[Music] know what these might be. Well, hello everybody. Little cheeky few days we had here. Isn’t that right, Gilly? Yeah, there she is sitting out chairs that up. So, where we are is a lovely little site at Pickering. Um, we’ve got our little pitch right next to that little trailer. G just setting the Jazz up. We’ve had a little wonder of flickering today and it’s a lovely town but we’ll take you with us when we go back in probably tomorrow or Monday. So we’re here um Saturday night which here Sunday and Monday um just a little small site seven little seven pitch site and you’ve got you’ve got your grass pitches around there and you’ve got your gravel pitches across here and where you just set up just over there that’s gi your chemical waste down here you got keep your dogs on the leaves all times it is just a small place so Uh you’ve got your chemical waste round here. And you’ve also got your bins, a little wash place there, and got your broken glass, everything there. If you want to bring a little fire, you can as long as you buy the stuff off the guy there, the logs, which is fair enough. I mean, it’s only a little site. But what a lovely little site it is. And this is the river. Is it Riverside Gill? Lakeside. Lakeside. Oh, sorry. Close. Lakeside um site at Pickering. And I’ll just show you. He’ll show you the lad’s thing. So, that’s uh who owns it and that’s who we get in touch with. And if you can adults only, if you can just phone the lad rather than boot it through, pitch up or anything cuz I think it’ll doesn’t cost them so much then. Uh but a crack little site and it’s 5 10 minutes walking to pick one. Yeah. Which we will take you when we head back in maybe tomorrow on Monday. But as I see her, lovely little site. I’ll find out exactly how much it was off Gil and she’ll let you know. 30 a night. 30 a night. 30 a night. But we’ve booted through pitch up. Right. 30 a night. That was through pitch up. It might be a little bit cheap if you booting us through the guy. That’s 30 a night and that’s including electric um water everything. So really nice. There’s no toilets or showers though. Yes. I should have said you got to be Celsius fishing. No toilets and showers and that uh real quiet one. Lovely. So, as I say, we’ll take you down when we’re heading down there back into Pickering. Well, to next day, I’m out for a little wander. We’re going to take you with us on a little wander into Pickering. I just thought I’d stick the camera on here while we’re walking out and show you the actual site itself again. Um that’s G there. Very far day out. Yeah, ready for a day out. Weather doesn’t know what it’s going to do. No weather, but so that’s we’re just stuck in that corner. Lovely little pitch there as well. Loads of space. Um I think it’s seven pitches all together on the side. So you got your grass pitches over there and the internet seems to be a little bit better further down the field bit there where the grass is. But um crap little side. We’re both on Vodafone as well, aren’t we? So whether it’s Yeah, we’re getting 4G in a bar or two, aren’t we? Um, it’s just a gator to come in. Are you at all? Nice little sight. Nice and quiet. It really isn’t. You I mean, there is road noise in a little bit of road noise. It’s not too bad. There’s a little bit of road noise. We’re looking through there. There’s another field or two there, but it looks like work in progress. Maybe they’re going to extend it out there. There’s a lovely smell of pine. I don’t know if you can smell it. Can you? It’s a pine trees there, I think. But that’s the site anyway. So, we’re going to have a wonder to pick her in now. So just outside the site there, that’s the entrance to Le side there. Campsite. Yeah, girl was just having a little look down there. It’s just a country lane, is it? It’s just a country lane, I suppose. If you’ve got a dog and you want to take the dog for a walk, I don’t know what where else. It might be a nice walk with a dog. So you got the main road here. 26 mile to the left to throw. Um but it’s about uh just I think where Paul’s pointing there up that road as well. Um the owner said you can get a bus. Oh yeah. So if you want to get a bus to Scarra, he said if you get if you walk around there just a little way, you can get on the bus rather than walking into Pickering where sometimes obviously the excuse me run. Um so if you if you get on there, you’ve got more chance of getting a seat rather than walking in. Sure. It can get quite quite busy. We think there’s a motor show or something on here somewhere near Pickering, but I don’t think we’ll be going to it. There’s an old Morris Miner there. Yeah. Just going to get across this road. Pickering water, I’m sure, isn’t it? Yes. 10 a night. 