《脊上騎跡》下集|五天四夜縱切台灣島!踏越臺灣島嶼脊梁,書寫屬於大學生的青春的記憶!|解鎖系列 EP. 6 #Insta360X5

Good morning, bro Morning This is the breakfast voucher from the B&B Once we finish breakfast, we can go cycling Day 3 This is also our camera for today Insta360 X5 Are you rubbing the disc? Seems like it Adjust the rubbing disc Front wheel or rear wheel? Probably the rear Hold it A little bit Okay, try again Better now? Good Alright, OK Day 3, let’s go! Our Day 3 plan is to go explore Wujie Tribal Village Today’s route will be the most relaxing one of these three days So tired Yesterday’s fatigue is catching up Yeah We climbed 4600 yesterday Northern ascent to Wuling It was truly a tough day But we’re about to start the first climb Ascent 750 meters (but we’ll alter the route a bit) After watching the last episode of “Ridge Ride Chronicles” The previous one Thanks to your enthusiastic feedback we’ve launched the next episode right away! The last episode covered the first two days of this five-day-four-night trip From Taipei to Nantou The next three days we’ll keep heading to our destination which is the historic city in the south Tainan! If you haven’t seen the last episode be sure to check it out first! That way you can fully experience this epic trip with us Back to the point! Yesterday we just rode a total of 186 kilometers Climbed just over 4600 meters via the northern route to Wuling And we carried all our luggage for five days and four nights! Add the bike weight too It probably totals close to 20 kg! So today we specially arranged a more relaxing exploration ride Heading to Nantou’s Wujie Tribal Village to check it out So come with me and my NTU senior Hao-Chih and keep heading deep into the mountains This place already feels like a secret destination! C says he’s not feeling well today So we’ll just take it slow with him for now Even though he wasn’t very trustworthy yesterday That final part after 3158 Café I told him to power through Push through to the end! I’ll ride slowly now But then he really took off and left me behind Right now it’s 16% So steep… Whoa! A wall! Can you guys see this? Wall after wall… Is C about to give up? Wait, seems like he’s doing okay again Hey! Look, look! Aiya He really is not a trustworthy guy! Originally, we planned to ride to Wujie Village and then loop around to Aowanda But since we passed Renzhiguan yesterday we had originally planned to take another industrial road But at the time we were worried it might rain or the weather might be bad and the road conditions there would be dangerous So we changed to descend from Wushe But! The weather today is amazing! So we’re going back to the original plan taking the old industrial road to check out the views of Wujie Village Wujie Checkpoint Turn right here! See it? This fork in the road Oh! Here we go! Let me introduce today’s exploration route Like I said earlier we originally changed the plan due to road conditions and switched to the Wujie industrial road which is County Road 71 first passing through Zhuoshe Tunnel to Wujie Village then riding along County Road 83 to Wushe Reservoir and coming out at Wushe Finally, riding past Renzhiguan back to Puli town center Whenever we ride these secluded routes we usually check them first using Google Street View But today’s weather is just too good so we still wanted to follow our originally planned exploration route The original plan would take us past the Y-fork before Zhuoshe Tunnel and up another Wujie industrial road After climbing to the top there’s a 5.3 km descent with an average slope of -12% After reaching Wujie Village, we climb back to Nantou Today’s total distance is 37 km with a total ascent of 1230 meters It’s the shortest ride of the three days and also the only day we don’t have to carry luggage! We’re almost at the top here We’ve almost climbed 1000 meters already We’re at 1300m elevation now The road condition here is actually pretty decent We’ll soon reach a more challenging section It’s said that Dirty Formosa once rode this route Turn left in 100 meters Whoops This area x3 Oh x x, almost got chased by a dog They didn’t tie it up It wasn’t tied Was it? No idea Nope! I only sped up after seeing it wasn’t tied Take a shot x3 Wow! Whoa~ Tea plantation Absolutely beautiful We just rode up from there Watch your head A good view is worth the effort to reach Really steep Looks like we’re near the top This descent up ahead has lots of hairpin turns, be careful Take it slow later I’ll go in front Just came down from up there Finally reached this tea plantation A totally hidden paradise! Safe descent Now it’s time to test our skills Usually uncle practices this Even though uncle is only 19 XD Alright, our exploration ride for today is finished We originally planned to ride over 60 kilometers but in the end we chose this more challenging industrial road However, in conclusion—it was totally worth it! Alright, now we’re back at the B&B and we brought back a drink too Might take a nap later Tasty, tasty We’re having steak tonight (This restaurant owner really likes Justin Bieber’s songs too) Here’s our steak and croquettes cheese sticks and