八高線前面展望 高麗川→小川町 ＜Cabview Japanrail JR Hachiko Line Komagawa→Ogawamachi＞
This is a cab view of the JR Hachiko Line, which runs north and south through Saitama Prefecture. The Hachiko Line connects Hachioji Station in Tokyo with Kuragano Station in Saitama Prefecture, but the section south of Koma River Station is electrified, making it a more commuter line.
North of Koma River Station, the section remains unelectrified, with one or two diesel trains running per hour, making it more of a local line.
I’ve uploaded cab views of the Hachiko Line several times, but this is my first time riding the non-electrified section north of Koma River Station. Please note that diesel trains often have a slight jolt that isn’t present on regular trains.
This section of the line, despite its proximity to Tokyo, has long been beloved by rail travel enthusiasts for its idyllic atmosphere. In recent years, however, the number of houses along the line has increased. Photographed in August 2025

首都圏で唯一、ディーゼルカーが走る区間‼️でも災害時、電気が停まっても、車内の照明・冷暖房などが使用でき、緊急時の災害本部になります。沿線の市町村は、JRと車両運用の協定を結ぶ事を考慮 しても…。

A very beautiful, natural line! In stark contrast to this is the huge building complex in the background at the end of this journey (hotel, apartments?). It probably didn't exactly generate a storm of enthusiasm among the locals…! 😄

小学生の夏休み、この上なく優しく明るかった伯母に連れられ、八王子から群馬藤岡まで、八高線に乗った。
｢小川町に着いたわね、高崎まで、半分なの距離なのよ、小川町ね、藤岡までは、まだあるわねぇ。・・・お腹、空いた？｣
｢だいじょうぷ、空いてないよ｣
｢あら、そーお？ 私が空いたからってねぇ、私って、食欲が旺盛なのかしら、ね、ハッハッハァ！｣
車窓の彼方に、小高い山が連なり、草いきれが、どっと、開け放たれた窓から流れ込んだ。
その微笑みを絶やさなかった伯母も、随分前に、亡くなった。

La ligne Hachiko compte des sections électrifiées et non électrifiées, la gare de Komaigawa marquant la frontière entre les deux. Afin d’améliorer la commodité grâce à un service direct rendu possible par une électrification complète, les 17 municipalités situées le long de cette ligne ont formé une alliance en faveur de l’électrification. Des pétitions et des requêtes sont actuellement adressées à JR, à la Diète nationale et aux agences gouvernementales concernées pour promouvoir la mise à double voie et l’électrification de la ligne, et ainsi favoriser le développement économique des zones environnantes. Je n’avais même pas connaissance de l’existence de cette alliance jusqu’à récemment. Cependant, compte tenu des évolutions sociales à venir, il est à prévoir que diverses difficultés surgiront avant la réalisation du projet.