10 a night. It’s the showfield or something line. Yeah, I think so. But I don’t know where that is. Anyway, let’s crack on. Walk down to pick. I think it’s about 10-minute walk. Yeah. About that. Yeah. Part of the way down you got the sun in which we went in. in for the right off we go. If you want a little break on the way down to pick one um as you’re walking along, you come to the sun in here. It’s a nice little pub, wasn’t it? Popped in yesterday or a lovely beer garden in the lovely beer garden. Big beer garden out the black. Plenty of room, wasn’t it? And they’ve got I think they had six guests on or something, wasn’t it? Mhm. Um quite about 10 minutes here. Not sure about the food. We haven’t had any food or anything in there. But I don’t actually know whether they do food. They weren’t when we walking bottle might pop in anyway. I might We’ll have a look. But all right. Nice little back. Oh, we don’t serve food. Oh, they don’t serve food. So, I’ll clean that one up. Anyway, the sun and you can get a free bottle of beer garden, isn’t it? Yeah, beer garden just can. Nice little pool if you need to rest your legs and have a beer on the way or on the way back. So this is where we came in yesterday. Um so we turned left just off the left just after the sun around there and there’s a air there’s a fish and chip shop there. It was just shutting yesterday, wasn’t it? Yeah. Obviously they open on a dinner night. Isn’t that lovely? So you got your So Monday to Thursday half 11 till half 1 then half 4 to half 7 Friday Saturday half 11 till half one and half 4 till 8. It’s actually open on a Sunday half 7. Oh well. Uh yeah might get a bag of chips to go. Yeah we said that yesterday but then we were heading back before. There she is behind us. I’m not. So like yesterday we came walking up here and as we go down here you come down the stream on the left hand side there’s a little artisan market and then also inside the I don’t know it’s like a community center wasn’t it? Yeah the artisan market is on the last Saturday of the month which is why it was on yesterday 26th of July. Yeah on a Saturday. So last Saturday of the month and they were selling uh well lots really candles honey. You got a little candle uh and a little like telight thing, didn’t you? Yeah, it was a it was homemade. It was It’s what you put like a tea light. You can show later on the camera. Yeah, sure. It’s a shepherd’s hut that I got. Yes, the building just ahead there, which we I think it was it was like a community center inside. Um can I just say about the candle at Paul Bers in the Shepherd’s Hut? I never heard the last of it cost. 15 quid a candle and he spent spent £18 on this shepherd’s foot. So literally all day that’s all he said. I can’t believe I’m turn you off. So the artan market was in there but I was on a community center memorial hall. Yeah. Um but it’s not very big inside. It’s just like a big hall wasn’t it with uh all the stalls set out and then that’s called memorial hall. That’s good that you could be right. It’s empty there now. Yeah. Um but when we came yesterday um across the other side of here which is the the museum be a museum. Be a museum. We may pop along tomorrow if we’ve got time go in. Yeah, haven’t we? Down there. There’s another load of stalls uh with the market on as well. And that’s the Beck Museum just across there. Is it a Yeah, I think we should have a look in there tomorrow. Don’t looks like it’s closed today. Yeah, we might have a look tomorrow. We’ll see. But this where we are now was absolutely heaven yesterday on Saturday. This there’s a pub here right on the little stream which you can just see there yesterday. Yeah. Um so you got the stream here and that’s the back of the memorial hall there. Little stream there. There’s not much water at the moment is the time of year. Is it time for a drink or is it too early? Isn’t the plunky there? Is it time for a drink or I wouldn’t have a drink yet? Oh, you you took a lot of persuading. We’ll in here and try it. You know why? Because it was too busy yesterday. I couldn’t go in. So, we’ll try. And I’ll pay cuz I cannot have you crying like yesterday. I need a hanky for me eyes. I need a hanky for me eyes. Oh, did I have to? You went on about it yesterday. Turn your look every time she drags us in. Cheers. Big ears. Cheers. Muscle snack. on here. So, got the stream down. That’s a little bridge we just come over. Nice little stream that goes through the middle of the town. Nice pool was here. We couldn’t get in here yesterday. It was absolutely crammed, wasn’t it? People stand sitting all along this wall and everywhere yesterday. But we’re going to enjoy our beer now. So little pub if