[広島 旅行]尾道からレンタサイクルで楽しむ!瀬戸内海のカーブから見える景色が綺麗
Hello everyone! This time, I went to Mukojima Island in Onomichi City. I rented a bicycle and cycled around the island. There were so many beautiful places, I was able to enjoy the scenery around the island while cycling. This is the first island you come across when riding the Shimanami Kaido from Onomichi on Honshu. I’d like to introduce this beautiful island to you today. Thank you for your support. We’ll take a ferry from Onomichi to Mukaishima. Mukaishima is also part of Onomichi. But to avoid confusion, I’ll refer to the Honshu side as Onomichi and the island side as Mukaishima in this video. The ferry fare for passengers and bicycles was 110 yen. The boat ride takes about five minutes. However, the surrounding scenery is so beautiful that it feels like the ride is only about three seconds, especially when you’re enjoying the scenery. This blue line is the road known as the Mukojima Loop Line. This time, I mainly took the loop line and stopped at various places. Bicycling along the Shimanami Kaido offers some truly beautiful scenery. However, this time I decided to focus solely on Mukojima. My first stop on Mukojima was Goto Kosenjo. The ramune I drank inside the traditional-looking spring was delicious. Refreshed by the ramune, I headed to Omoto Shrine. However, I ended up going straight when I should have turned and ended up taking the wrong turn. Getting lost in this heat was quite a blow. I went back a little, turned down the road, and then turned in again, and the hill continued. I rented an electric-assist bicycle, so the hill was relatively easy. From Omoto Shrine, you can see the Shin-Onomichi Bridge. I parked my bike in what looked like a parking lot and walked up the hill to the main hall. This slope was quite challenging. One of the reasons I came to this shrine this time was to pray. But when I went around to the back of the shrine from the stairs next to this rock, I found my real reason for going there. Look at this beautiful view! From this spot, you can enjoy the view in the opposite direction from Senkoji Temple, and enjoy the Onomichi Waterway just as you would see Senkoji Temple. It’s amazing. From here, you can really see just how steep the Honshu side of Onomichi is. Senkoji Temple is halfway up the mountain you can see now, and the peak of the observation deck is near the top. Also, while looking at this waterway, I thought, this building on the right is City Hall. But City Hall looked beautiful. I was able to enjoy a beautiful view. When I say long ago, I mean about three years ago. But I had a thought when I went to Hachijojima. When you go to an island, it’s best to wear long sleeves and long pants. I forgot that important thing this time. I went to the spot where I could get a beautiful view of Senkoji Temple wearing short sleeves and shorts. However, the grass was thick and there were a lot of bugs, so it was a bit difficult. …I don’t say a bit, it was quite difficult. And then, while riding this circular line, another tragedy occurred. I dropped my smartphone here. I use a smartphone stand that attaches to the pipe on my bicycle saddle. Perhaps it was because the temperature had made it a little hot and soft, but I dropped my smartphone. I was devastated. Let’s look at the beautiful scenery of Onomichi and forget about all the troubles. I often think this while cycling on the Mukojima Loop Line. The view from the curves is so beautiful. The view from the curves is so beautiful I wonder how many of Japan’s most beautiful curves there are. I’m not particularly interested in cycling. But cycling on Mukojima is so much fun. Just as I was thinking that, my phone fell for the second time. Not only was the ocean beautiful from here, but there were also islands all around. There was also an island in the distance, and a bridge, though I can’t see it now. All of these things were visible in a complex way, and the view from the curve was beautiful. I thought this was a truly wonderful island. Renting an electric assist bicycle was 4,000 yen a day. Also, the fare to get to the island, which is 110 yen, is actually 220 yen round trip. But I thought it was very reasonable considering you can enjoy so much scenery for that price. Starting from Onomichi on the Shimanami Kaido, the first island you’ll see is Mukaishima, and the next island is Innoshima. From Mukaishima, you can see Innoshima and the Innoshima Bridge from the top of the mountain. I was thinking that the scenery, the ocean, and the gentle slopes would all be serene. But the slope of the hill was incredible. It was a pretty tough climb. And it was a very sunny day, so I got really sunburned. I could feel the burning pain. It’s an electric-assist bike. It does provide some assistance, but it’s still pretty tough. It was really hot, I was sunburned, and the hill, it was really steep. It was a pretty tough situation for me, climbing up and down Mt. Senkoji first thing in the