We woke up to a full-blown rainstorm, the kind that makes you want to stay in bed forever. Instead, we stared at the weather radar, hoping for a miracle. When the rain dialed back from ‘monsoon’ to just ‘persistent drizzle,’ we took our chance and hit the road. Wet, but determined.

Near Orléans, we were treated to an unexpected show: a massive military plane swooped low, followed by a fighter jet breaking through the clouds. A coincidence? Or did President Macron himself arrange a little something for our visit? Très chic, Emmanuel. Très chic.

The muddy paths near Huisseau-sur-Mauves made us work for every meter, but a bakery, a castle, and the knowledge that Joan of Arc once passed through here kept us going. If she didn’t complain, we can’t either—right?

We ended the day at Center Parcs Les Hauts des Bruyères, where a warm bath, friendly faces, and a late-night feast (of too much food we bought in the on-site supermarket) made everything feel just right. Sure, the rain tried to slow us down, but honestly, it just made the adventure even better.