you want to gone somewhere for a drink. The Rosian free house. Really nice sitting outside. Mine just sit out here alongside the little stream. Gorgeous. Yeah. just sort of show you another little bit about there. But we’ll be uh we’ll be walking further on and going to picking in a second. Well, once Gail’s finished, I drink, you know, I know my want to pause too. Very nice. Lovely place. Well, when pork’s been pork pork when pork when pork’s been when pork’s been freezing beer, he went and got a bag of crisps and a pork. I do love pork scratchings. You know, he loves his pork and he thinks he’s a connoisseur with pork. I am a connoisseur of pork scratch. So, what I’ve persuaded him to do cuz he got a bag yesterday which he didn’t eat. He brought them back from a different ping pig room. We’re going to over the next few weeks we’re going to collect a few different bags of pork scratchings and we’re going to do a review on pork scratchings and Paul will give his honest honest review. He’s got no teeth so he has to suck them to death which is quite funny but it’ll be funny Paul’s honest review. So that’s what we’ll do. We’ll get a load of PS and then we’ll do a video a vlog on pork scratches and I’ll give my honest review. We’ll see where we got them from. Yeah. I’ll give my honest review of what pork scratchings are like and which ones I think’s the best. Yeah. Sounds good to me. It’s only cuz he likes pork scratchings and I think how many bags of pork scratchings can I eat? And you said I’m going to suck them to death. Oh, you do. So that’s So that’s what we’re going to do. Right. So once we’ve got enough pants, we’re going to do a little vlog on pork scratchings because I am a connoisseur. Right. We were just walking out of the pub. Had a lovely pint. Oh, Bridge Street that this must be historic. Oh, well, of course you got El Bridge, haven’t you? We just come across, right? Um, and just straight opposite the main high street. Um, that was open yesterday, but it’s just like uh gifts and stuff. I think that way you’ve got the steam railway. I think we looked at that yesterday, but I think we might do that tomorrow, might we? We’ll have a look out tomorrow. This is the main high street. We’re going to have a walk up here. Again, this yesterday was absolutely even, wasn’t it? We’ll just have a look up here cuz there’s something about uh an old bike, you know, on the air wall next to the um the stream. You mean to say they’ve got a post about you, Paul? Well, it’s no about the old trout, but I’m a rainbow one. This thing here. See this here? Yeah. Oh, what is it here? Sculpted pike and ring was commissioned in 1970 to be placed on Eastgate Fisheries. The sculpture was Stanley Charles of G Charles and Sun Limited. Following the demolition of the eastgate fisheries, the sculpture was rescued and installed here by Pintown Community Interest Company. Yeah. So the pike and the ring when you look further down there, legend has it that pick was founded by King Perodudius of York in 270 BC. The king, it is said, lost a ring in a nearby river. Accused a girl of stealing the ring, but the ring was rediscovered by the king’s coug in the stomach of a pike. M. So he must have listened in her apologize. Oh, he actually looked for the girl to apologize as that night. Oh, but he then he fell in love with her and and married her and that was it. Naming her the place Pike Ring. He was skinned after that. Naming Naming the place Pike Ring. What do you mean you were skinned? He was skinned after him. Oh yeah. Paul’s getting at the fact that he bought us a candle and began on a boat together. So what’s your high street? So I’m going to cross over the road and we’ll come back here. Are you just surprised at home when you look at the duck? Surprised at home we have to charity shop. Mhm. Yeah. Surprised how many shops is open on a Sunday? Yeah, we expected it yesterday when we come it was busy but I mean there’s one that electrical one but there actually even the likes of C. Is that where you got the We got the pies and yesterday if you like sausage roll steak and we got the sausage rolls yesterday. Oh, I brought a piece as well. Large pies but not very large. Yeah. Well, to be fair, they filled us. Well, and to filled Paul up there must be You were filled up yesterday. Didn’t eat much chocolate when we got back last night. We didn’t get in the beer horse in yesterday. No, I didn’t want to walk in there yesterday. It was busy though, wasn’t it? Really busy. You’ve got the white swan here. We didn’t go in that one either. No, we went the black swan. I think it was around the corner. Oh, we went down there. There wasn’t much down there, was there? Little sweet shop down the bottom. Little