HONEYMOON IN JAPAN VLOG | 4 days exploring Kyoto & a day trip to Uji

[Music] [Music] we just made it to Kyoto i’m not totally sure where I’m going to be cutting my vlogs so just a quick recap we are in Kyoto now we spent the last three and a half days in Tokyo and then we spent 2 days in Ido in a really small town at a traditional onsen hot springs on the coastline did some hiking so today marks being here for a week officially because we arrived in Tokyo last Saturday today is Saturday we are now in Kyoto we’re spending the next four nights here i’m super excited about it kyoto is supposed to be a really big hub for history there’s lots of temples so we’re excited to be here and be in a new city we are staying at the Hyatt Place Kyoto we’ve already kind of put our stuff everywhere but I would say it’s a pretty good sized room this is our second Hyatt that we’re staying at and the rooms have been a really good size for Japan and Japan has reputation for pretty small hotel rooms but ours have all been I would say a normal size little view out here the buildings there’s a train station in the bottom so we just came straight up from the train so we haven’t seen really any of Kyoto quite yet so I like to just get a little bit organized and then we’ll probably go out and start exploring we shipped our big suitcase from our hotel in Tokyo straight to our Kyoto hotel so we’ve been without this big bag for a couple days so I just want to get everything organized again and then we will go do some looking around do some exploring [Music] [Music] we’re in a taxi headed to the monkey park which I’m thrilled i love animals and I can’t wait to see the monkeys in the wild grabbed coffee this morning at the coffee shop that is called School Bus inside of our hotel which is just just nice the things to look for in a hotel here near or on a train station for sure which both of our hotels have been and then I mean if it can have a coffee shop in the bottom that’s great too wow so good last night we just walked around the area and kind of explored we went to the Gillon district and we saw some geisha which are Japanese performers you can’t take pictures or videos of them so we didn’t do that obviously but cool to see and to walk around that area very pretty it’s a well preserved area of Japanese history and then we ate dinner at a restaurant over there which I’ll put the name on the screen on those clips but that was probably one of our top spots so far they just had a really broad menu with lots of different stuff to try the sushi was delicious i got chicken skewers they were great what is that called where they cook like that in front of you it was a isizakaya type restaurant we also got our custom weis yesterday which we’re going to go pick those up this afternoon so we only had about half day yesterday but we just kind of walked around explored didn’t really have an agenda and yeah today we’re going to do the monkey park we’re going to do some temples and so far we’re really really liking Kyoto [Music] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] it’s pretty good [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] i don’t care [Music] [Music] heat [Music] heat [Music] by [Applause] it’s like not sweet or savory it’s like something in the middle you agree [Music] heat [Music] heat heat heat [Music] we’re back after a pretty long day of walking around and seeing some very cool beautiful temples the one with the I believe they were Buddhas was just very very cool walked around did some shopping and we’re just going to chill for a few hours before we head back out for dinner this evening definitely just a general piece of advice if you’re coming to Japan allow time during the day to relax because your feet will be killing you and you’ll definitely be tired let’s check in on our steps today we are at 11,332 so far today still not as bad as Tokyo tokyo we were doing over 20,000 a day when we go out for dinner tonight we’re going to try to go over to some cocktail bars there was a cocktail bar I really wanted to go to called El Escamote i’m definitely saying that wrong it’s like a magician ran it and they did really cool cocktails but they closed for the month of June to recover after the busy season in Japan which the busy season is cherry blossom season so the spring April May March April May so they closed for June to recover from the season so maybe someone else can go there that’s my recommendation that I haven’t actually been to but we have a few other on the list we’re going to try Bar Alchemist we’re going to try Beesne Knees i also grabbed a gift for my friend who is watching my plants i got her a gift a set of chopsticks but I thought it was cool because they were engraving them so I had them engrave her name on them in Japanese i felt like that was a good personalized gift for her and we also picked up our customized Levi so I got Jarvis in Japanese embroidered on the back pocket and then on the other pocket or back side I got this logo that says