For some reason, this roadside station doesn’t have any alcohol, not even local beer. I guess I’ll just buy some konjac as a snack. Alright, tonight I’m staying on the highway. Apparently, there are a few “highway hotels” across the country, and since there seems to be one in Sano, I decided to book it. (I’ve always wanted to try staying at one.) I’m heading back to Tokyo tomorrow, so I want to enter from the Tokyo-bound entrance. By the way, you can also access the hotel from the Fukushima-bound entrance, but be careful, you can’t use the hotel if you’re not using the highway (Tohoku Expressway). Alright, I’ve arrived at the Sano Service Area on the Tohoku Expressway. This service area is undergoing some major construction, huh? Where’s the hotel parking? For now, let’s go to the motorcycle parking area. Huh, here? That’s tough! I’ll park here for now and ask the hotel about the parking. It’s hard to park here. I asked the hotel about the parking! They said I could leave it in the motorcycle parking or park it in the hotel’s parking, so I think I’ll park it in the hotel’s parking today. It seems the areas with yellow cones are the temporary hotel parking spots. I’ll park it somewhere I can see it from the hotel. Arrived safely! By the way, if there wasn’t construction, there’d be a dedicated parking lot behind the hotel. I wish I could have parked there. Even so, the Sano Service Area is undergoing some massive construction. Ta-da! I can see the hotel! It’s right next to the service area. Today, I’m staying at “Hatagoya.” “Hatagoya” is a motel-style hotel common in America,
offering simple, bare-bones lodging with just the essentials. Check-in. Alright, today’s room is room 21. Since I’m a solo female traveler, the owner chose a corner room with no one next to it. So kind! The key is a bit tricky, haha. Well, I’ll get used to it. Wow! It’s spacious! Before the room tour, I’ll check if I can see my bike. Okay, I can see it! Ok, ok! Now, I’ll show you today’s room. Ta-da! It’s super spacious! You take off your shoes here. The room is about 15 tatami mats in size. It also has a closet. This is, you know, Like this, right? See? Perfect. The shelf above… It had extra pillows in it. And here’s the bathroom and washroom. The bathtub also looks spacious and comfortable. And across from the bath is the toilet. It’s not a unit bath. The toilet is clean too. And it has a bidet! This is comfortable. The bed firmness is… A little firm. Isn’t it a bit too luxurious to have two queen-sized beds? The price for one night is 6,000 yen. The brochure suggests it might be 4,400 yen during certain periods? The breeze feels nice. I don’t need the air conditioning today. There’s also a large mirror, so it’s fine for women to do their makeup. There are also a lot of power outlets, so I recommend it for YouTubers too, haha! Came to get my welcome drink. It’s certainly basic, but 6,000 yen for this is a very reasonable price in today’s world. Recently, business hotels and the like have become very expensive due to inbound tourism. Anyway, isn’t it amazing that there’s a hotel on the highway?
Perfect for long motorcycle tours and trips! I’m going to get dinner. Since this side is under construction, I’ll eat at the Sendai-bound area. There’s a stylish spot here. The sky is wide Apparently, you can see Mt. Fuji from here. Can’t see it today. If you come here, you just have to eat “Sano Ramen.” “Sanoya,” this is the place. I’m hungry! The Sano Service Area on the Sendai side is nice and clean. Alright, dig in! Delicious!! You can have a meal like this, and it’s super convenient for staying during a motorcycle tour. It’s a bit pricey, but you can refuel here, and I wish there were more hotels like this. Look! The chashu (braised pork) is huge! Thanks for the meal! I’m going to check out the souvenir shop for a bit. Lemon milk (Tochigi’s specialty) french fries… High in fat, haha! Red ginger lotus root chips. Super low in fat! Purchased! Oh no, I ended up buying “Lemon Milk x Hello Kitty” socks. By the way, to get to the hotel from the Sendai-bound area, you have to climb these stairs, so it might be a bit tough for those with a lot of luggage. I really like this motel-like hallway. Yep, my bike’s there! Bad with keys I’m home. I’m going to take a bath. If this place had a hot spring like Ashigara Service Area (Tomei Expressway), it would be perfect, wouldn’t it? Haha! Come to think of it, Ashigara also had accommodation. The bathtub is spacious enough to stretch out my legs, it’s the best. Got out of the bath and changed into my pajamas! From here, I’ll mention a few points that people might have different opinions on, but “Hatagoya” prides itself on being basic and affordable, so pajamas are not provided. However, you can rent them for 200 yen, so I came prepared to rent them from the start! Those who sleep in just their underwear might find it a good, cheap option, haha! Oh, right, and since this is on the highway, they don’t sell alcohol! I knew that, so I bought some beforehand at a convenience store. After a motorcycle ride, it’s always beer, you know? This konjac is delicious. The texture is amazing. By the way, the Wi-Fi is super fast! I can watch YouTube without any stress! They don’t provide toothbrushes either, so you have to buy one or bring your own from home. It’s a bit inconvenient for riders who want to minimize their luggage, but it’s eco-friendly, so it can’t be helped. Well then, everyone, see you tomorrow. Good night. Good morning, everyone. I slept really well. I’m getting better, haha! I’m going for a morning walk and to buy coffee. The front desk isn’t open from 11 PM to 7 AM, so you have to enter and exit through the back door. Once the service area construction is finished, you’ll be able to park cars and motorcycles here. There’s no kettle in the room, so I have to go buy coffee or tea early morning and late at night, but well, if I think of it as a morning stroll, it’s not bad, haha! I was planning to make some detours on the way back today, but there’s a chance of scattered showers in the afternoon… In the morning, they offer bread service. The croissants are apparently baked at the hotel from the morning, and when I was carrying my luggage to the bike, they smelled amazing! I usually leave early and don’t often eat breakfast at business hotels, but today, I’m taking my time because I want to try the freshly baked bread, haha! Seriously, the croissants are too delicious!!! You definitely have to try them. There were three types of bread in total, along with juice and coffee. Since there might be scattered showers in the afternoon, I think I’ll leave a bit early. It was my first time staying on a highway, but it was much better than I expected. For only 6,000 yen for one person, with such a spacious room, that’s cheap! And with freshly baked bread for breakfast, this price is greatly appreciated. Since I often stay overnight before long-distance tours, I’d definitely like to actively use this hotel when I go touring in the Tohoku region. Alright, let’s go. You can get right onto the highway as soon as you leave the hotel, haha! It feels a bit strange! If you ever get the chance, please try staying here too. Well then, I’ll head back to Tokyo, making some stops along the way. Fukusuke is staying home alone.
