Hi there, this trip is about located on the border of Gifu and Toyama Amou Pass is a linking Hida City and Shirakawa Village in Gifu It’s also part of Route 360’s toughest section In winter, the gates are closed and no one can pass through In years when heavy snow badly damages the road, it was open for only 40 days For 2025, Amou pass is completely closed, no reopening this year due to damage and ongoing repairs The reopening is expected in May 2026 So this time, it’s footage I filmed while riding in 2024 The route is about 150km, from Himi in Toyama to Takayama in Gifu After that, I’ll take the Limited Express Hida from Takayama Station back to Toyama Station That’s enough of an introduction Now, let’s get into the main part! G’day, Sushi Pedal here We’re in a part town sitting at the far west of Toyama This town is know for its “Winter Yellowtail” When the skies are clear, the stunning Tateyama Range appear beyond Toyama Bay This road is called the “Ishiribi Road” “Ishiribi” mean the lights used at night for squid fishing If you look closely at the streetlights lined up on the left, they’re shaped like Himi Yellowtail, and there are 270 of them in total We’ve arrived at Fushiki Port This was an important harbour for the Kitamaebune merchant ships Here we are at the Sho River, counted among Toyama’s seven major rivers We’ll head south along the Sho River The mouth of the river is straight to protect the function of Fushiki Port By using training walls to control the flow direction and speed, they reduced the silt entering the port, helping maintain the channel depth Morning! Once again, the traffic was minimal so the ride felt smooth and easy The reason is… In 2008, the section from Hida-Kiyomi to Shirakawago opened, completing the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, and long distance traffic shifted from R156 to the Expressway As a result, the traffic decreased So from Shogawa Gorge to Gokayama, It’s turned into a great cycling route G’day

富山県氷見市から岐阜県高山市へ——“天国の酷道”こと国道360号・天生峠を主役にした、約150kmの日帰り自転車旅。海の町・氷見を出発し、伏木港から庄川沿いを南下。庄川峡の絶景と合掌造り・菅沼集落をかすめ、道の駅白川郷で補給してから天生峠へ。ゴールは高山駅、そこから特急ひだで富山駅へ戻ります。
