JR Pass Journey Day 11 | Toyama to Nanto | Biking to a Historic Japanese Mountain Village
I’ve loved riding the trains this way and that with the JR Pass, but my legs had been itching to get back on a bike. I took the train to Jōhana Station (城端駅) from Toyama City (富山市) and rented a bike at a local shop near the station. 🚋
Train scenery is great, but there’s nothing like the feeling of being on two wheels, taking in the surroundings. My ride took me up a mountain pass into the valley where the historic Japanese villages of Ainokura (相倉) and the Gassho-Zukuri (合掌造り) are located. 🚲🛖
The villages are so small that it didn’t take long to ride through them, but I couldn’t stop admiring them from every angle as I walked and rode around. 🏞️
I’d definitely use an e-bike next time to reach these secluded villages, those slopes were no joke! 🚴⚡
