Japan Travel | 800 km by Road Bike (Well, Almost) | Day 1–2: Nara to Osaka

[Music] Hey guys, it’s Galia in Japan. Today we are in Nara and this is day one of a cycling trip across Japan. We’ve just picked up two secondhand road bikes and we are about to ride them home. Well, we have no idea if this will work. From where we are now, it’s over 800 kilometers back to Fukoka. The story began just two days ago in Fukoka when while looking for options, I came across two bikes that felt just right. We care about sustainability, so we were set on getting secondhand bikes. In Japan, there is a platform called Bare, a hidden gem. If you live here, you can browse thousands of youth bikes from all over the country. Some are nearly new straight from the showroom. Others are older, full of character and charm. The bikes we found were a perfect fit in size and in style. One of them hadn’t even been used, just a lucky find. The only catch, they were both in Nada. That’s when the idea came. What if we go there, pick them up, and ride them home? Nearly 800 kilometers with zero road bike experience and bikes we’ve never ridden before. Let’s see where the road takes us. Come along if you feel like it. [Music] [Music] Do you need [Music] [Music] What are you doing? [Music] I hope they’re waiting for us still. [Music] You see this? [Music] [Music] [Music] I’m Get camera. [Music] [Music] Hello. [Music] [Music] Are they like going home? Go. How are you doing? [Music] It’s a video. It’s a video with a bird sounds. You want nature? [Music] Wow. Hey. [Music] [Music] That’s awesome. [Music] Hi. Ha. [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Today we covered nearly 40 kilometers with lots of hills along the way. It was a full day. The last part into Osaka was tough, but we are slowly getting used to the bikes. I feel tired, but also happy. Happy to be here now in the moment. If you’re enjoying this ride, please subscribe. The next episode is coming soon.

🚲 Japan Travel | Road Bike Journey — Day 1–2
We begin our slow travel adventure across Japan — with two secondhand road bikes (one of them turned out to be almost new!) we picked up in Nara.

From feeding deer in Nara Park to riding under cherry blossoms along the Saho River, and ending the day with konbini food and laundry breaks near Osaka — this is how it starts.

📍 Nara Park, 奈良公園
📍 Kawaji Sakura path along the Saho River
📍 First night stop with local friends
📍 Lots of hills, not enough bike gear (yet)
📍 Real talk: konbini dinners and laundry breaks

We are riding across Japan — slowly.
From Nara back to Fukuoka, across five prefectures, with no big plan — just two bikes and the open road. Not about records — about noticing.

We don’t know if we’ll finish the full route —
but this journey isn’t about the finish line.
It’s about the time in between.
Being present. And truly living.

  1. I'm so envy! This is one of my bucket lists. To cycle around Japan, no definite plans, just cycle and enjoy the moment and the journey.☺️

  2. Hello from Tokyo! You two know more about traveling in Japan than most Japanese people—I didn’t even know you could use convenience stores like that.

By the way, for longer stops like lunch breaks, especially when you have multiple road bikes, I recommend using high-quality locks like ABUS. You can use a single lock to secure all the bikes together, which makes things much safer. Unfortunately, bike theft is still quite common here.

  3. Just subscribed—thanks for sharing your adventure! 🙏🏽 The videography and editing are awesome. 👍🏽 Hope you can share what gear you use and how you do your color grading. Thanks! 😊
