初春の九州ツーリングDay5 長崎→鹿児島 ~島原、天草~ 【CB250R】
Summary of the previous article. We left Fukuoka, went to Hirado and stayed at the Kaikatsu Club near Nagasaki Airport. The fifth day of Kyushu Touring has started! Good morning everyone. Today is the fifth day of Kyushu Touring, and we will leave the Kaikatsu Club near Nagasaki Airport and head south, passing through Shimabara and Amakusa, and heading for Kagoshima. Our first destination today is Nagasaki Airport. Since we haven’t bought any souvenirs on this tour, we will go to the airport shop that is open from early in the morning. We crossed the connecting bridge with a beautiful morning glow… and arrived at Nagasaki Airport. When we told them at the entrance to the parking lot that we would be staying for a short time, they gave us a free ticket. Thank you for showing us the location. So, we will start our journey in the sky… In the lobby on the first floor, there is a Harley corner. Now, let’s go up to the second floor and buy souvenirs! There were many things on sale and I was confused, but we managed to complete it. I wanted to buy castella, but I gave up because Yamato, which we were going to send, only opened from 8 o’clock. But I was satisfied with being able to buy a lot of things. So we left Nagasaki Airport. Thank you. Our next destination is Shimabara Castle, in the center of Shimabara. It seems that you can get a panoramic view of the Ariake Sea from the top floor! We left Route 34, which was a bit congested during rush hour, and headed to Isahaya City. We took the Shimabara Road and the Unzen Green Road to Shimabara City . It took about an hour and 20 minutes from the airport, and on the right we could see the magnificent Mount Unzen and Mount Fugen. Then, about 10 minutes from there, we arrived at Shimabara Castle. Parking is 200 yen for motorcycles. Keep your money in a place where you can easily get it out… (for the nth time) Now , let’s go inside the castle. Only a reconstructed castle can be parked so close to the castle. Now, let’s conquer the magnificent 7-story castle! We got our stamps… and let’s take a look around. The museum inside the castle has materials about Christians, local materials, and folk materials on display on different floors. There were a lot of materials that I had only seen in textbooks, and it was interesting. So, we went to the top floor. We could see Mount Unzen to the west and the Ariake Sea to the east. What a spectacular view… Thank you, Shimabara Castle. Now, on to our next destination. Our next destination is Kuchinotsu Port in Minamishimabara. From there, we take a ferry to Oniike Port in Amakusa. The ferry leaves at 11:30, and we’re now at 10:10, so we’re pretty close… We can easily get to Kuchinotsu Port on the Shimabara Road and Route 251. This Shimabara Road is the best touring road because you can see both the Ariake Sea and Mount Unzen Fugen, and the road is also beautiful… It’s 40 minutes from Shimabara Castle. We pass the ruins of Hara Castle and it’s about 15 minutes to Kuchinotsu Port. I was interested in the ruins of Hara Castle, as it was the site of the decisive battle of the Shimabara Amakusa Rebellion, but I’ll save that for next time… And at 11:05, we arrived at Kuchinotsu Port. We arrived at just the right time. The motorcycle lane is at the very end. I told them the engine displacement and they gave me a piece of paper. It seems that you can buy a boarding ticket by showing this. Let’s go to the terminal to buy a ticket! We crossed over to Amakusa for 1780 yen! (¥500 per person + ¥1200 for motorcycle) Well, it was time to board the ferry. It was my first time on anything other than a long-distance ferry, so it felt fresh. It’s not a big ship, so vehicles are first come, first served, so be careful if you board. So let’s park our motorcycles and enjoy a short boat trip! We went up the stairs to the cabin. Once we got on the ship, we felt like we were traveling all at once. The trajectory of the ship with Shimabara receding into the distance was nice… A 30-minute boat trip. A short break… So the ferry arrived at Oniike Port, Amakusa. We were late in getting ready, so we were completely late… We hurriedly disembarked. Thank you. And we landed in Kumamoto again! It was past 12 o’clock when we landed. Let’s head south and go to the city of Amakusa for lunch. So we drove for about 30 minutes and went to a restaurant near Hondo Port in Amakusa. There was quite a line… Should we park our motorcycles and line up… I ordered a fried set meal. It was a delicious meal. It was delicious… We had to wait in line