As twilight falls over the coast of Kushimoto in Wakayama Prefecture, the **Hashigui-iwa Rocks** emerge like silent sentinels from the sea—**a mysterious line of over 40 stone pillars stretching 850 meters into the ocean**, resembling the stakes of an unfinished bridge.

Bathed in moonlight or the soft glow of dusk, the rocks take on an ethereal beauty, their shadows dancing on the waves.
Legend says that the famed Buddhist monk **Kobo Daishi** attempted to build a bridge to nearby Kii Oshima, but the construction was halted by a mischievous spirit.
Geologically, the formation was created 14 million years ago when magma rose through layers of mudstone, cooled, and was later revealed by erosion.
