Day Trip at The City of Arts And Sciences in Valencia
Please turn on the captions in the video settings We’re visiting the City of Arts and Sciences with Paul’s parents today We want to show them what the Christmas market here looks like but first, let’s look at this! This is the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe or The Prince Philip Science Museum
This museum is designed by Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava Covering an expansive 42,000 square meters, this museum holds the title of being the largest in Spain. One of the coolest things about this museum is its interactive exhibits. “Forbidden not to touch, not to think, not to feel”
Here, you’re encouraged to touch, play, and immerse yourself in the world of science From physics to biology, there’s something for everyone. Open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in winter, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in summer This is actually our first time looking at this museum from this angle
And I must say, this is THE best angle The ground floor boasts engaging spaces like “Science on Stage” and the dynamic “TV Studio.” but more importantly, this is where the Ninot exhibition takes place! The Ninot Exhibition is synonymous with the Fallas festival, an age-old Valencian tradition dating back centuries
During the weeks leading up to the festival’s climax on March 19th, intricate and whimsical sculptures known as “ninots” are displayed at the museum.
All of them have been submitted by Valencia’s Fallas committees, in the hope that their ninot will be saved from the fire, despite the fact that only two are given a reprieve each year. Let’s head on upstairs Love the view from up here! Let’s check out the Umbracle
The Umbracle was designed as an entrance to the City of Arts and Sciences. It is an open structure enveloping a landscaped walk with plant species indigenous to Valencia The plants displayed were carefully picked to change colour with each season. The Umbracle also harbors in its interior The Walk of the Sculptures,
An outdoor art gallery with sculptures by contemporary artists (Miquel de Navarre, Francesc Abbot, Yoko Ono and others) It is also home to numerous free-standing sculptures surrounded by nature During the summer, we sit on these benches and just people watch These cone shapes are elevators!
Let’s cross the street and head towards one of the most recognizable buildings in the city Welcome to the Queen Sofía Palace of the Arts or the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía is an opera house and performing arts center
It has four sections: the main hall, the master hall, the auditorium, and the Martin y Soler theatre. It holds many events such as opera, theatre and music in its auditoriums Panoramic lifts and stairways connect platforms at different heights on the inside of the metallic frames of the building
Its futuristic and avant-garde design makes it a standout structure along Valencia’s skyline The Queen Sofía Palace of the Arts is the tallest opera house globally, soaring 14 stories high with three additional stories underground Doesn’t it look like a conquistador helmet? Definitely looks like a conquistador helmet We’re getting hungry from all this walking
Time to head to the market and see what they have Time to head to the market and see what they have Fun fact: Located right next to Valencia’s opera house is the world famous Berklee School of Music!
Situated within this architectural masterpiece, Berklee’s Valencia campus offers students a unique and inspiring environment to pursue their musical aspirations. I mean, what better venue to pursue the arts right? It’s just breathtaking! Let’s now head on over to the Christmas market
The Mercado de Navidad is open from December 15 to January 7 They have a bunch of activites for the kids that involves Christmas crafts from soap making to blacksmithing! Be sure to check the schedule The market also has a lot of food!
Which made it difficult for us to choose what we wanted to eat Of course, there’s pizza which made the decision making process harder There’s also this! First time I’ve ever seen one in a Christmas market! Burgers, empanadas, hmmm… This is honestly why we love Christmas markets in Spain
Because you get to sample the rice dishes of Valencia and RICE IS LIFE! This stew looks so good though! My mom wants to eat everything lol Pulpo a la Gallega is a traditional Spanish dish, specifically from the region of Galicia.
The dish typically features tender boiled octopus slices seasoned with sea salt and paprika This one is called Paella Valenciana Locals say that this is the only dish that can be called a “Paella”. All the others are just called “Rice dish or Arroz”
Paella Valenciana traditionally includes rabbit, chicken, snails, flat green beans (garrofó), white beans, artichokes, saffron, and rice This one is a rice dish with squid and cuttlefish (sepia) I wish you could smell this It smells so good! On average, a traditional paella typically takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour to cook
The key factor influencing the cooking time is the type of rice used. Short-grain rice varieties, such as Bomba, are commonly used in paella and require a longer cooking time to absorb the flavors Of course, a Christmas market in Spain wouldn’t be complete without alcohol
They serve different types here including Beer and Wine and Gluhwein! Oh boy… now we’re talking! Esmorzaret, ironically, ‘little lunch’ in Valencian is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the region and bocadillos (sandwiches) play a huge part in it Valencianos often opt for a bocadillo during this mid-morning break
It becomes a convenient and satisfying option for a quick and flavorsome snack, allowing people to recharge and enjoy a delicious bite without the formality of a full meal
Whether it’s a simple Jamón bocadillo or one with more elaborate fillings like cheese, chorizo, or vegetables, the bocadillo serves as a versatile and beloved component of Valencian mid-morning culinary culture Oh man! I was already sold on the sandwich! Smells good! Okay, I think we have a winner! Sausages are my weakness
Especially the ones from Germany and topped with grilled onions! Finally! Now we need to walk around more to burn the calories! They have a nice photo spot here Obligatory Christmas photo These two always looking for dessert lol YUM!!!
So many nice stalls here but I feel like we need to explore the outside area That’s a pretty cool photo spot Let’s walk towards Hemisferic I’m so surprised these two are still walking and didn’t complain one bit lol The Hemisféric primarily functions as a digital planetarium, IMAX cinema, and laserium
It regularly hosts a variety of educational programs, 3D shows, and documentaries related to astronomy and the natural world. Parent sitting is hard work but we did it! This is the back part of the Science Museum or is it the front? lol Time to visit the famous Valencia sign
Please remember, there is a cue for taking photos here You can also do bike tours. Just try not to hit the pedestrians. The tours are available in different languages Oh man. All these people laying on the grass is making us sleepy.
My parents tried to stay awake… until they found an empty bench lol Okay just a few more seconds and we’ll start walking again I swear. Every angle of this park is just surrounded by beauty and happy people are everywhere! Even the furry residents! Well, that’s it! Thanks for watching!

I loved this video. The ambient sound around you was very relaxing. We will be there in a couple of weeks for our scouting trip. We can't wait to see as much as we can. Thanks for your hard work on your channel.
My husband and I enjoyed this visit to the City of Arts and Sciences and we’ve watched all of your other videos as well. One of the things we’ve enjoyed most throughout your shows is your commentary, interaction and ad libbing. We are hopeful you have not decided to completely change your format and continue with the videos minus commentary. We would love to remain loyal viewers but are not sure we are interested in the new format. All the best and happy new year!
Finally some warmer weather this week. The food there looks yummy. So much to do around that area. Have a great day and thanks for sharing this awesome video.
I went here with a girlfriend and accidently spent the whole day. I left exhausted. We should have committed to two hours per day and then just kept returning. There is so much en la Cuidad de Arte y Cienca!
That’s gorgeous. Main thing I look forward to is Oceanografic (any chance you’re popping in there soon? 😅) so much that I almost overlooked this whole amazing part 🥴 and the food amigos 🤤👌
