This is a mysterious incident that Mr. Kondo heard about in 2003 from a business associate in Yamanashi Pref who had recently experienced it. Mr.Sato, let us call him Mr.Sato, was an employee of a construction company at that time.

Wada Construction was ordered by the prefectural government to carry out civil engineering work on the Minami-Alps Super Forest Road in Yamanashi Pref, and Mr. Sato ws assigned to the construction site.

But they knew that if they followed the Minami-Alps Super Forest Road, they would be deep enough in the mountains to reach Komagane in Nagano Pref.

It was surprising that there was a private house deep in the mountains, but this man was going deeper and deeper into the mountains with no equipment and in a suitcase and a suit.

As the prefectural government official was showing them to their rooms on the second floor, they suddenly heard the sound of workers making a commotion outside the office building. When Mr.Sato wondered what was going on, he was told that another man doming down the mountain path.

To his surprise, a third person was coming down the mountain. The man who came down the mountain was a large man, liking exhausted, and he was standing at the entrance of the office. Mr.Sato asked the man , “How are you? Are you all right?”

The man then said, “I parked my car at the foot of the mountain and went up the day before for Kitadake, but the weather worsened and I had to turn back. The man did not appear to have eaten anything, so Mr.Sato and the others immediately offered him what they had on hand.

The man thanked Mr.Sato and the others, saying “finally got to eat,” and seemed relieved. While earing the meal, he became friendly and talked about how difficult it was for him to get here and about various mountain-related topics, as the man was a mountain photographer.

Then, the photographer suddenly remembered that he had recently heard a strange story related to this mountain. The story was that there was a person moving the mountain in clothing that was not appropriate for the mountains,

And that it appeared at another site of a collapse prevention project a short distance away from here, made a mess of the construction work at the site, and disappeared into thin air. The person was said to have been a human being itself.

Mr.Sato asked him what he meant by “messing up the construction site,” He replied, “They would approach construction sites and homes posing as passersby or hikers and ask for help from the workers or people living there, or make up stories to reassure them.

When Wada Construction was contracted to do civil engineering work in the same of Minami-Alps, there was an incident in which equipment that had been prepared on site was destroyed in a mess.

It was clear that something had happened. Mr.Sato rushed to his office. The office was in chaos, with people screaming and looking for something. The inside of the office was a mess. The desks and floors were muddy with hoof prints, windows had been broken, and there was even defecation.

The copier and refrigerator had been upside down, leaving Mr.Sato speechless. “What the hell is this?” He said a prefectural official came down from the second floor with a bloodthirsty look on his face and said, “That’s not enough.” Sensing something was wrong upstairs, Mr.Sato quickly ran up the stairs.

When he got there, he found that neither the man in the suit nor the woman hiker were in the rooms on the second floor. Instead, there were hoof prints of mud all over the rooms.

Upon closer inspection they found that the bedding that had been provided for the man in the suit and the woman hiker had not been used at all. In any case, there were muddy, unseen hoof prints everywhere. Mr.Sato couldn’t take in the situation right away.

Last night, a prefectural official felt uncomfortable on the way out and moved to his car, which meant that there was no-one in the office except for a man in a suit and a woman hiker. And the lock, which the prefectural official had locked securely from the outside, had been successfully busted open.

The photographer, who was sleeping in the changing room adjacent to the office on the first floor, said he may have been sold asleep, but he did not hear a single sound. Then, a craftsman came back from the construction site near the tunnel, again with a bloodthirsty look on his face,

And shouted, “Come here at once! So Mr.Sato and the others, and the prefectural officials all climbed on to the site, even riding in the back of a light truck. And they were all astonished.

The repaired concrete and slope of the tunnel portal were covered with countless hoof prints and, like the office, had been defecated on. The work tools had been smashed and messed up. The excavator and mixer could not be knocked down, but the hoof marks were still there.

After a while, they all came to themselves and one of the craftmen went to call the police at the foot of the mountain. The rest of them gathered at the office grounds, including the photographer man, who could not hide his surprise at seeing the story he had heard come true.

The photographer mn then said to Mr.Sato, “The man in the suit and the woman hiker, they did it, they are the ones who started the whole ruckus. Then, Mr.Sato told him about something rustling in the woods late at night,

He said, “They are beasts disguised as humans, and that late-night rustling, they called in their friends and messed up the office and the site!” He shivered and wiped his sweat as he spoke.

A short time later, the stationed police arrived from the foot of the mountain, but as soon as they saw it, they knew they couldn’t handle it themselves, so several police cars from the police station that has jurisdiction over this area of Minami-Alps City soon arrived at the construction site.

While they inspecting the site, the police were interviewing Mr.Sato and others about various matters.

So Mr.Sato and the other, as well as the prefectural officials, told the police the whole series of events, including the man in the suit, the woman hiker, and the fact that the forest was rustling at night, but the police just nodded their heads.

As a side note, the photographer who was sleeping in a room adjacent to the office and did not notice the noise was suspected to be one of the culprits, but after investigation, he was found to be a person of good identity and unrelated to the incident.

Finally, it was implicitly concluded that it was the work of something other than a human being, and being the case was related to the prefecture, a priest from a shrine at the food of the mountain was invited to pray for the victims. After that, nothing happened at the scene.

After that, Mr.Sato became curious about Kuwata’s house, where the man in the suit said he was going, and investigated. He found that there were no houses and not even an abandoned village on the Minami-Alps Super Forest Road.

When Mr.Sato shared this story with Mr.Kondo, there happened to be a firefighter from F City, Yamanashi Pref, who told him that he had a similar experience when he was dispatched to extinguish a forest fire. Unfortunately, Mr.Kondo was not able to hear about his experience.

When Mr.Kondo asked Mr.Sato why this incident and similar vandalism’s at construction sites before it did not make the news, Mr.Sato said that perhaps the prefectural government does not reveal psychic or mysterious phenomena in its work.

Perhaps there is some beastly demon or something else lurking in the mountains, other than people or animals, that is angry at man’s destruction of nature.

I don’t know if we should call it a demon or a mountain god, but it was a true story that made me realize once again that such a thing really exists.