Japan Levis’s cute details we’ll probably wear these in the next couple days last thing we got some sweet treats we passed this place and it just smelled so good bins cookies we got a lot we got triple chocolate white chocolate ginger chocolate oatmeal raisin peanut butter chocolate we’re going to have the white chocolate cookie here’s what it looks like [Music] wow super white chocolatey really good [Music] [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] [Music] heat heat heat heat [Music] [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] heat [Music] [Music] heat [Music] heat heat [Music] [Music] we’re back in the room we spent the whole first half of the day on a bike tour an ebike tour but I swear even though it was ebikes like it was still tough there were definitely moments where I was out of breath but it was a lot of fun some friends who came to Japan last year went on this exact tour and told us to do it so we did it they said it was like one of their favorite things they did while they were here and it was really cool we went around to quite a few different temples that are just not touristy they’re not as wellknown temples and shrines one of them was like specifically for education and a bunch of students are about to take tests right now their final exams it was full of students and they came up to us and were practicing their English and it was just cool and then we went to another one that is very relevant to the show Shogun if you watched it which we did um and it was cool just going around to all the temples we were the only tourists at any of the temples that I saw really cool and yeah I’ll link that exact tour that we did down below our tour guide was Henry but I think they have four different guys that do it and now we’re back in the room it was 4 hours long so definitely pretty long tour we also stopped and got like a sweet treat i think it’s mochi but just a different version there’s lots of different versions of mochi and yeah now I’m back in the room i’m actually working on putting away our laundry we did a little bit of laundry last night but the washer dryer didn’t quite fully dry them and someone was waiting so we just took the clothes out wet so they’ve been sitting there hanging up drying i’m about to work on putting those away it’s definitely starting to get warm here in Japan and it was in the 80s today this has been the hottest day we’ve had so far we’ve had quite a roller coaster of weather we had actually a little bit chilly and then rainy and now hot and sunny but I’m not complaining i like the sunny weather but all that to say I definitely need to take a shower now that we’re back and then our plan for the night is really just to walk around Key Coyoto i’ve really learned that the best thing to do is to have a really loose plan and relax a little bit because I think when we first got here to Tokyo we were just jam-packing the days too much and I was so tired it just is kind of more fun to like walk around and take it at a slower pace i’m realizing for myself at least i’m going to put some laundry away take a shower and then we’ll see where the night takes us these are the feet patches that I got at 7-Eleven and I’ve been putting them on my feet when we walk really far and they feel pretty good they remind me of Icy Hot not quite as intense as Icy Hot but something like that so if your feet are hurting you can find these at 7-Eleven [Music] located [Music] only a short ride away from Keyoto we visited Uji for a half-day trip uji is known for having the world’s finest matcha it sits on the Uji River which is gorgeous and it also has the temple that is on the 10 yen coin the main hall of this temple looks like it is floating on water it has koi ponds gardens and it’s absolutely beautiful there is also a museum at the temple that you can go in there was no filming allowed inside but it had a lot of the original architecture preserved inside i really wanted to come to Uji because I am a matcha lover and you can try all things matcha here the river is actually a big reason for the matcha being so good and famous here it helps create a cool climate that protects the tea from any harsh sunlight the river is very clean so it has long supported the region’s agriculture uji was a nice escape it was very peaceful here not too many people there was lots of things to try here but we did first try some matcha soba this was cold soba noodles made with matcha they were delicious i don’t feel like the matcha flavor was too prominent but either way they tasted good and then of course I had to get a matcha latte from Matcha Republic because they put them in these glass containers which I just felt like was such an easy souvenir to take home so Uji was a great little half-day trip for us [Music] today we are in Uji walking around which is a city about an hour outside of Kyoto we did a walking tour which honestly I think you could just come here and walk around yourself i don’t think you needed to do the walking tour and