The southern end of Chiekoin-dori This forest is Nijo Castle This large park is Nijo Park Let’s start now The wall in the front left is the former site of the NHK Kyoto Broadcasting Station The NHK Kyoto Broadcasting Station has now moved to the area around Karasuma Oike [00:01: 52.28]A paid nursing home is scheduled to be built on this site around 2026 It’s a nice place quiet and with lots of nature near Nijo Castle The building with the triangular roof on the right is Sasaki Sake Brewery It’s the family home of actor Sasaki Kuranosuke Chiekoin-dori is not straight but curves in places Tatsumi Park (Waraku Park) comes into view As you can see there is a monument in this park that records that it was damaged by air raids during World War II We often hear that Kyoto was not bombed However There were air raids in the Nishijin area Umamachi in Higashiyama Ward and Uzumasa in Ukyo Ward and many people were affected This monument was made to record that fact and leave it for future generations This area which is now a park was also an area that was bombed It is now a peaceful park where children can play happily but we must continue to maintain this peaceful park in the future Next there are the remains of Jurakudai Mamachi which is next to the park to the north is a park that was once a park The stone walls of Jurakudai were excavated and found on the condominium grounds This area is located to the north of the southern moat of Jurakudai’s main enclosure It has been refilled under the soil next to this information board [00:05:54. 17]The grass is overgrown But it’s romantic to think that the stone walls of the magnificent castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi are below We can see Chieko-in Temple which is the origin of the street name Chieko-in Temple of the Jodo sect Shonen-san Byodo-ji Temple In 1294 the founder of the Takatsukasa family one of the five regent families It was originally built by Takatsukasa Kanehira It is said that it was relocated several times due to frequent fires but the details are unknown The current main hall was rebuilt in 1855 The principal image is an Amida Buddha statue made by Kaikei and the six-armed Jizo statue in the Jizo hall is said to be made by Ono no Takamura Visits are not permitted and entry is prohibited to anyone other than temple parishioners and related parties However the head priest runs an acupuncture clinic at the temple so it may be okay to enter when receiving treatment Tachibana Park is next to Chieko-in Tachibana Park It’s a typical park but there’s something a little unusual at the back This is a radio tower that was installed in 1939 Previously We also introduced this in Funaokayama’s vlog Broadcasting stations set them up in parks to popularize radio They used to be all over the country but only a few remain today They’re valuable cultural assets Kadode Hachimangu Shrine is in sight Kadode Hachimangu Shrine is pronounced Kado de Hachimangu The deities worshipped are Honda Wake no Mikoto (Emperor Ojin) and Hime Okami and Okinagatarashi hime no mikoto (Empress Jingu) It is said that the shrine was established when Usa Hachimangu Shrine was enshrined to protect the imperial palace of Heian-kyo As the stone monument indicates it is said that when Minamoto no Yoshitsune set out for Hiraizumi in Oshu he prayed for a safe journey Therefore It was named "Kadode Hachiman Shrine" after the word "Kadode" meaning "start" It was originally called "Uchino Hachiman Shrine" This sense of depth is nice [00:12:52 .42]The main shrine seems to be built on top of a small hill This is Benten Climbing the hill The main shrine Benefits include safe travels protection from insects in children safe childbirth protection from misfortune good luck and guaranteed victory Then we go down the hill There are various things and it’s a fun place to walk We came down from Benten side If you go on a trip please be sure to visit Chiekoin-dori continues via Teranouchi-dori [00:20:53.34 ]We arrived at the northern end of Chiekoin-dori The northern end of Chiekoin-dori The wall and gate you can see in front is Daitokuji Temple This large street is Kitaoji-dori Streetside gourmet Sarasa Nishijin Previously introduced in #13 Kuramaguchi-dori We arrived at Nishijin Sarasa The karahafu roof and its structure give off an indescribable feeling of nostalgia This place was renovated from a public bath and opened in 2000 Let’s go inside The interior is decorated with Majolica tiles making it a stylish space [00:22:23.5 9] This atrium is a remnant of the bathhouse Apparently the bathtub from that time remains under the floor Lunch menu I ordered Turkish rice and ginger ale The total cost was 1700 yen It was very filling and delicious

Hello everyone
Thank you for watching Cycle Panda ch.
In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto,
which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard.
I ride my bike (and walk where I can’t) at a leisurely pace.
I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way.
Please take your time to take a look.
Chiekoin Street
A street that runs from Kita-ku to Kamigyo-ku in Kyoto City.
The road runs from Kitaoji-dori in front of Daitokuji Temple in the north to Takeyacho-dori on the north side of Nijo Castle in the south.
The northern part of the street is an area where the Nishijin streetscape remains,
while the southern part of the street is a residential area with many new buildings.
The street’s name comes from the temple Chiekoin, which faces the street, as the name suggests.
Chiekoin is located almost in the center of the street,
but unfortunately it is not open to the public.

Thank you for watching this video,
I would be happy if you could learn about a side of Kyoto that you don’t know about.
We look forward to seeing you again in the next video.
