‘s-Hertogenbosch station opened on 1 November 1868 as the northern terminus of the southern part of the Utrecht–Boxtel railway (Staatslijn H), with service south to Boxtel. Only in 1870 were the two parts of Line H joined, allowing for direct service to Utrecht Centraal

De draak van 's Hertogenbosch. Deze fontein is geschonken bij het afscheid van de Commisaris van de Koningin. De draak van 's Hertogenbosch staat symbool voor de moerasdraak van de stad. Een garnizoensstad die tot 1629 niet in te nemen was door vijanden. s Hertogenbosch werd gebouwd als meest noordelijke stad van het oude Hertogdom Brabant. Waar de rivier de Maas en de Dieze in elkaar overlopen. Door het moerasgebied wad het moeilijk om de stad te belegeren. In 1629 slaagde Prins Hendrik van Oranje Nassau ( bijgenaamd de stedendwinger) te stad binnen te dringen. Hij liet de dijken aanleggen in de Bossche Broek. En kreeg de stad op de knieën. Vervolgens bouwde hij het Citadel ( spottend de Papenbril genaamd) om de katholieken in de gaten te houden. Hierbij werd de St.Jan een protestantse kerk. Totdat Napoleon begin 19de eeuw de basiliek terug gaf in Katholieke handen. De naam Oeteldonk tijdens de carnaval betekent : Oetel = kikker.
Donk= is een heuvel in een moerasgebied. De St Jan basiliek was de eerste kerk die buiten de stad verrees op een Donk.
