Kagoshima, Japan Vlog (DOC Diaries 15)
[Music] Welcome to Kakoshima. You probably can’t see me, but this is the view outside of my hotel room with this amazing volcano that looks like it’s literally erupting right now. Please hold. So incredible. So, we just arrived in Kagoshima and we’ve got a couple of days here to have some fun before we have our concert. By the way, my name is Kellyanne and I’m currently touring Japan on a contract called Disney on Classic. We have been having a blast exploring so many cool places in Japan. This week, we are here in Kagoshima. The first thing that I’m going to do here on day one is go to the aquarium. There are lots of aquariums in Japan and I have not been to one yet. And I guess this is a really good one. There are like whale sharks here. So, I’m going to go check out the aquarium and get this Kagoshima adventure off on a good start. [Music] This is amazing. Hey you guys. Hello. I would give you a little pat if I [Music] could. He’s like right up against glass. [Music] You’re so weird [Music] looking. I would love to pack him. Why are you so cute? So, my final thoughts are it is certainly a lovely aquarium. I’m not very into aquariums in general, I would say. Hi. Just because sometimes it’s obviously very sad to see these like huge animals that are used to having the whole ocean in these very small tanks. I will say I think my very favorite part was the jellyfish. I think I don’t mind so much because I don’t think they’re quite as conscious. So, it was very fun to see the jellyfish over here by [Music] Hey. I have no idea what that is. Good. Today we’re going to go bike on that active volcano. Yeah, we are. Here we are. Everybody excited? Yeah. Love a volcano. Very excited cuz we’re on a ferry. So, first we have to take this ferry over to that island and we are on our way. Thank you. The ferry is great. It costs 250 yen for adults. There are bathrooms. Um there are vending machines up on the top deck. The connection between the volcano, the people, and nature. All right, we just paid for our ferry and now we got some stand. Step one on any good adventure. Yeah. Oh, it’s a good one. We’re stopping off at a Lawson and I found this. It’s a tangerine cider. There’s something about tangerines or like oranges here. Um something about the soil, but they’re totally famous for here. So, I’m going to get this cider. Lava ground bike. I secured myself a rental ebike at this hotel. Basically, there are like multiple places you can go to get a bike rental. Some have ebikes, some have regular bikes. At the moment, we’re all struggling to get a bike rental. It’s only 11:10 in the morning, and a lot are rented out. In fact, this was the very last ebike here. So, yeah, I’m excited that I got the ebike. So, we’re going to all meet back up once we’ve gotten our bikes. And we’re going to bike over there. It costs 4,500 yen for 3 hours. And then I think every additional hour is 1,000 yen. I think the whole course takes like 4 hours, so I’m prepared to spend more than that. But yeah, this bike’s really cool. There’s a place for your phone. There’s a little basket in the back to put some stuff and like a water bottle. And yeah, he explained some things here like like this is how you change the whatever. I’m going to have to figure this out. I’ve actually never ridden an ebike before. [Applause] [Applause] We’re gaining elevation. This is my first time on an ebike. Ebake. Ebike. And it’s harder than I thought. Still, I kind of thought it would be like an electric scooter or something where you just like press the button and go. There’s still quite a lot of effort involved in getting up these hills. Let me tell [Music] you. And just because I find it quite interesting, we run into these shelters along the way for what do you call a lava explosion? a volcanic eruption, I suppose. And they look like this. I don’t know how much help this would be, but we’ve seen a lot of these so [Music] far. This story is wild. So, they had lots of info that you could read on plaques and stuff around here about how this eruption just like totally decimated this area. The shrine that this Tory gate goes to is underground. The shrine that stands here now is new. And another sweet little fun fact is that the nearby school, I think it was a middle school, the students clean and take care of this small shrine. So that’s very sweet. Another thing I want to say is that we were prepared for a lot of ash. We were prepared to like wear face masks and to be covered in soot. And at least so far, we have not encountered that. Maybe it’s just like a really nice day. Or maybe we’re lucky. Or maybe it’s always like this. I have no idea. But we feel quite lucky. This is truly stunning. Stunning. Stunning. Wow. We’re doing kind of the other side of the mountain now. And I feel much more that I am on the freeway, which is a little scary. There’s a lot of cars and a lot of construction strangely, but still insanely gorgeous. We’re at this like observation place. Got a little soft serve. Amazing. This is spectacular. We did it. Woohoo. Oh my gosh. A 22 mile bike ride. Took almost 4 hours with lots of stops for scenery along the way. Wow. We are extremely proud of ourselves. The final cost for the bike rental was 5,500 yen. I ended up spending 1,000 extra yen because I used one extra hour, which I totally expected. It’s funny that they rent the bikes out for 3 hours when they know that the bike trip takes four, but that’s okay. It was $5,500 yen, which was only $35. So, I’m not mad at that price at all. I would highly, highly, highly recommend the ebike. All of my friends said the same. If you can manage it, if you can get here early enough to get an ebike, there is absolutely no reason not to get the ebike. And that little extra assistance is like so so nice. And the trip is not without effort on the ebike. It is still hard hard. So, you’re not cheating yourself out of the physical activity of it all by doing the ebike. My friends that did more research on this said that they were surprised that nobody said this, like you must do the ebike if at all possible. You got to do the ebike. So, I will be the one to share that. Ebike all the way. That was the longest cycling adventure of my whole life. And I don’t have a single regret. I’m so proud of myself. It was absolutely stunning and something to be so proud of ourselves for. Can’t even talk. I’m so tired. I need water and food. We found cats. Oh, you’re so close. You’re so close. Oh, a little lick. We found this much talked about free little foot bath. Oh, this is so cute. Oh, it’s very deep. Wow. the American for this island. This made me really want to do like Colorado or not Colorado like the Grand Canyon and like Yeah, that’s on my list. Thank you for traveling with us today. Bye-bye, Sakura. All right, can I get some final thoughts? Oh, beautiful. It was one of my favorite experiences in Japan. Yay. Yeah, I just like highly recommend it and I hope that everyone gets the same sort of weather that we have. It was top experience. It’s one of my top experiences in Japan. I really like the foot. That’s it. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
