand seems to be in a bit of a mess just now. banking. They uh they already started to clamp down on non- Thai national accounts and this was a lot of it was linked to scammers. Okay. And then they decided well if the bank account was not opened on a full visa then they were going to look at them. So now there’s lots of people who have used agents in the past to open a bank account so that they could get a visa. It’s it’s chicken and egg. You wouldn’t believe it. You know you can’t have a bank account unless you’ve got a visa. And you can’t have a visa unless you’ve got a bank account. I’m talking about old visas here. So, a lot of people have had their accounts frozen and now what they’ve started doing, they’ve started targeting the Thai nationals. Uh, anyone that’s got what they’re calling a mule account linked to a scammer’s account. I understand. I do understand why they’re doing it. Just how they do it is so the the Thai government are saying please don’t panic. Nobody panic. But if you’re if you’re a Thai person, you’ve got one bank account and they decide to freeze your account. So I think there’s a lot of the Thai people have taken the money out of their bank accounts. Now, on top of that, they’re saying the strong bat, the Tai government thinks it’s linked to gold and uh they’re saying for like we’ll take a left here for gold purchases that is uh Thailand is number three in the world behind China and India. I presume China’s at the top. I’ll put I’ll put a map up and I’ll I’ll try and put soy names on as well. Uh where where we’re going. That’s it. I’ve been in this temple a few times for burials. Excuse me. Yeah. So the because of this gold they’re now the Thai government’s considering right this is the old flip-flop we’re thinking about this just causes panic and anyway they’re thinking won’t come right they are thinking uh about taxing gold sales or purchases or like you So this road here, this takes us around to Jameson’s or what was Jameson’s Nova atrium and that condo development there that Jameson’s built into there. So, I’ll give you an update on Ray, who I talked about in last week’s video. His his brother had well, I’ve had a couple of emails from his brother, but it’s essentially he goes on a holiday today for a week. So, it’s kind of rancho continue. though that sorry that was Jameson’s and it’s now got to become an Argentinian steakhouse. I should really think out my route before I come out. Sometimes traffic dictates the easiest way to go. That’s it. Make a decision. And uh yeah, so now the ties are like so they got to tax it when you buy gold or when you sell gold or nobody knows anything. You wonder if they announce things so that the the politicians can buy or sell whatever they want before any taxes come into play. I really don’t know. [Music] I think when I moved here, Thai gold, they they sell it by a weight which they call bat. And if it’s jewelry or a bar, they’re actually different weights. Slight a slight difference. 15 something g. Both of them are 15 something. So anyway, it was 19,000 B per bat. It is now 54 12,000 B. I haven’t looked today, but it’s within a couple of hundred of that. So almost uh double would be 38. Treble would be 57. So it’s getting close. Yeah. We’re up here behind big big sea marina. And I’m going to do a U-turn cuz I really don’t want to go up there any further. It’s taking us away from where we’re going for lunch. So that one I call it big C north but they call it central Marina. I wonder where are we? 11:54 temperature on my my computer. It’s hard to show you when I’m on the bike. Wonder if that’ll pick it up. I don’t know if you can see it. 41°. Uh, I’m sure it’s 35 or 36 at the most, but that is the temperature with the sun. Yeah. So, I’m seeing lots of posts from uh guys who saying that they’re the Thai wives are taking the money out the bank. If you’re worried about greenhouse gases, this is not the place to be. [Music] There’s that many uh charcoal grills here. Yeah, I know this one is third road, second road. Soy four old tail on the left and Santara Peter Hotel. Yeah, you see quite a lot of police going about and they never get well this way. It’s not like the UK where uh sorry on this road. It’s not like the UK where the police are the police. They’ll they’ll all pretty much do everything. It’s a case of they’re the police that go around the hotels and sign the tickets or whatever need to be done. I think you know where we are now. Sorry. So, uh, the police, unless they’re traffic police, they generally don’t stop you for no helmets or anything like that. I’m not bothered. Just letting this traffic be ahead of us. [Music] Yeah, it’s only 2 minutes to 12. So, so 6 is not open. A lot of the places are maybe just getting set up. That’s a pointy case. He’s actually a city official, not not police. Well, I think so. That’s what his badge just said. Notice that good bit of health and safety there. The ladder on the back of the truck. I had a look inside. There wasn’t anything at the bottom. The ladder stop it from slipping. It wasn’t against an edge or anything like that. [Music] Yeah, I don’t I don’t really follow the entire uh political scene. [Music] There’s no point in commenting on that one being rubbish or that one. We’ll just see. Things are not working out. They still go through the red lights. I don’t care. That’s the problem. If you’re in the queue, you you have just got to go. [Music] Yeah. So Ray, I was telling you, he uh he managed to uh pay his rent and the the agents try to work with him. They know that he’s poorly and he needs to get back to the UK and his brother’s in agreement and so is he. Uh so the agents trying to help where they can. But the brother goes on holiday for a week. So there’s nothing going to happen that way until he until he gets money to get his passport back. [Music] So, you know, there have been a lot of videos going up about uh new condos being built and how much they’re costing and some of the prices are pretty high, right? And I I was like, well, how’s that going to affect the rental market? You know, and I used the old Google and it it it recommended a return of 1%. It was something like that. I’ll put it on the screen. I don’t think in