This video features a cycling route from Shirakawa Lake in Yamagata Prefecture to Yonezawa Station. Filmed in early May 2025 🚴 A spring ride along Shirakawa Lake, where the water level has risen due to snowmelt, and the Shirakawa River. Located in Iide Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Shirakawa Lake is a high-altitude artificial lake formed by the Shirakawa Dam. With a surface area of about 270 hectares, the lake reveals a mystical “submerged forest” during the spring high-water season. 【Green Submerged Forest】
As fresh green leaves begin to sprout, they reflect on the lake surface, creating a vivid green scene (Mid-April to Mid-May). Compared with the map in the top-right corner, you can see how the water level has risen due to snowmelt. ◀◀◀ Toward Yamagata Prefectural Route 4 We’re heading toward Iide along Yamagata Route 4 🚴 It’s early May, but there’s still snow on the ground ❄️ Shirakawa Lake Map Map of the full course Elevation Elevation gain, speed, slope Distance Shirakawa Lake The fresh greenery reflects off the water, making the lake surface appear a clear green. A roofed structure that protects roads or railways from falling rocks, avalanches, or landslides from slopes. Unlike tunnels, these structures are usually open on both sides or on the valley side. What a beautiful view♪ Nakatsugawa Bridge Nakatsugawa Bridge Protective gallery (Fukudō) The road continues along the edge of Shirakawa Lake Jet trail in the sky ✈️ Shirakawa Dam Shirakawa Dam From here, there’s a gentle descent of about 5% for a while. Byōbu-iwa Tunnel (Folding Screen Rock Tunnel) Tried adding a “comic book” style effect♪ The reflection on the goggles makes it tricky to see 😅 With the snowmelt mixed in, the water looks like a milky green. Shirakawa River The scenery begins to change slightly from this point on. ▶▶▶ Turning onto Route 113 Roadside Station “Iide” 🍵 (Might’ve messed up the transition edit…) A gentle uphill slope 🚴 The scenery shifts again around here. A steady climb continues, around 3–7% grade 🚴 Almost at the top of the climb From here, it’s downhill for a while♪ ◀◀◀ Mostly flat Near Kawanishi Town, located on the western side of the Okitama Basin in southern Yamagata Prefecture Looks like it’s just before rice planting season 🌾 This road is such a joy to ride on 🚴 Suminoe Bridge / Mogami River Arrived at JR Yonezawa Station 🚴