sweet shop. Sweet Temptations. Little sweet shop down the bottom. your bakers mind. I mean, there’s another baker’s there. There’s that B we went in. There’s that one there and then there’s Coupins on the other side. Church up the top of here as well, haven’t we? Oh, we’re hidden. We went in the hidden market in there, but there wasn’t a great lot in there really. There was a few little like um the smelly in stick things and all that, wasn’t there? What’s that behive? Just little little chest of draws. You’d never get your butchy smuggles in there. I might be all right, but I don’t think you’ll get very far with them once. We big blue pants. I am very blue on pants. There’s a club there. Dan off the Travel Trolls TV would enjoy that one. That place which one? Why? Cuz it got John Smith. Oh, John Smith for £420. So if you do watch us Dan, think on you can get in there and get yourself a pint of John Smith. Tell that mazy to buy you one. Supposed to be a nice church. this behind there, isn’t it? Yeah, I’ve just said the steeple there. I’ve just the steeple. We’re just going to walk a bit further up, I think. Should we go up them steps to the church? Should we have a look into there? Yeah, the deer. Let’s carry on. See them gill. Oh, there’s a like a walking. Oh, there’s some more. Look. Aren’t them lovely? Mhm. Is it Harry Potter? I don’t know. You see them on the um post boxes, but they’re on the little Don’t know what you would call them. Stumps. Right. We’re going up there. On the church. The steps going to church. W some old stones there. Look. Look. Mhm. They’re old, aren’t they? Yeah. Really old. What age was that one? You can’t really see. Is that Is that 1382 or 1882? Can’t really see. I don’t know whether you can make it out on there, but really won’t. 1855. You can make that one out. See? This one. Next one. 1855. Oh, yes. That’s quite clear that one, isn’t it? It’s quite clear for being so old, isn’t it? Yeah. Oh, I can smell fish and chips. I don’t think it’s at the the church, but must be a fish up somewhere. Some foil. No, it’s second of August. I’m not going cuz it’s the sun dear and they might have just had a church service. I’m going to have a look. Well, here I’ll let you take the camera. There’s Paul going to have a look. Could have took the camera, couldn’t he? Really? Can you I don’t know whether you can make him out like pointing up. I’m always wary of it going into church with a camera down there. Lovely. Really nice out. Isn’t that mate? Mhm. I’m whispering now. Reminds us of the Horton church at all. St. Michael is that just a little one, isn’t it? A small church. Well, that’s lovely. Now, I wonder Oh, that’s where the bells are. Look. Look at these. Wow. You make them pictures. Wondered what this door was here, but it looks behind the door. If you can look. I don’t know if you can make out the wires. That must be where the door is not your suit of vestry. That must be where the bells p. I don’t know how you got a curtain shut. I trust you. I think it is cuz don’t know whe Yeah, I would love to ring the bell. What about the old font that Okay. wall. That is really old, isn’t it? And the good stones. Look. And you got yourself a drink. It’s a tractor for a P. Look, I know. Nice little one. Got the really old grave stones. Wonder what edge they’re from. It’s a lovely church. Really nice. These these drones are not about it properly. I often wonder like how like how long they have been on there like how long they’ve been painted on whether to know the history of things like that. Look it up on Google. Is that one on there? Does he give you enough like information? You think I can go up on the older? It must have been there for for years. Can I go up there? I don’t know. in memory of a beta. I wonder what’s down there. like this probably some some kind of a hole of drain. Paul’s about to make his sermon. I dread to think what his sermon would be about. You’ve got your mates sitting next to you, so you taught me before. candles behind you. Red candle. That could be me and you, couldn’t it? Lovely. This is classes where we are now. I think this is a booklift chapel open for private prayer. That’s right. What’s it doing? Will you watch it? What you praying for? Few n bones gone up a little bit off yesterday. God. All jokes aside though, honestly, this is lovely. Look at the chandelier. Oh, there bells. Look. What are you remembering about? Oh, well that throws me theory out with them doors cuz there’s nobody in his blanch. He’s gone. Yeah, but the the ropes is not moving. Just a record. How How does he uh Where’s his keyboard? He’s got his foot pedals. Where’s his keyboard? behind there. Locked in there. Look at that. Do you think that’s