ごみを正しく出しましょう!(瀬戸内市外国人向けごみの分け方動画)Waste sorting in Setouchi

Hello everyone! Welcome to Setouchi City! It can be difficult getting used to the customs and rules of a new country. To help create a society where we can all live happily side by side, we are going to explain some important rules around waste disposal.

In Setouchi, each neighborhood has its own “gomi station”. A “gomi station” is a waste collection point. Each waste collection point is managed by a residents’ association. All members live in that specific neighborhood. Residents’ associations discuss problems and create rules to promote a happy and peaceful living environment for all.

Before using a waste collection point for the first time, you must obtain permission from your local residents’ association. The type of waste collected varies from day to day. Make sure to check the waste collection schedule before putting out your trash! When you visit Setouchi City Hall for the first time,

Be sure to ask for information about your own residents’ association. City hall staff can provide you with an info pamphlet about household waste sorting. Please read it carefully. It is available in several languages. There are 7 main waste categories.

Sorting method and collection day, as well as other details, vary by category. Let’s have a look at those 7 categories. 1. First, burnable waste. Burnable waste must be put in a Setouchi City-designated yellow bag and disposed of on burnable waste day.

City-designated yellow bags can be bought at convenience stores, drug stores, and supermarkets. 2. Next up, plastic waste. Rinse and dispose of plastic packing with the “pura” 「プラ」logo in a transparent plastic bag. Plastic packing without the “pura” 「プラ」logo are burnable waste.

They must be put in the City-designated yellow bag and disposed of on burnable waste day. Remove labels and caps from PET bottles. Rinse the label and cap, put them in a transparent plastic bag, and dispose of them on plastic waste day like other plastics. PET bottles are recyclable

And should be disposed of on plastic waste day. 3. The third category is glass food and drink containers After removing the cap, glass jars and bottles must be sorted by color. Bottles and jars should be placed in the corresponding containers for ‘clear’, ‘brown’, and ‘all other colors’. 4. Fourth is beverage cans.

Rinse any cans and put them in the container provided on can collection day. 5. Before disposal, magazines and newspapers, as well as other paper with the “kami” [紙] recyclable paper logo, must be laid flat, stacked, and tied with string (or disposed of in a fully paper bag).

6. “Kinzoku” [金属] means metal. Glass and metal must be put in the designated containers provided. 7. Our last category is bulky waste such as bicycles and futons. Bulky items that can be transported by a single person must be disposed of on bulky waste collection day.

For bulky items that you can’t carry by yourself, ask a friend to help you take them to the city’s waste sorting facility “Clean Center Kamome”. Be aware that there is a fee for bulky waste disposal at “Clean Center Kamome”. There are also companies you can call

To dispose of bulky items for you. These companies also charge a fee for their services Important: How to dispose of cooking oil! Don’t pour cooking oil down the drain! Blot it up with absorbent paper or solidify it with hardening powder then dispose of it as combustible waste.

«What collection day is it today? When can I throw out my PET bottles? » When in doubt, check out Setouchi City’s Three R app! By checking the Three R app, you can see which category your waste falls into and when to dispose of it.

Let’s look back at the key do’s and don’ts of waste sorting! 1. When visiting Setouchi City Hall for the first time, make sure to find out about your local residents’ association. 2. Thoroughly go over the household waste sorting pamphlet.

3. If in doubt, check the Three R app so you don’t get the collection day wrong. If you put out your waste on the wrong day,it won’t be collected. So be sure to follow the rules! Waste sorting may seem like a hassle,

But we all need to do our best to protect the environment and our planet! Thanks for watching! See you around!