morning. I wonder if what I’ll see at the end of such a difficult climb is really beautiful. I don’t think it’s a slope you should climb by bicycle anyway. But I managed to reach the top. I had to push my bike part of the way up, but what a beautiful view! I’m so glad I made it this far. This is the observation deck at the summit of Mt. Takami. It took about 40 minutes from the Orchid Center sign. Apparently, Mt. Takami’s name comes from the fact that the Murakami Navy’s watchtower was located here. This antenna appears to be transmitting FM radio. The view, which can only be seen from this observation deck, is truly beautiful. Innoshima Island is visible in the distance, and the bridge it spans is the Innoshima Bridge. I had to brake the whole time going downhill. The reason is that the bike I rented was an electric-assisted bike, not a sports bike designed for mountain climbing. If I got too fast, the brakes wouldn’t work and I could have had a serious accident, so I tried to keep my speed down. After descending the mountain, I’ll head toward Innoshima Bridge, looking at the torii gate that looks as if it’s standing on the water. What’s the name of this torii gate? It looks like a torii gate on the surface of the sea. The bridge you see at the end of this beautiful curve is the Innoshima Bridge. I’m currently on Mukojima Island. So, what you see beyond the bridge is Innoshima Island. When cycling along the Shimanami Kaido, you can cross the bridge from Innoshima Bridge to Imabari by bicycle. However, the Shin-Onomichi Bridge, the bridge connecting Honshu to Mukaishima, does not have a sidewalk for cycling, so you cannot cross it. The older road, the Onomichi Bridge (not the Shin-Onomichi Bridge), does have a sidewalk. It’s narrow, so some people suggest taking a ferry to Mukaishima and enjoying the scenery from there. After enjoying the beautiful bridges and curves, there’s a rest area where cyclists can take a break. I’ll hydrate and take a short rest here. It was very helpful to find a rest area with a vending machine. I guess that’s because it’s in the south of the island on the map. There were no vending machines or convenience stores along the road. I didn’t bring any water with me, so this felt like an oasis. While driving along the loop line, I came across a beautiful red bridge. This bridge is called Mukaishima Ohashi Bridge, and it connects to the neighboring island of Iwakojima. I think it’s an incredibly beautiful bridge. And I didn’t know how to pronounce Iwako Island at first, so I just kept calling it Iwako Island. It’s written with the “ko” character for “child.” Apparently, it’s pronounced “shi.” I actually wanted to go to Iwako Island, too. But by this point, my legs were so sore that they were shaking, and I knew I’d reached my limit… I gave up, thinking I’d get hurt if I continued. So, my cycling trip to Mukoujima ends here, and I head back to Onomichi. I’ll make one last stop before boarding the ferry. Right near the ferry terminal is Onomichi Mukoujima Itsukushima Shrine. I didn’t look into the details, but I thought Itsukushima Shrine might be part of the same family as the Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima in Hiroshima, so I paid a visit to express my gratitude for having enjoyed Mukoujima this time. It was a tough ride, with sunburn and sore legs. But I’m so glad I got to see that beautiful scenery. I’m back in Onomichi. Maybe I wasn’t very hungry this time, or maybe the heat was too much, but I didn’t eat lunch on Mukojima. Apparently, Onomichi is famous for Onomichi ramen. But, well, it’s soy sauce ramen. I went in thinking it was a local specialty, so I might as well try it. And I was surprised. It was so delicious. It was so good that it was worth going to Onomichi just to eat this ramen. I’ve traveled to many places, but Hakodate was the only place I’d ever come back to for ramen. But I think I’ll definitely be returning to Onomichi for the ramen. And I stayed the night before. Instead of staying two nights in Onomichi, I somehow booked a hotel in Mihara. I honestly don’t know why I chose Mihara, but I think I booked a hotel in the wrong location. But, since I’d already booked it, I had no choice but to move on. It takes about 20 minutes by train from Onomichi Station to Mihara Station. Just be aware that there are very few trains. For dinner, I had seafood. Apparently, octopus is famous. Also, I had some nigiri sushi. It was delicious, too. So, I’ve decided that coming to Mihara might not have been a mistake after all. This time, I rented an electric assist bicycle in Onomichi, took the ferry to Mukaishima, and enjoyed cycling around the island. Cycling while enjoying the beautiful scenery was wonderful. There were some very steep slopes, though. Also, the Onomichi ramen was delicious. And that’s it for today’s video. Thank you for watching. If you’re inspired to go to Onomichi and cycle to Mukaishima, please leave a comment, like, and subscribe.
