That looks really gnarly Having begun my journey as a complete novice, I rode my motorcycle across North America before hopping over to Europe. From there I’ll make my way across Asia and down to Australia. New Zealand’s southernmost drivable point will mark the end of my journey. I’m calling it the Big Spiral and this is Act 4: A Lap of Ireland and the United Kingdom. Alright, good morning from Wales, United Kingdom. Today we are going south. Yeah, we’re actually kind of making our way through the UK. As you can see, the image on the screen should be clear. I downloaded my footage yesterday. You’ll have already seen it. and I realized all that rain from the day before yesterday completely fogged up the one lens. It’s always so disappointing when you go to look at your footage after and you see that. You’re like “No!” Oh look how green it is. So maybe I’ll just find a place to stop to show you on the map where we are and where we’re going. Oh it’s so gorgeous. Wales! I really like wales actually. It’s quite good. Here, this looks like a good spot. I’ll just show you where we’re going. okay so we’re in this kind of national park area, Snowdonia National Park I guess? we’re just like right here And I booked to Airbnb around here somewhere so anyways a bit of a distance to travel I am going to take the TET most of the way and let’s see what we can find I think there might be one or two things along the way to check out. Just a bit of an adventure day and I think with the weather the way it is it’s going to be a good one for sure and with my camera lens clear too that’ll be a positive. Yeah, onto the TET here I suppose Oh, getting smaller already Wow Like a tunnel in here Oh Oh god That was scary They didn’t try to stop either Oh, there’s the ocean over there Oh another corner, smaller road gravel? someone’s driveway? This one looks promising. I have to say look at that. Am I gonna ride in there? I hope so. Creek crossing Unsuitable for motor vehicle sign. That’s a good sign. Oh, yeah Oh steep! Good! Alright, let’s see how this goes. It’s a little rutted I saw a track over there. I should be up there I guess I can try. Just gotta roll off this edge here That looks really gnarly The poor clutch Oh, and now we’re… Look where I am Hello cows! Oh, it’s nice up here isn’t it? Oh, there’s a paved road up here!? That was a surprise. Wow. Oh, Wales, you’re so green! Wow, these people just live at the end of that lane. It’s quite amazing, isn’t it? And I just drive right past their their house. And back to the gravel. Oh, not a bad view I don’t know why I’m riding here. I could just ride it in the grass over there Oh yeah A little water splash Oh It reminds me of Australia mountain biking there They have wallabies which is basically like a small kangaroo and they just dart right in front of you Scary All right back on the main road well that was nice but it was also a lot of gates a lot of gates Cute little town. It’s kind of a touristy town isn’t it? Alright, I gotta get some gas Alright, got some gas. Let’s continue along our little journey here. Oh yes. Oh, it’s pretty in here. Oh, the smell is so good. It smells amazing here. But I’m looking forward to this because… Oh, another gate. Over there it looks like a wood lot. And I imagine there should be less gates there because they’re not going to be grazing sheep. I don’t know. That’s my optimistic point of view I suppose Oh, never mind, no wood lot. Back to the road. Oh this is a nice little track. No gates so far. Wow look at this rock slab. These guys. Oh they had nowhere to go. Should I try to pass them? Okay, just stop here, turn right. Oh no. Okay, oh one turned One turned, one turned, one turned. There you go. Oh yeah. Oh, there’s a gate. of this section well this is not bad Wow I don’t even know why this road is here you know Oh, this looks rough. Oh yeah Okay, I think I’ve had enough of the gates. I’ve got a cottage booked tonight and so I may just head to the cottage. There is a lot of gates. There’s another one. When I was in Scotland the problem was that the gates were locked. Now they’re not locked, they’re just… there’s just a lot of them. Alright. Oh, is he backing up? Yeah. We’re at the coast now. Man, there’s got to be head on collisions, you know? These roads, you know? He has to head back down a fair ways It’s time for a little break. It’s been a long day actually. I’ve been looking for a picnic table or something to sit at. It’s so nice to sit in the park actually. Today’s been a long ride. But yeah, I was actually just kind of, I was playing like my little language learning app. I’m learning French and I’m really enjoying it. Like