（碑の立地と形状）
阿南市福井町大西の交差点を東へ折れて国道55号線から県道26号線に入り，蒲生田岬方面へ向かう。椿地川沿いをしばらく走ると，河口に近づいたところで椿泊と蒲生田との分岐点となる橋が見えてくる。南へ曲がって蒲生田方面へ向かう橋を渡ると，正面に神社の鳥居が見えてくる。鳥居の両脇に常夜燈が立っている。その台石に安政地震時の状況が刻まれている。左右の常夜燈は，ほぼ同じ大きさである。
（碑文の内容）
八幡宮の御前に大松があったが，1846(弘化3)年9月2日の夜に大風で倒れた。1854（嘉永7）年11月4日午前8時頃に地震あり，高潮が土提を越えて川筋の奥手まで上ったので，恐れて備えたがその日は何もなかった。翌5日は天気快晴で午後4時頃に大地震があった。午後6時頃，潮かさ見上げるばかりに来たので，老人を助け幼児を携え，牛馬，器財をもって逃げた。午後10時頃に大いに揺れた。流れた家9軒，浸水した家18軒，砂石が堆積した田30余町である。

Tsubaki Hachiman Shrine Eternal Night Lamp

(Location and Shape of the Monument)
Turn east at the intersection of Onishi, Fukui-cho, Anan City, leaving National Route 55 onto Prefectural Route 26, heading towards Kamoda Cape. After driving along the Tsubakiji River for a while, as you approach the river mouth, a bridge appears at the junction between Tsubakidomari and Kamoda. Turn south and cross the bridge heading toward Kamoda. The torii gate of a shrine comes into view straight ahead. Eternal lamps stand on either side of the torii. The base stones of these lamps bear inscriptions detailing the circumstances of the Ansei Earthquake. The eternal lamps on the left and right are nearly the same size.

A large pine tree stood before Hachimangu Shrine, but it was toppled by strong winds on the night of September 2, 1846 (Kōka 3). Around 8:00 AM on November 4, 1854 (Kaei 7), an earthquake occurred. A tidal surge breached the earthen embankment and reached deep into the riverbed. Though people prepared in fear, nothing happened that day. The next day, the 5th, was clear and sunny. Around 4:00 PM, a major earthquake struck. Around 6:00 PM, the tide rose so high it seemed to reach the sky. People rescued the elderly, carried infants, and fled with cattle, horses, and belongings. Around 10:00 PM, the ground shook violently. Nine houses were swept away, 18 houses were flooded, and over 30 cho of rice fields were covered in sand and gravel.
