Spring in Rural Japan by Local Train
We’re hopping on the Iiyama Line in northern Nagano for a spring day trip, letting rock, paper, scissors decide what we do along the way! Starting in Nagano Prefecture and crossing into Niigata, the line winds through some beautiful countryside popping with cherry blossoms. As always, things don’t entirely go to plan but that’s the fun of a travel day on one of Japan’s quieter, scenic local lines.

And with this video, we've completed a rock, paper, scissors journey along Japan's local lines in all 4 seasons! We didn't mean for it, but what started out as a way to explore our local area in one video, ended up turning into a series – taking Japan's local trains has just been such a fun way to see the countryside 😊
With the full set complete (minus the setback in winter 😅), we're thinking about what we want to do next. If you have any ideas or if there's anything you'd like to see – about the countryside, Japan's trains or anything else, do let us know!
