日本を自転車で横断するためにどれだけ食べるか!(たくさん)

This is everything I eat in a day to cycle across Japan. Today, we’ve got a pretty scenic journey through the Alps with about 52 kilometers from Takyama to Kiso. So, to start the day, I decided to hit the hotel breakfast buffet. They had an assortment of both Western and local items, so I was able to enjoy both French toast, the love of my life, and a handsome little bowl of Japanese noodles. That’s what I’m talking about. I did also get seconds to make sure my body’s French toast and yogurt stores were topped up, but I didn’t want to go too crazy because this town also had a convenience store that I wanted to try out. It’s called Daily Yamazaki, and it’s supposed to have some pretty electric baked goods. So, in addition to the hydration supply for the day, I also picked up some melon pan, a sweet roll, and some shiopan for the road. Now, today’s ride is short, but it’s definitely not a cakewalk. There were both anime antagonists and real life antagonists on the prowl. And it was all pretty fairly remote riding that packed a bunch of climbing through tiny mountain villages. But eventually I spotted a small rest stop and had to check in with the local ice cream dealer to get my fix. She got me right with a Sakura flavored cone and told me that the remainder of my ride would pack a bunch more long tunnels, then a steep climb into the Kaidakogan Highlands before I was home free. Today’s the first day that my destination isn’t a proper town, but instead just a small mountain cabin in the middle of nowhere. When I arrived, this place was run by a super kind couple that gave me a tour of the main house, showed me the cabin I’d be staying in tonight, and even had a hot bath ready to go for me. Then, this is where it started popping off. After my sesh, they called me over to come and eat some dinner. And considering the remoteness of the location, I wasn’t expecting anything crazy. So, when I sat down to a Michelin level tasting of a ton of traditional Japanese dishes, I was surprised to say the least. And guys, this stuff was nice. We’re talking about fresh river fish, hot simmering Wagyu, freshly prepared local vegetables, and they kept bringing out more. This was the Hansel and Gretle experience bar for bar. But instead of executing me and turning me into a pie, they brought out some yaki giri, a huge assortment of fresh tempura, and a nice platter of soba. Surely that’s got to be it, right? Wrong. For dessert, they brought out some ever so slightly sweet homemade Earl Grey ice cream and creme brulee. Wow. I’m placing this meal in S tier.

This is everything I eat in a day to cycle across Japan. Today’s route was from Takayama to just outside of Kiso!
