Heat. Heat. Hey, hey, hey. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Woo! Woo!
🚴♂️ Oct 12, 2025|Japan Shikoku Island Cycling Certification 12-Day Tour + Shimanami Kaido D10
Uwajima → Matsuyama (Returning to the 0KM Starting Point)
📏 Total Distance: Approx. 113 km
The morning mist still lingered over Uwajima — the final day of our grand journey around Shikoku.
After nine days of climbing mountains, crossing tunnels, and chasing coastlines, today we would ride north through Iyo City, returning to where it all began — the 0KM starting marker in front of the Ehime Prefectural Office.
It was not just an ending, but a beautiful rebirth.
From Uwajima, the dawn was soft, and the coastline shimmered in the early light. Riding through Tsushima and Ozu, the scenery gradually transformed — from misty valleys to sunlit seaside roads.
Our first stop was Michi-no-Eki Ton Ton-kan, famous for its hearty pork dishes, where we took a short break and shared laughter over coffee and snacks.
Back on the bikes, we passed the quiet mountain hamlet of Wara, surrounded by endless layers of green hills and golden rice fields swaying gently in the morning breeze.
By midday, we reached Nagahama Bridge, Japan’s only surviving horizontal rotating bridge. As it slowly turned to let ships pass beneath, the sea wind fluttered our jackets — a gentle reminder that our journey was nearing its final chapter.
Lunch was a simple yet heartwarming Japanese set meal — rice, fresh tai (sea bream) sashimi, and miso soup. Afterward, the route followed the coast, where the railway and road wove together in a dance of steel and sea. The sky cleared, and sunlight sparkled across the Seto Inland Sea like scattered diamonds — cheering us on toward the finish.
In the afternoon, we arrived at Shimonada Station, an unmanned train stop often called the station closest to the ocean.
From the platform, the tracks run straight toward the horizon, with the blue sea and sky melting into one. This spot has appeared in countless films, dramas, and on JR’s Seishun 18 Ticket posters.
Under the soft sunlight, the waves shimmered and broke at our feet. Everyone stood quietly by the iconic wooden bench — listening to the rhythm of time and reflecting on the memories of the past ten days.
As the sun began to sink, the team rode into Matsuyama.
In the distance, the familiar monument came into view — the 0KM Starting Point of Shikoku.
At that moment, cheers, laughter, and tears burst out all at once. The Japanese organizers awaited us with floral garlands, placing one gently around each rider’s neck.
It wasn’t just the finish line — it was a symbol of dreams realized and mountains conquered.
After ten days and nearly a thousand kilometers, every drop of sweat, every breath of wind, every uphill struggle had transformed into quiet, radiant strength.
This wasn’t only a test of endurance — it was a journey of the soul.
We measured the land of Shikoku not just by kilometers, but by emotion — feeling the warmth of every town and the kindness of every encounter.
From Kochi’s ocean breeze to Ehime’s sunset, from Tokushima’s rugged mountains to Kagawa’s aroma of Sanuki udon — every moment told a story, every turn of the pedal carried meaning.
When the garland rested on our chests, we understood:
The finish line isn’t the end — it’s the beginning of the next adventure.
