Locks, Bridges & Scenic Rides – The Great Miami River Trail | OHIO
Welcome to the 87.5 mile great Miami River Trail. Located in southwestern Ohio between the towns of Pekqua and Fairfield, this entirely paved greenway follows the natural contours of the Great Miami River and has a mainly gentle elevation with a few steep sections at various points. Along the way, you can expect to see multiple historic lock remnants, even one with an old canal boat, a covered bridge, and the Waco Air Museum, all accessible right from the trail. There are numerous trail heads with parking and restrooms, with some also offering water fountains and kayak launches. Along the route, riders will discover Dayton, the aviation capital of the world, as well as welcoming towns like Troy, where Treasure Island Park features a concert venue, boat house, restaurant, and tent camping right on the water. There are multiple connecting trails and spurs. And with a permit, you can camp in select metro parks to add even more adventure to this amazing trail. Thank you for the update from @elliswillis4240 on the lowhead dam and Treasure Island.
“In mid-August 2025 the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Army Corps of Engineers began dismantling the low head dam in Troy to return the river to its natural state. There is no longer a pool of water so Treasure Island is now dry-docked and there is not enough water to float tents.”