we did a traditional tea ceremony and now we’re headed back fuji is like the matcha capital of the world and I love matcha so wanted to come here and get some matcha which I bought some and now we’re headed back to Kyoto to rest a little bit and then we’ll probably go out tonight to There’s one more shrine I really wanted to see so we might try to squeeze that in and then we’ll head to dinner we have some more laundry going in the washer dryer downstairs we just went to go get some snacks and we’re going to go to Fushimi Ini Shrine a little bit later today but we’ll do that and get dinner so we definitely need a snack beforehand so we just walked over to this little French bakery and I got this ham and onion sandwich and I don’t know what this is but it looks like some kind of chocolate croissant i love a pastry i really do will got the cherry Danish I believe it is and I don’t know these little cookies looked good and they do taste good i’ve already broken into them they’re like little shortbread cookies mhm we tried to go to a sushi spot to get Will some takeout for a snack and they were closed which I will say is something we’ve encountered multiple times now places hours that are on Google are just not accurate i don’t know if they just close when they feel like it or what it is but Google said they were open till 7 PM tonight and they had a big closed sign on their door and yeah it kind of happens all the time so you can’t really fully trust Google because the place is just closed down so instead we just there’s a grocery store called Kyoto Coupe and we just got him some grocery store sushi and some fruit all the fruit here has been incredible like it’s so ripe and juicy i love pineapple today’s step count with our 3-hour walking tour we’re at 13,000 so far today will says “I can’t handle anything more than 12,000 steps a day.” Okay let’s try this thing it looks like a croissant ooh wait there’s something inside of it maybe apple apple it’s like fruit or something you see it they’re walnuts there’s like walnuts and cream inside of this croissant thing honestly I got the sweet treats for later i really need to eat this like ham sandwich i’ve had I think zero protein today cuz for lunch we had soba noodles no protein really for breakfast I had a pancake from Family Mart so let’s eat some ham [Music] heat heat n [Music] heat heat [Music] good morning and I wanted to give a little update on our day yesterday after Uji which we spent about a half day in Uji we got there around 9:30 and we left around 2 2:30 i feel like that’s plenty of time a half day is about all you need there there’s really just a few things to see get your matcha and then you can head back to Kyoto or wherever you’re staying and get another half day there so then we hung out in the hotel for a bit and we went to Fushimi and Ari Shrine which is the one with all the Tory gates it’s a very popular shrine i would say worth the hype it was really cool to see all the Tory gates but since it is so popular definitely expect crowds however we went around sunset time we went around 7:00 and the crowds weren’t that bad there definitely were a good amount of people there but it wasn’t overwhelming so maybe that’s a hack maybe try sunset time i know everyone tells you to go everywhere super early in the morning but honestly I can’t go everywhere early in the morning so I think later is also a little bit of a hack around sunset time and the sunset was beautiful the only bad thing about it was all the restaurants around were closed we had another restaurant that said it was open till 4:00 a.m and we walked over there and they were totally shut down but it’s not too far from Kyoto Station so then we just took the train back to Kyoto station and we went into Kyoto Tower and got some food over there in Kyoto Tower there is a food hall inside of it which we kind of didn’t mean to stumble upon but we just kind of stumbled upon it they had lots of different options today we are headed to Osaka we don’t have to check out here until noon so we’re not really on a strict schedule or anything we’re just kind of We’ll get there when we get there osaka is only an hour train from Kyoto so it’s not bad at all but yeah Osaka is our last city we have three nights in Osaka and one of those days we’re going to do a day trip to Nara so it’s crazy that it’s kind of winding down kind of coming to an end but we’re excited to go to Osaka osaka is known for the food which we have been doing a lot of eating already but we’re going to keep it rolling keep eating keep trying all the food there’s still a few things we want to try that are Osaka specific like the what are they called the octopus balls takoyaki so yeah we are excited to head over to Osaka today i was just looking at some of these clips and editing them and I realized that I was definitely blowing and breathing into the mic way too much so I put on the wind blocker to hopefully help that going forward so full apologies for breathing into your ears like that
