2025 Hokkaido Touring April 26, 2025 Good morning, this is Naka. Starting today, we will finally be riding in Hokkaido. Today’s route. Now, we are setting off. Last night, after arriving in Tomakomai by ferry, we stayed at the New Tomakomai Prince Hotel “Nagomi”. There is a covered motorcycle parking lot on the first floor of the hotel. The hotel entrance is right next to the bicycle parking lot. Thank you for your hospitality. The weather on the first morning in Hokkaido is sunny. It is early morning in Tomakomai city. It is just after 6 o’clock. There is still little traffic and it is comfortable to ride. Something crossed the road. The first deer spotted in Hokkaido this year. We will drive safely, being careful of animals jumping out. Lake Shikotsu on the right. Bifuki Pass . Shikotsu Bridge. Hokkaido in late April. There is still snow on the mountainside. Dinosaur spotted . In front of Mt. Shiribetsu. Now we are heading for one of the places we wanted to go on this trip, the Niseko Panorama Line. Yesterday The Niseko Panorama Line was just reopened after its winter road closure on April 25th. I am looking forward to it and excited to see it. Roadside station 230 Rusutsu. Turn right and head towards Niseko. The peak is hidden by clouds, but Mt. Yotei comes into view. Mt. Yotei is in front of us and is impressive despite being covered in clouds. Niseko Ohashi Bridge. The amount of snow on the mountainside is increasing. We are entering the Niseko Panorama Line. According to the weather forecast a few days ago, the weather forecast for today’s Niseko Panorama Line was cloudy with rain, but blue skies have appeared. From here I would like to go almost uncut for about 5 minutes. Let’s enjoy the snowy scenery of the Niseko Panorama Line together. A view that can only be seen at this time of year. What kind of view awaits us up ahead? This view is amazing. Snowboarding! It must feel great to ski in this scenery.Next year I’m planning to tour Hokkaido while camping in the warmer months, and with such spectacular views awaiting me, I’m wondering if I should come back at this time of year again.Did you enjoy the snow-covered Niseko Panorama Line? Next, I head for the Shakotan Peninsula.I’m on National Route 229 and have entered the Shakotan Peninsula.I find a roadside station and will take a short break.Roadside station Oskoi! I thought it was a roadside station with an unusual name, so I looked it up and found out that ” Oskoi!” comes from “Osukoi”, a call used to coordinate the movement of oars when rowing boats used for herring fishing, and “Kamoenai” comes from “Kamuinai”, which means “beautiful mysterious valley” in Ainu. Now, I’m heading towards Kamui Cape. I wonder if I’ll be able to see the Shakotan Blue from Kamui Cape . The pleasant road along the coast continues. Look ahead to Kamui Cape. I’m just a little further to Kamui Cape now comes into view. 1.3km to Kamui Cape. Arrived at Kamui Cape parking lot. I’ve seen many people’s social media and I’ve always wanted to come here . My heart is beating fast. From here I’ll start on foot. The wind is strong. Blown by the wind, the entrance to Shakotan Blue comes into view . What! I was looking forward to the road being closed due to strong winds , but it can’t be helped for safety reasons. I’ve decided to try again next year. I pull myself together and head to Cape Shakotan next. I stroll around the parking lot at Shimamuki Beach, Cape Shakotan. Shimamuki Beach, one of the “100 Best Beaches in Japan”, is the only spot where you can go down to the water’s edge among the cliffs. When you go through this dark tunnel, the vivid sea suddenly appears below you. The road is also closed here due to the collapse of the fence by an avalanche. I would like to come back here when the fence is repaired. I will go to the lighthouse. 0.8km to Shakotan Demisaki Lighthouse. I returned from Shakotan Demi Lighthouse. I wonder if I should eat something. Everything looks delicious. I had a grilled fish (Atka mackerel) set meal. Thank you for the meal. It was very delicious. My first day in Hokkaido . I was able to enjoy the scenery unique to this season and set a goal for my next Hokkaido tour, so it was a very fulfilling first day. I arrived at the inn. Thank you everyone for joining us today.