rice This was the sizzling noodles—we already ate half And this is Hao-Chih’s grilled chicken thigh Alright, go ahead and eat! Let the viewers eat first This part’s okay Cook it through But it’s still missing a flavor Rose salt Turn it back and forth a bit Eh~ See? Oh! There it is! Finally it’s Day 3 Time to show you all what gear we bring for a bike trip For bike equipment, head to toe there’s the helmet jersey shorts vest, raincoat, and socks Vest, raincoat, and socks These are all for use on the bike Besides that, after cycling we also go eat and shop and hang out So we definitely need some personal items too Like clothes, underwear and socks Toiletries are also important So we brought toothbrushes too And in addition on the bike we rely entirely on ourselves for long-distance rides So we need plenty of tools Like the basic CO2 cartridges CO2 cartridges, valve adapters tire levers, spare tubes and hex wrenches All of these are important On our final day we’re taking the high-speed rail back to Taipei So we need bike bags Just in case the HSR staff stops us It’d be awkward if we can’t board We’d have to ride back instead And another important thing since we’ve been doing long-distance rides we have two long-ride essentials One is chamois cream aka “ball cream” as we call it and sunscreen These two things help us ride long distances more comfortably And since we have so many electronic devices like bike computers, phones, and cameras we also need charging cables and power banks Those are super important too As a cycling YouTuber you can’t skimp on camera gear either This time I brought three cameras Which you’ve seen This small one is the Insta360 X4 I used before And this one I’m holding now Insta360 ACE PRO 2 Now all my camera gear is from Insta360 Absolutely awesome Chest strap This is the front mount for attaching the 360 camera Besides that, we also bought two instant noodles earlier And energy gels are super important too All these things go into our cocoon bags at the end How do you fit all this stuff in? Mainly, pack the stuff you won’t need at the bottom and the things you’ll use on top That way you minimize how often you have to dig everything out Alright, now let me introduce to everyone the final boss of my bike trip gear this time Insta360 X5! I’ve used before Insta360’s 360-degree cameras like this X4! The footage, size, and lens dimensions of these two are quite similar But after I got the Insta360 ACE PRO 2 I used the 360 camera less often Because with 360 cameras even in 4K the footage is spherical so if we crop a portion the image quality gets downgraded But this 360 X5 has dramatically improved and seriously impressed me It really amazed me Now I’ll explain one by one why this Insta360 X5 is the final boss of our bike trip gear! (The answer is revealed today) The luggage we packed yesterday is now in this one bag plus this handlebar bag First, we need to secure the base mount After passing through here lock it in place Alright, once it’s fixed you can loosen it up a bit so it’s easier to pull up Then, for this part like this press with your foot snap it up Once one side’s clipped the other side’s much easier When you hear a “click,” it’s locked in Finally, let’s adjust it We don’t want it touching the wheel so now we’ll loosen it a bit Okay, this side is tight now loosen the other side And take a look here you’ll see a gap appear here And if the straps are annoying you can wrap them around this area That way they won’t keep flying everywhere later Just wrap it neatly here OK Alright, we’re now ready to leave the B&B where we stayed for two days This B&B is called Puli Diary B&B Now we’re heading to Alishan which is our Day 4 journey Hope everything goes smoothly today and we don’t run into rain Today’s 130 km with 3000 m ascent Let’s go!!! Day 4, we’re continuing southward! Today we’re departing from Puli Diary B&B, where we’ve stayed for two days. We’ll first climb to Wenwu Temple along the Zhongtan Highway. Then we’ll ride past Sun Moon Lake to Shuili. Continuing south toward Zhushan. This is where the journey splits in two. In the second half, we’ll climb two major hills. The first one is on County Road 149, crossing the border of Nantou and Yunlin at Caoling. After a brief descent, we’ll tackle the final climb. That is the climb up to Alishan. Along County Road 149A + 169. These two climbs are packed into the last 40 km. In other words— we’ll be climbing nearly 2,000 meters in the final 40 km. Today’s route totals 122 km. With 2,730 meters of elevation gain. It’s going to be a day that starts sweet and ends bitter! Almost forgot! I was going to introduce you to the final boss of this trip— Insta360 X5. Let’s start with what everyone cares about most: image quality. This X5 is Insta360’s latest 8K panoramic camera. Equipped with AI triple chips and a larger image sensor the X5 can shoot high-quality 8K 30fps footage even in low light conditions. If it’s that good in low light, just imagine how it performs in normal lighting! Its Active HDR supports 5.7K at 30fps. What does this mean? HDR can preserve more highlights and