it’s, I’m kind of hooked because they kind of like turned it into a game. And I’m learning French because I’m planning to go, I’m planning on a detour. But it’s not for the French speaking country you’re thinking of. It’s not for, well, France, the most obvious one this detour is going through some other French speaking countries and you might be thinking well with my route French doesn’t make a lot of sense and you’d be right so that’s why I’m telling you about this detour and yeah actually my route is it’s a little hard in terms of languages because it goes through so many different countries that all speak different languages I think Arabic would probably be a good one to learn but But otherwise, pretty much every country you go into, the language is going to change again. But French, with my detour, is a really good language to learn, I think. It’ll give me some good coverage, I think. But I’m not going to tell you where yet, because this is just a bit of a teaser. So yeah, I’m kind of excited, though, because it’s going to be an adventure for sure. Alright, so maybe we should get back on the road. I still I still have like an hour riding to do so I’ve got a cottage booked down south and need to get there. I think okay, let’s go Yeah I am. Nice little place. I often stay at the farm ones because they’re the cheapest but I actually like them the best because they’re so I guess remote and quiet. And then you get just looked the window here. I’ve got some friends over here. Hi, how are you? I’ve got some other friends here too. Well, I’ve just dragged all my stuff inside. Um yeah, it was a long day today actually, and I think, I don’t know, today was about the gates, wasn’t it uh it was just so many so many gates I think that’s that’s just.. i imagine as you go south the more you’re going to get that because it’s probably a bit more populated in the south i would think? but yeah it’s just uh i still enjoy out there but it is a little bit… i could do a little less gates but that’s just what it is that’s how the uk is it’s it’s all like pasture uh sheep pasture so they need to separate them and keep the sheep in their own pastures i suppose so but maybe… I just keep looking at the map because I have not updated the map in such a long time and actually like traveled almost half the length of the England since the last time I updated it so maybe I’ll just show you the whole thing right now so Ireland, Scotland, Hebrides and then last time we were in the Lake District so this is the Lake district. I’m just going to draw it quickly because I don’t remember exactly where I went. So from there, I ended up in Kendal and then it did a ride through this Yorkshire National Park which has, of course, lots of sheep again but there’s this kind of really nice mountain here. It was actually quite a good ride and then I ended up somewhere in Keighley, Keighley? Near Leeds and that’s where I installed the clutch, which is actually, I’ll talk about that in a second and then… what did I do? I think I just hopped on the highway somewhere past Manchester, past Liverpool and ended up down here and ended up… so this is Wales here and ended up in Snowdonia and I did something like that and then came down yeah i was just messing around in here, i have no idea what i did really and then today, basically i ended up… uh it’s i have no idea it was all tiny roads really and ended up oh i drew a line here i might have been more here but oh well uh to here i can’t even say this: ponta… i can’t even say it here, let me look it up one sec I believe it’s called, I listened to a Welsh person say it, “Pontarddulais”, something like that. Pontarddulais I’m probably really screwing it up. But anyways, yeah, the clutch. So I think it’s fixed. It worked all day. I rode on the highway. I did steep hills. Yeah, that one hill was quite steep. And it’s the exact kind of thing that you fry your clutch on. And yeah, it made it up the hill. yeah i’m quite happy about that um i have no idea what was wrong with the other clutch that the other two clutches i put in i have no idea what was wrong with those i my guess is something like the friction material wasn’t right or something like that but anyways it’s it’s fixed now and i don’t have to think about it anymore until the next clutch change In who knows how many more kilometers so i’m quite happy about that to be honest but yeah I guess we’ll end the video here thank you for watching It always helps if you subscribe and there’ll be a link on the screen to either the next video or another video that you might like so anyways thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next video bye!