locked away? Yeah. Look, there’s a key. Oh, right. Lock key. So, they must open that to reveal that. Reminds of when I used to go to Sunday school years ago. They used to have this. But the place has got really old. They used to have a lovely organ. only really small um Sunday. So, but they had that I it used to amaze me. I was probably only about five, but like the noise that comes out of there. Yes. Come on then. Let’s come. I hope you enjoyed that little bit of a walk around. That was all right. I I like the churches. I do like the stained glass window, but only small stained glass windows. There’s nothing big like that one’s just plain. Yep. Oh, I wonder if we can light the candle. Can you light the candle or not? Ah, you just put your money in the box there. How do you Oh, yeah. You can light a candle. So, girls, just lighting a little candle for dad for Michael. How would you me dad? And we’re going to write on a little card there. Just a little prayer thing. And put it in the box. Oh, it’s lovely, isn’t it? Yeah. It’s nice. You can put a little brown on there. Very nice. That we’ll just turn you off for the moment while we’re doing this. When you look at this um what do you call it? Tombstone like big tomb. I don’t know. Like it’s actually quite clear. Really clear. Now, I know the camera probably doesn’t pick things up, but sometimes when you look at old tombstones, like when you look at this one here, you just cannot make out a lot of the details. But this one, when you think it’s from 1842, 1873, even 1798, I mean, maybe this was renewed when the last person was put in, but even so, the 1800s, that’s quite quite good. Um, I love that type of like tombstone. Commemorative war graves. I don’t know whether they’re around here or whether that’s looks like there’s some on the walls here. Don’t know what these ones are. Captain Aan Duncan 2014. I wonder if these are all like um I don’t know. I was going to say like people that’s been in I think if you you know like if you come here dawn you to get a stone on. Oh yeah. But I think but like Yeah. It’s a good idea. I think I know me sons is in like a um it’s in the churchyard obviously. His remains is in there in as it when he was cremated. So we’ve got somewhere where we can go and pay respects which is a good thing. Everybody wants to go to a grave, but it’s nice to have it there to come back to, I suppose. So, these ones on the wall, maybe that’s the same. Maybe is there. And the cremated maybe theirs has been put there and then put into into the wall in the stone. quite impressive stones like really big one. That one 1878 again quite readable quite I think this is the the war graves of the war graves but a lot Loads up there. Paul’s just gone walking off without us. But quite sad really cuz it doesn’t look like although I suppose they’re kept to a point. Lot of weeds around them. Sun’s falling down. Like look at those. Like in the day there would have been quite 1900 ones here. There’s a few 1800s I think. I’m saying these ones here. I know like some of them have the things has dropped off but they would have been quite magnificent in the days when they were done like that stone yesterday on them and that’s brilliant. I think some of them got like metal railings 1887. Yeah. Uhhuh. But I think a lot of these is early 1900s. These are few. That one there’s got it metal railings round. It’s just you think now. But if you think maybe there’s nobody left in the family to look after them, you know what I mean? 1922. I know. Well, that’s what I say about like it’s people’s choice, isn’t it? Some prefer to be buried. Some prefer to be cremated. I said about how Michael obviously he was cremated and he’s in the grounds. It’s like a a memorial garden, but it’s not something it’s it’s kept up by the church because it is just a little bit of a garden. They’ve got the memorial stone with his name on, but it’s got everybody else’s name where the they’re in. So I think that would be upkept where it’s a shame like gravestones and not really kept up and but yeah. Oh, look at that one. That looks the one looks like the cross with the flowers on. Yeah. This one here looks like this is a family one cuz it’s got a big thing. Okay, this is a nice one with the logs, with a wood. Something different. Never seen a one like that before. 