Heat. Heat. Heat Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat

🚴♀️ **2025/11/14|Yunling Hidden Gems & Chianan Scenic Ride 5D|D1
After days of rain brought by Typhoon Phoenix, the skies finally cleared, gifting us a bright, refreshing morning. A gentle breeze swept across Douliu Station as sunlight fell on our neatly lined-up bicycles—illuminating the first chapter of our five-day journey.
Our team was a warm blend of Taiwan cyclists, friends from Hong Kong and Canada, couples, father–daughter duos, and longtime companions. Local riders and overseas guests instantly formed a friendly, diverse group, adding a touch of global flavor to this “Yunling Hidden Gems × Chianan Scenery” adventure.
At 11 AM, with shared smiles and anticipation, we officially set off.
Not long after leaving the city, we entered the iconic Gukeng Green Tunnel.
This lush avenue of mango trees was planted in the late 1950s by local administrator Yeh Pi-chao and community residents. Today, the two-kilometer stretch stands as a cherished local memory and a beloved “natural air-conditioning corridor” for cyclists.
Sunlight filtered through the thick foliage, casting soft shadows as we rolled quietly beneath the canopy—an intimate embrace only slow travel can offer.
By noon, we arrived at the serene Dapu Eco-Community.
Blessed with pure mountain water and clean environment, this area is known for bamboo shoots, bananas, ponkans, oranges, pineapples, organic coffee, and tea—a true agricultural treasure of the Chianan hills.
Lunch at the Evergreen Canteen was hearty and delicious, and the fresh guava served afterward stole everyone’s heart with its crisp sweetness.
After the meal, a local representative shared the traditional longan wood-smoked drying process and the cultural stories behind their bamboo shoot products. These simple yet meaningful agricultural crafts not only support the community’s economy but also give back to local elders—creating a beautiful cycle between land and people.
In the afternoon, we reached the Tongtou Suspension Bridge at the 14K mark of Provincial Road 149.
First built in 1971 and rebuilt in 2005 by a charitable group, the bridge once served as an essential connection between Tongtou and Xiaoqixiang.
Walking across the wooden planks—creaking softly under our steps—and watching sunlight glint on the river below felt like slipping into a quiet pocket of history. Riders paused for photos, snacks, and a bit of rest. With the cool mountain breeze and gentle afternoon sun, time seemed to slow down.
Our bonus highlight of the day was the stunning Wannian Canyon.
Formed by thousands of years of water erosion, the canyon reveals dramatic V-shaped layers. Minerals within the rock create shifting colors as sunlight moves across the surface—like a giant abstract artwork sculpted by the Earth itself.
From above, the canyon resembles a colossal sculpture carved through time.
During dry season, some travelers even descend to the riverbed to photograph scenes reminiscent of a miniature Grand Canyon.
This afternoon, we quietly admired the raw beauty shaped by nature’s patient hands.
As the sun dipped westward, the team passed Tongxin Rest Stop and reached Caoling Hotel at 17:30. The surrounding mountains glowed with a soft golden hue, accompanied by a cool high-altitude breeze—an elegant close to our first day.
The mountains and rivers of Yunling × Chianan have only just begun to unfold.