shadow details even in backlit environments! On top of that, Insta360 is launching the biggest update ever for X5 users in summer 2025! They’ve added a new Tone Enhancement Mode which automatically boosts color performance during video export making footage more vivid and lively. Look at these two shots— you can clearly see how powerful the tone enhancement is! With all that said— if you want to capture every exciting moment of your athletic life like I do, go to the video description and click my link or use my promo code to make your purchase! We’re almost at Sun Moon Lake. Hang in there, C— you’ve got 3000 meters to climb today. We’re about to see Sun Moon Lake! This is it— the top of the Sun Moon Lake climb. Next, we’ll circle the lake, then descend to Shuili. And continue onward to Chiayi. Let’s go take a picture at Wenwu Temple! Alright, photo’s done. We can hit the road now. Let’s keep going toward Shuili. This is just amazing! Super happy! Oh no, the rain is coming. This is the first rain we’ve encountered on this trip. Shoot! Looks like there’s no escaping it today! But it’s fine. We packed all our important clothes in waterproof bags. Just like what you saw yesterday— the one under my tools! So we don’t need to worry about wet clothes~ Is that a duck? (Duck or goose?) That’s way too many! Drool uncontrollably dripped from the corner of my mouth. Looks like the climb is starting? Starting point, toward Caoling. It’s getting bright, the sun’s up. Let me answer a question a lot of you asked in the last video. I’m about to reveal— how exactly do we wash our clothes? Of course, we just wait for rain. Let the rain wash our jerseys clean. Then let the wind blow them dry! Alright, kidding— The first thing we do when we return to the B&B each day is change out of the day’s clothes and wash them using small, travel-size detergent bottles. Then we use hangers provided by the B&B to dry them either indoors or outside! Wow, unbelievable— this view! Looking at this, I really, really recommend everyone— if you get the chance, come ride these Yunlin routes! Last time, I rode the Meishan 36-turns event in February with my CRT teammates Xiao Zhou, Quan-ge, and Xiao Li. The Caoling we’re climbing now is actually near Meishan too~ Oh! And also! If you’ve watched both parts of this video and feel inspired and pumped— if you’re itching to go on your own bikepacking trip, feel free to use the Super Thanks to give a small tip to support us two college students. Peter Pan and Hao Zhi thank you again for the support! WOW!!! This view is insane! Good thing it rained just now— the mountaintop is misty with clouds, and now the sun’s come out too! Guys, my camera just now— accidentally fell again. So that’s why— you need this Insta360 X5 to make up for what a regular single-lens camera can’t capture. Because using a single-lens camera— you have to keep picking it up and moving it around, and it’s easy to accidentally drop it while you’re on the move. Or worse— cause some unnecessary danger. But with a 360-degree camera like this— you can use post-production to capture the angle you want. That way, nothing gets missed. We’re getting close to the top of Caoling. We’re almost done with the second major climb. But there’s one awkward thing I need to tell you— in the last 40 km with 2000 meters of climbing— there are absolutely no convenience stores… The last one is in Zhushan, right before County Road 149. So we’ve gotta give it our all! Pushing on with our own strength to reach Fenqihu! We made it, the summit! Thank you! Hairpin turn ahead! We’ve arrived, the summit. Thank you! Hairpin turn! Alright, this is the last one-kilometer rest spot before the Fenqihu climb. Taking a break here. I’m going to stretch properly now. Next is the last 15 km climb of the day. It’s almost 1000 meters of climbing. We really saved the final boss for the end. Today’s a sweet start and bitter end. Hao Zhi, bitter? Yeah, bitter. Too bitter! Keep going! Keep going! Almost there, only five kilometers left. I’m climbing to death here. But it’s really beautiful! Finally almost done with the climb. But Hao Zhi sprinted off in the last kilometer. That was really brutal. But thank goodness we’ve arrived. Zhuqi Township, we’re here!!! This is the summit. I hope Hao Zhi will wait for me. Hey, there he is! Damn, he really went all the way. Alright, time to descend! Descent, descent! It’s over, it’s over. Fenqihu! Yesterday we climbed up from the base of the mountain. The road, the tea fields, and those trees— they were absolutely breathtaking. Today I’m going to continue exploring the mountains with my own legs. But today, we’ll be taking a hiking trail. After we finish the trail and come back, we’ll grab breakfast at the 7-Eleven here, pack up our things, and head off to Tainan. Fenqihu bento. Here’s the entrance to our trail. We’re starting from here. Gotta climb up this way to reach a lookout point or something. We’ll start here by the café— climb from here! Head left first. Let’s take a look here. Let’s get going from here! Day five! We’re about to descend from Fenqihu now. Today will probably be the most relaxing day. Day five of “Ridge Ride Chronicles”— also our final day of this grand journey. As always, let’s start by introducing today’s route! Today we start from Fenqihu at 1600 meters elevation and descend into Chiayi County. Then we’ll take on the final climb of the trip and the only climb of the day — Guanziling. Finally, we’ll pass through Tainan City to reach our final destination: Shin Kong Mitsukoshi in Tainan. Why Mitsukoshi, you ask? Keep watching to find out! Today’s total elevation gain is the lowest of all five days. 128 kilometers total. 