1912, 1907. Lovely. I know you say lovely. It’s a grave at the end of the day. It’s probably a wrong thing to say, but yeah, we’re just going to carry on walking around. And so, we’ve just walked through the streets quite the church and there’s a lovely roundabout with goats on. Yeah, we’ll get some Yeah, goats. All goats. Yeah, we’ll get some old goats. Escape Park. It’s quite busy here. I don’t know whether it must be shopping place there. Um I don’t actually know what’s down there that that wouldn’t be the anywhere near the um where the motor home think the motor gill. I can I can get me words out. I don’t know where it is. Just seems really busy. Unless it’s just a main road. Seems busy that way. Yeah. Never mind. So I think this is the edge of We’ll have a wander back into uh back into pig shop to let that one uh yeah we’ll go and have a walk back in. See what we can find. Just come back in. So I probably was standing here when I was videoing before but Smiddy Hill cattle market. I bet you that’s nice. She could have got the lights up on the tree on the night. Oh, Bob on the night while light the lights up the tree. Oh, yes. John Wilson’s memorial. Mhm. John Wilson. I don’t know him. That’s on that memorial. John Wilson. I know. I’m trying to get around. You know John Wilson fisherman, but that’s not him. I don’t know. 18 must be somebody from here. Like 1867 to 1946. Look. works. Oh, I hope it works. It’s a bit green down there like that one’s empty. Right. Come on. No ropes around there, but them are nice on the little Right. Hello. What? [Music] Not the best of my life, but very nice. Quite got a lot of lime in it. Taste the lime. Absolutely spoiled on this wife. What do you think of Mail? Absolutely. Get yourself a beer. Lovely fish and chips. Look at this one. Absolutely delicious. I guess we’re going to have a romantic mile out somewhere, but this will do us. Um, I’ll get the name, but if you’re in pickle, pop in here. The fish and chips is absolutely delicious. Look at them. What do you think? Lovely. Really nice. I think you can tell by the place. butter, not scraps, butters. Absolutely out. I think, you know, I was tell I think I don’t know if it’s because it’s been a while since fish and chips. That was absolutely out. One of the best I’ve ever did. I’ll have to get the name when we go out and show you where it is. You want fish and chips? Popping. Absolutely delicious. Lovely romantic male with the bird. Big bird. Right, girl. What do you think of them fish and chips? Absolutely lovely. Beautiful, weren’t they? Really nice. And were the staff lovely? Mhm. And you can get a drink in there. And what were they called? I think it was Cattlemans. I don’t know how mans or whatever. The Yorkshire trading. I’ll just show you. I’ll point it out. I don’t know if you’ll see, but it’s just big black and white fish and chips on the top there. Absolutely delicious. Got two fish and chips, two medium fish and chips with the side. Uhhuh. Um you got Piron. I got a half bear already. £42. Absolutely spot on. And that was absolutely delicious. Really nice. Really was. So I’m going to end that one here. We’re going to head home cuz of my car in I’m not heading home. I’m just going back to motor home. Okay, I’ll tell you that. Oh, I call him to swap. Right. So, we had Gilly over there. He giving us loads of grief. That was funny when you walked over that bridge there. I’ve just got to see there was a German lady or something standing on the bridge outside the pub. I’m behind Gail. I’m talking to Gil, but I’m like about 5 ft behind her and there’s a German lady ting on the bridge and she’s like speaking in German and then as Gill walk past what you say been to me and I’m about 5 foot behind like oh well that turned bad like never mind. Anyway, what pot we’re going to head back to the motor home now and we’ll catch us all later. Thank you for viewing. Anyway, this was Pickering view all our videos. Awe thanks for your comment. Pickering is a lovely place to visit and definitely a recommended place to visit ❤
Loved it! Just the way I would want to spend my holiday. Plenty of laughs and good times while sightseeing. You both make it interesting, thanks.
Thanks!
You missed the indoor antique market on the right down a small lane as you climb the hill towards the church! Everything from George Formby DVDs to Beatrix Potter books, coins, etc!
The church contains restored medieval murals on the walls. They were discovered under the plaster when the walls were being repaired! They have now extensively repainted the recovered murals since I was last there about 10 year ago! They are the best in the UK!See Wikipedia for more details!
You also missed Pickering Castle near the church!
No, it isn't. It's very nice and I love visiting it, but Helmsley (about 13 miles west) is even nicer. I can't think of any town nicer than Helmsley.
Cracking little town
You need to go on the steam train across the moors to Whitby, not cheap but a nice day out, you can get off at Goathland where Heartbeat is filmed and Levisham where filmed some of the last Mission Impossible film.
