【沖縄】豪雨でレース中止!? | おきなわ7日間の旅 | ツールドおきなわ2024

This trip is Okinawa Island Okinawa Island has its own charm in each region, so I’ll give you a quick rundown of the 4 main areas The first one is the area where Naha Airport is located Kokusai Street is the heart of Naha City The name comes from the Ernie Pyle International Theatre, which was built in the centre of the street right after the war Rising from the ashes after the war, this 1 mile long street came to be known as the “Miracle Mile” These days, it’s one of the go-to spots for food hopping The second one is Third one is This area’s home to Junglia, a new nature based theme park that opened in 2025, where you can enjoy both excitement and luxury you won’t find in the city About a 30 min drive from there, in Motobu Town, you’ll find the Churaumi Aquarium home to massive tanks where you can see whale sharks gliding gracefully through the water Last one is “Yambaru” means a region where mountains stretch and forests spread out, it’s the northern area known for its subtropical forests and stunning coastline The star of the area is the Yanbaru Kuina. It’s about 30cm tall, with a red beak and legs, black and white stripes on its chest, and short wings that make it almost unable to fly I’ll be cycling mainly around the northern part of Okinawa Island let’s dive into the journey! 7 Nov 2024 Day1 Recon ride for Tour de Okinawa 2024 8 Nov Day2 Race Entry and check in for TdO I’m heading to the 21st Century Forest Gymnasium, the registration venue Registration done! The 140km race of TdO starts in Kunigami, so I’m heading there now completely soaked, but still rolling in 10 Nov The day before, a stationary rain band hit the northern area, causing landslides, road collapses, and evacuation orders The UCI Men’s Elite race did start, but parts of the course were completely flooded, and all categories, including the citizen races already lined up were eventually cancelled Since I was in Kunigami, I couldn’t even make it to the start line – DNS And just like that, my Tour de Okinawa 2024 has come to an end 11 Nov Where did all that heavy rain go? That day, there were plenty of cyclists who didn’t know what to do with all their leftover energy Time to reset and enjoy some cycling around Okinawa A cosy little coffee shop tucked away inside a small market in Motobu the perfect spot for a quick break Up ahead is the Hilton Sesoko Resort 12 Nov On the final day of Okinawa ride, I’ll be cycling through the southern area Morning The Kouri Big Bridge, the one I’d been really looking forward to On a sunny day, this is the kind of view I could’ve seen I’ll go ahead and add this place to my Rain Man Damage List that’s my personal list of spots I need to revisit because my bad weather luck ruined them Got a high-five from the roadside grass Tried to find some shelter from the rain, but there wasn’t a single roof in sight 13 Nov This time, I’ll pack up the bike and take the ferry back to Kagoshima Stretching is key I’m heading to the ferry terminal Last time, I stayed in a shared room, proper floor sleeping style but this time, I paid an extra 2,080 yen for a bunk room I must’ve been absolutely starving On the way back, I didn’t get seasick at all and before I knew it, Sakurajima came into view Thanks for watching till the end and if you enjoyed it, please subscribe!!