940 meters of elevation gain. Hey, you go first — I’ll record you. This place kind of has a European vibe. Just a little bit. Personally, I think the scenery here is way better than our last episode’s climb to Wuling from the north! Maybe it’s because we’ve ridden Wuling too many times— but the views here in Alishan whether it’s the tea fields or the richness of the vegetation’s color— they totally beat Wuling! I think next time we need to plan a secret route exploration of Hehuanshan. Ride some roads we don’t usually get to try. That’s the only way to broaden our perspective! I wonder which day of Ridge Ride Chronicles left the deepest impression on you? And which scenery was your favorite? Feel free to leave all your thoughts in the comments below. If you haven’t subscribed and turned on the bell— remember to turn on notifications ASAP so you won’t miss out on more epic ride stories like this! Also! If you really feel this was a special experience, please help share it with more people— share the unique joy of cycling with your friends! We’re starting the climb here— the first big climb of today. Guanziling. But honestly, compared to the past few days— this climb is a piece of cake. Only seven kilometers, with a 400-meter elevation gain. Since Guanziling is the last climb of the whole trip, the inner warrior in both Hao Zhi and me got fired up once again! So we decided to have a weighted one-on-one race in the last 2.4 km. But we were so focused on riding— we forgot to turn on the camera. We’ll show you the results in just a bit! Just finished the Guanziling climb. Had a showdown with Hao Zhi. Super exhausting. Check out the result (I won XD). Tainan City. We made it. Just a few steps away from our goal. Last 500 meters to go. Last few traffic lights. Let’s go, let’s go! I’m overheating here. Tainan’s sun is just too enthusiastic. Can’t handle it anymore! Oh! I see our destination! Shin Kong Mitsukoshi!!! I’m done. Our food is here. Let’s dig in! Sorry, I was too focused on eating (too hungry). Completely forgot to show you guys what exactly we ate XD. We finished eating and came straight out. Now we’re heading to the High Speed Rail station, back to Taipei— and wrapping up our five-day journey. “Ridge Ride Chronicles” — mission complete! This trip was undoubtedly a very special experience for the two of us college students. It all started as a random idea— our busy schedules just happened to align one day, and so we began to plan, discuss, and prepare. And then— we just set off. We didn’t want to follow the usual route. We wanted to create our own unique style. Different from a typical bike trip, we chose to rely on each other— pedaling every mile with our own legs, experiencing each view, every stretch of road— living out our very own unique adventure. Let’s take a look back on the past few days— the epic routes we crossed together. Day one, we started from National Taiwan University, and rode all the way to Datong, Yilan. We passed through the Pingxi Ancient Trail and had a blast playing in hidden streams. Then descended into Yilan on Route Yi-1 and kicked off our journey with a bowl of taro shaved ice. Day two brought the widely feared challenge— Wuling from the north. Climbing 4600 meters in a single day— the toughest day of the entire trip. Day three was our rest day. We put down our heavy packs and arrived at Wujie Tribe in Nantou for a day of exploration. Along the way, we rode Dirty Formosa’s legendary route and enjoyed a thrilling, technical descent at Guafo. Day four, the journey continued south. We visited Wenwu Temple at Sun Moon Lake, taking in stunning views of lake and mountain. Then descended to Shuili and Zhushan— and got hit with the first rain of our trip. But in the final 40 kilometers, the skies cleared. We took on two final climbs back to back— Caoling and County Road 149A to 169. Eventually reaching Fenqihu in Alishan. On the final day, we descended from Alishan at 1600 meters— passing through Guanziling— and finally arriving at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi in Tainan. In these five days and four nights, we crossed the central mountain spine of Taiwan— and wrote a unique memory of our youth. Special thanks to my amazing partner Hao Zhi— who stuck with me through all the challenges and surprises. Looking forward to your return from exchange in Switzerland— so we can once again enjoy the freedom and joy of riding. “Ridge Ride Chronicles” — and that’s a wrap. I’m Yonghe’s Peter Pan— See you next time! Bye-bye! See you next time. Bye!