for quite a while, but we were able to have a good rest. Now, on to our next destination. Our next destination is Kuratake Shrine, located deep in the western mountains. Some of you may already know it as a shrine in the sky. So, we head west on Route 266. We pass the loop bridge… and drive straight along the coast. The islands floating in the Yatsushiro Sea are beautiful… After about 20 minutes of driving, we arrive at Kuratake. We never imagined that we would have to climb over 600m from here… but there are several signs along the mountain path that must have been influenced by a certain GAINAX anime. We shouldn’t rush. After that, we just keep climbing. So, we go through the last curve and finally arrive. We’ve come a long way… so let’s go up the stairs to the shrine. The top of Kuratake. The view from here is amazing… the shrine is right in front of us now. We can see the torii gate, which is already amazing… this is… and so we arrive at Kuratake Shrine! It’s amazing… My mouth is smiling at the view. Islands floating in the Yatsushiro Sea and torii gates in the sky… It’s so beautiful that I’m at a loss for words… I had a great time… It was Kuratake Shrine. I’m really glad I came this far… Now, let’s go down. I almost got hit head-on by a rental car, but I managed to get down. The road is narrow, so I wish I could choose the right speed… Anyway, it’s past 3pm. Today I have to go to Kaikatsu in Kagoshima, so I can’t make many detours from here… Let’s keep going! I passed Pachinko Yamato, the holy land of WANIMA, and headed to the Matsushima Toll Road. This tunnel that feels like it’s been cut through the mountain is nice… I went through the tunnel and came to the toll booth. I can’t use normal ETC… I want to be able to get the money out right away… Now, after leaving the Matsushima Toll Road, I will cross the Amakusa Five Bridges from here. Bridge No. 5, Matsushima Bridge. Bridge No. 4, Maejima Bridge. Bridge No. 3, Nakano Bridge. So far, everything was going well, but there was no sign like the one before on this bridge. I wondered if this was Bridge No. 2, and then I drove along, wondering what it was. Then I saw another bridge, and there was another one next to it. Which one was the Amakusa Five Bridges? Or rather, which Bridge No. was I on now? In the end, I drove through Amakusa without knowing. After that, I continued heading west, and just as I was getting tired, I saw a sign for a roadside station. It’s going to be a long journey from here, so let’s take a rest. Roadside station Shiranui. We arrived. It seems to be the birthplace of dekopon, and it’s true that you’ve heard of dekopon called Shiranui. Let’s look for a suitable souvenir… So I got a magnet for the roadside station. I just happened to stop by this roadside station without doing any research… Souvenirs from places like this are great… From here, I’ll head to the center of Kagoshima on the highway. From Matsubashi IC, I got on the Kyushu Expressway. On the way, I stopped off at the Yamae Service Area just before Hitoyoshi to take a break and refuel, and then I continued south. After passing through Hitoyoshi and Miyazaki Prefecture for a moment, we finally entered Kagoshima. 56km to Kagoshima city… 38km… is that… Sakurajima? The sun was setting and I was pretty exhausted, but I managed to arrive at Kagoshima IC. It was a little past my reservation time of 7pm, but I wanted to arrive as early as possible. So I arrived at Kaikatsu Club… This store is located inside a complex. It’s from Kumamoto to Kagoshima, and although the distance is not that far, it felt very long… Let’s put our luggage down and go to dinner! Now, for tonight’s dinner, when you think of Kagoshima, it’s black pork! So let’s splurge a little and go to a good restaurant! We sped on our motorcycles and arrived in 10 minutes. It looked quite nice, but I was a little nervous when I entered the store. I ordered the black pork mille-feuille cutlet set meal . The black pork rolled up was fluffy. My last dinner in Kyushu was the best… Thank you for the meal… It was past 9pm. I bought tomorrow’s breakfast at a nearby co-op and returned to Kaikatsu. That’s all for now. Thank you for reading to the end. Next time will be the last episode. Please look forward to it. Farewell – With the unexpected addition of Ibusuki, the schedule is super packed. Sakurajima is approaching. Will we be able to eat all the udon? What is there at the southernmost tip of the mainland? And will we make it in time for the ferry? Next time, the final episode of our Kyushu tour. Please look forward to it!
