Пол-Японии на велосипеде | Ветер в поле, храмы, японские хрущевки. Нагоя – Сэкигахара | Часть 11

See you later. Noriko-san is heading to work, while I continue my journey. Why didn’t they pave this road? Not cool! I need to get to the other side. There should be a bridge up ahead somewhere. Strong headwind today, but I’m in no hurry. No strict schedule, so I can take my time. At least there are no traffic lights – that’s good. Might actually be faster this way than taking main roads with traffic lights. You spend more time waiting than moving. Pass one intersection – and immediately stop at the next one. There’s the bridge. This is what city riding is like. Just got onto a proper road and immediately hit this. At least I don’t have to stop at every traffic light. I’ll go this way. The sidewalk is way too crowded over there. See what I mean? Pass one light – immediately hit another. Stop again. What average speed can you even maintain here? That one turns green up ahead but by the time I get there it’ll be red again. You just stand there forever… and stand… and stand… The rice here is growing, almost ready for harvest. Over there it’s still pretty small though. Traffic light after traffic light. A park with some structures on little islands. Wonder what that’s about? And no bridges to them either. Let’s check out the park. Not many parks in this rural area. What is this thing anyway? Whoa, look at this plant! This thing here… Is it a tree? Or not a tree… Let’s see what it’s called. At least take a note. I’ve seen this in Japanese Instagram photos. It blooms. Some dude… Totally lost me. Some complicated poetry. Found a small Shinto shrine along the way. Pretty decent one. There’s a pond, and a Japanese maple. Not red yet. Leaves just starting to turn slightly. Jorō spider. What do they call it… Jorō-gumo. Huge one! Their webs are crazy strong, I tell you! A bamboo stick bends from their web! No wonder – there’s a Buddhist temple right next to it too. They’re often neighbors. Usually they sit… Something golden in the doors. Check that out. Another building. Carp swimming – can’t be without them! Cosmos flowers blooming here – autumn flowers. Today’s wind is about 7 m/s headwind. Whatever, at least it’s not raining. Some Inari shrine appeared along the way. Local village shrine… Let’s see… Just passing by… Foxes, foxes, where? Oh there they are! Little kitsune over there. They’re sitting here in their little house. These aren’t kitsune. Some other deity lives here. No idea which one. At least it’s not raining. Though it might tomorrow. Maybe not all day but something’s coming. I’m heading that way. Can already see the mountains. Sekigahara over there. Basically going northwest. Will cross the mountains to Lake Biwa. Then we’ll see depending on mood and weather. Might even go around the other side where I haven’t been. I’ll decide on the spot. Best strategy is usually to find a river going my way. Roads often run along them. Best kind of road. No traffic lights or intersections. Great views too. Nice scenery to enjoy. Going up here, but we need to go that way. Only problem today is the headwind. Northwest. Probably last all day. Pretty red bridge. Can already see the pass over there. That’s probably where I’m headed, if I’m not mistaken. Town called Sekigahara. From Sekigahara, Lake Biwa isn’t far. Open space… This wind today! Forecast said 6 m/s but no way it’s just 6. More like 10 if not stronger, damn. All headwind. Typical, what else is new. Probably won’t take this pass here. Think I’ll try the neighboring one instead. Pretty sure I came this way last year if I remember right. Haven’t been that way yet. We’ll see if there’s any difference. Oh man… Okay… let’s go left… Go around those hills and reach Sekigahara. Only about 15 km left. Getting dark. Not fun in mountain darkness. Though maybe the wind will die down by evening… Mountains might block it some… Out here on the plain it really gusts. Should be calmer beyond the mountains. Some factory, cutting granite maybe. Cutting something… Shifting north. That hill there – I’ll go around from the north. Gets lower over there. Totally reminds me of our Khrushchyovka apartments. Japan has these too – mass-produced cheap housing. Called “danchi” or something like that… Let’s see how the entrances are set up. Same concept as ours, just more open here. Japan’s warm so they don’t bother much with walls and windows. Otherwise just like our Khrushchyovka apartments and such. All similar – apartments, five stories. Top floor has… what’s that, some closet? Closets everywhere. Probably technical stuff. Oh, they turned on the evening chime. 5 PM. They tell elementary and middle schoolers: “Time to go home, be careful on your way” and such. 5 o’clock. 8:05 PM. I’m in Sekigahara town, same spot where I stayed last year with that German guy. Trusted location, didn’t take long to find. Right here on this little clearing. Let me try the light. Still can’t see anything. These cryptomeria trees here. Coniferous type… Not sure what family they belong to… I think cypress family if I remember right. Got some discounted smoked mackerel and beer. Sitting and relaxing. Nice weather. About 19°C now. Time for dinner. Not super hungry but beer and fish sounds good. Then sleep. Weather looks okay tomorrow morning. But rain expected by afternoon, all night, and probably next morning too. So wake up early, make some progress toward Lake Biwa, maybe hole up somewhere to wait out the rain. Should find a comfortable spot by the lake. That’s the plan. Flashlight at max, can’t get any brighter. Edge of a small grove. Some unusual grass we don’t have back home. Trains passing there. And a road. A bit noisy but okay, pretty far away. Forgot to mention: did 67 km today. Strong headwind. Norwegian forecast said 6 m/s but no way – more like 10 m/s. Made slow progress but okay. Still going. Main thing is to keep moving. Hanging in there. Just gotta keep going. Well…