PA was anywhere near 1%. Nowhere near it. And it did say, look, it’s only a guideline. It might be8 and it might go as high as 1.2. It dare 5 maybe 6 with these uh big buildings coming up that cost a lot. I think that’s a sorry I want to go down there. I’ll just go up a bit. Yes, it was the the street sign was knocked down. [Music] Yeah. So, I just I just don’t know if buying units to rent them out here is is is good money. I know the running costs here are a lot lot less. You know, maintenance tends to cost you less, that type of thing. But does it all add up? Anyway, we are going for lunch here. This is soy 9 of the dare clang and we are going here to taco taco opens at 12 shuts there’s a sign there shuts at 9:30 Monday to Saturday every Tuesday which is today tacos 60 bat every Thursday margaritas buy one get one let’s go inside give it a go yeah so here we are inside Taco Taco it’s not a big place And as you can see, not easy to find. So you’ve got to come into Soy 9. You’ll be able to look on the map and see the owner here, Rita. She’s been the owner for the last 2 years. Hello, Rita. You okay? Crap. And uh yeah, Thursday you do uh Margarita Day. Uh Thursday. Thursday. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Buy one get one. So, let me show you what we’re getting. Yeah. So, I’ll put today’s special menu up there on the right. And I am having the first one, the second one, the third one, and the last one. Uh, so four uh soft tacos. They do soft or hard. Uh, I’ll put the rest of the menu up there now cuz yeah, I mean, they’re open till 9:30 at night. They’ve got a good a good selection. And in Pa there isn’t that many Mexican places. So pop along, have a look. So that’s my food just being delivered. And as I said, I am having pork carnitas. Porkas. The next one. This one is the pil. This one the pilo cho at this end. Then bishort ri at that end. Okay. Oh, looks good, eh? Okay. And which one you said is a bit spicy? A little bit. A little bit. This one. Okay. So, we’ll see how I get on there. I don’t know. Should I just have the spicy one and get it out of the way or should I save it till the end? Let’s start off with pork the boneless short rib beef. So Rita has been the owner here two years. I think uh the way she was talking was the old owner the husband passed away and uh she bought the business from it. Just full of very very tender beef. Very very good though. I just know sauce. Oh no, they’re spicy. Yeah. Yeah. No, I don’t. She’s trying to get me on the Sriracha hot sauce. And you know, they’re not Mexican hot sauces. I should have done this before I started. So, two of them come with cheese on top. Two of them don’t. One of them is pork, one’s a peel, and I forget which one. Okay. So it’s it’s one of these two. Got good name. Short term. Let me show you inside once I get the the drips to stop. There we go. Very very very tender. I said to Rita, she was asked, “Do you speak Thai?” And I’m like, “No.” And she says, “Oh, my English is very small.” Obviously, our cooking’s up to scratch. I must admit, I haven’t been here for a long time. Don’t know why, but there’s not a lot of She doesn’t do a lot of advertising. And uh I think like around this area here, it’s very very popular, but getting the word out that Yeah, you can come in and have 20 240 B for four tackles. It’s about £550. I watched a a guy in London and he was like, “Oh, we’ll find a taco. It’s it’s under under £3. Sorry, it’s £3 pound50 for one. That’s a bargain. Four £550. And I know this isn’t London, but the food is good. I have I have saved the spicy one at the end. Yeah, I think I like them with the cheese on top. They’re less healthy. You okay? Yes. All right. I forget which one, but they were both good. This is a peel. I thought so. Yeah, that one was a short rib. Yeah, short. And this one’s a spicy one. Yeah, I’m not very good with spicy. So, I’m on the last one here. This is the chita one. And she said it’s just a little bit spicy. But you know what ties are like when they say a little bit spicy. And I’ve noticed there’s orders starting to go out the door. So as we’re at most places in town, they do grab [Music] the song that just came on. Suicidal. And I was just about to say this isn’t too. It is. Yeah, I can handle it. off camera to the right. Guacamole sauce and a red sauce that looks better. No rice to save me today. That was actually very very good. Four is enough. Maybe five, but I’m being good. Four. Four is enough. Really, really tasty. Uh, try what what would be my favorite. They were all good to be honest with you. Probably. Okay. The Mexican chorizo. Probably my least favorite, but only cuz I’m not a spicy, you know. For most of you, you’d probably say that was your favorite one. Yeah, the pibil was the second one. Very, very good. And the carnitas, lovely pork. Excellent. So, taco taco clang. So, nine. It’s about 50 m in on the right hand side. You’ll see it. Enjoy. We’ll see you guys next time when I’m out in the bike. Why Film on a Bicycle

Traditional video makers tend to walk, which unless great care is taken, produces a bounce in the video footage. I find filming on a motorbike can be too fast, not allowing you to take in the scenery. The bicycle allows me to interact with people whilst providing smooth footage. If you find it is still too fast, then you can slow the video speed down to half speed, which will still be 30 frames per second.

Why doesn’t the footage look clear

Sometimes I make an error when shooting the video (but very rarely) The most common cause is that your internet connection on YT has set the resolution to below 4K, so check your settings.

Camera Equipment

Since starting the channel I have used my trusty DJI Osmo Pocket 2 (Creator combo)
The Combo comes with a Bluetooth microphone which has given great performance, even when riding at speed. I film at 4K & 60 frames per second, my light and ISO settings are on Auto. The Camera is strapped to my left wrist (so it might appear that I am close to things on the left). I control the Camera head via an application on my phone (Mimo), using my right hand Thumb. Action cameras to date, have smaller light sensors and are not competitive at present for low light filming.
