My First Day in Tokyo – Food, Culture & Big Bikepacking Plans
Japan has been calling me for years. And now finally I get to see what it feels like under my wheels, in my lungs, in my heart. No strict plan, no perfect story line, just a big curious. Let’s see what happens. I will try to get a ticket. [Music] Hello darkness, my old friend. I’m at the station. I was just looking for my train and um I did everything right. I was just irritated by this red light and thought it hadn’t worked. Then I made it work again. Okay. A good choice. [Music] First things first, priority 71. I actually haven’t eaten in like hours just cuz none of my carts work. I don’t know why is this heaven or what? [Music] My god, this is so much food. M Kimchi. Hey, [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey, [Music] [Applause] [Music] I used to not be a big fan of action cam footage, but this one is really cinematic. The most cinematic an action cam could actually be. [Music] The Osmo Action 5 is waterproof, which is great. If I ever have to cross a river, the footage will still be here. [Music] I love this camera because the accessory game is strong. We got a filter that’s good for harsh daylight and a microphone. Right now, that’s a great test cuz there’s building workers right here. Hey, during my adventures, I keep on buying SD cards cuz I run out of storage. And if you’re messy like me and never organize any of those files, the 47 GB inbuilt storage save you. I usually carry everything I own in two bags, a saddle bag and a handlebar bag, so space is really sacred. This camera is super tiny. I can fit it just anywhere. Plus, there’s more space for cookies. [Music] I know my strengths and weaknesses pretty well and I’m very clumsy. So, this camera coming with an extra case is a lifesaver cuz I know I will drop it or I’ll crash with it. Really? Did it happen to you? Uh, a couple of times. No, I So, one time I dropped a camera into a gorge. It went down like 20 mters. Had to climb down the rocks and get it. Footage. Footage. What is you do with this camera? What did you shoot? So, um it’s pretty essential for me that the camera is able to react pretty quickly cuz I’m in the moment. I’m filming things as they happen and I don’t want to miss out on anything beautiful cuz I have to take my camera out of my pocket, do the settings, etc. I just get this, press the button, 3 seconds and it’s done. It’s filming. 4 hours of battery life while filming comes in pretty handy. And um usually I spend like days in the forest and I every like third or fourth day I get a hotel so I can recharge [Music] My route planning, let’s just say it’s a little bit adventurous cuz you don’t always know what the road surface is. So, so many times I ended up on like a gravel road or even an enduro road with my road bike set up. So, then something that’s really essential for you is the stabilization of a camera and this one is incredible. I’ll show you. Catch me. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Hello. Day two in Tokyo. I’m rosing about the city visiting the nicest coffee shops that I can find. I’ve already got about 30 places on my list. I actually think I can make it to all of them as I’m here, but I’ll try to take as many off as possible. I don’t know if anybody else does this, but every city that I visit, I create a list on Google Maps with all the places that I want to see. Mostly it’s food related. [Music] Yes, I eat my way through Tokyo pretty much. But you too, it’s good to have somebody helping me. I’ve heard that Tokyo is famous for it secondhand stuff. So, let’s try this one. Quick reminder to myself. I’m on a budget. Plus, I don’t have storage. Favorite thing to do in Japan so far is going to the supermarkets and eating everything. Yes. Let’s go. Hello. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. kiss. I’m so impressed with the way that people quue in front of the um entries and exits of the trains. It’s just so much discipline here. Um I really stick out. I’m like no rules and here everything is about rules. So um that’s a huge change. I love to explore cities by just walking around. You get to see things that usually you won’t see if you just chase uh points of interest etc. So yeah, open heart, open mind, ice. [Music] Hey, another day, another coffee shop. And this so far is my favorite. It’s called Mia Mia. Meet the guys from Mia Mia. Hey, what does this mean? Um, let’s clap. Let’s clap. This is cool. So, this is what the owner of a coffee shop. It’s amazing. It’s amazing that we um can get to meet people like you and welcome. Thank you guys. So sweet, right? So yeah, you have to stop at Mia if you’re here. They cute. Very artsy vibe. Some vanil. Yes. Yes. Turn it up. Yes. Yes. Guys, the owner is Australian. One can tell. Okay. Yes. Thank you. Thank you, mate. Thank you. [Music] Alina. Yeah. So cool. Thank you. Bicycles are the best. Bicycles are the best. Yes. Yes. Yes. Awesome. So nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Do you come here to this cafe often? Yeah, often. Every day like me every day. My my sh from my daily life. So guys, if you come to this cafe, you meet Tat who builds incredible bikes and he’s trying to build a community in Tokyo for cyclists. So let’s go hit him up if you’re around. Ooh, so cool your bike. Thank you. Thank you. Of course, my course I’m cool. My bike is cool. You are so cool. How can I say so hot in Japanese? Really, really hot. Really hot. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. [Music] I am more or less set about the things I want to take. I don’t know. I’ll just squeeze my running kit, my cycling kits, and all the camping equipment into little bike packing bags. So, um, that will be a little bit of a challenge. It’s technically not possible, but I’ll make it work. Fast commute, new handlebar. So grateful that one worked out. Guys, I have to I have to confess something. I forgot I forgot my helm in the apartment. I only just realized that I’m on my way to the coffee shop. And don’t tell anyone. [Music] Here we go. [Music] [Applause] We are talking action cam, right? So, this is an insane video quality in the dark for an action cam. I’ve never seen this before. So, finest. Oh, so this is a great microphone test. I hope you can hear me cuz it’s stormy here. [Music]
First day in Japan — exploring Tokyo’s culture, food, and getting ready for my next big bikepacking adventure.
After months of traveling across Asia and Australia, I finally made it to Japan! In this video, I wander through Tokyo’s buzzing streets, try some incredible local food (including a few surprises), and share my first impressions of this vibrant city.
I’m also prepping for my upcoming bikepacking trip across Japan — carrying as little as possible and embracing the chaos along the way.
All of this is filmed on the DJI Osmo Action 5, which has quickly become my favorite tool for capturing raw, real moments on the move. From street food close-ups to fast city spins, this camera nailed it all.
If you’re into cycling, ultra adventures, or just love seeing life in different corners of the world, subscribe and come along.
