Things to know before going sightseeing in Hakodate Did you know that you can see fireworks from Mt. Hakodate? Did you know that there are times when shadows appear in the view of Goryokaku? There are many things that you learn for the first time after you go on a trip. Hello, I’m Miho. If you watch this video to the end, you will have fewer regrets after traveling to Hakodate. I will also tell you how to get cheaper parking at Goryokaku Tower. I’ll also give you information on the cheapest prices at that “popular store.” So let’s start this video right away. “Things I wish I knew before going sightseeing in Hakodate” Things I wish I knew before going sightseeing in Hakodate, part 1. I climbed Goryokaku Tower, but the problem was that I was too worried about the shadows. Goryokaku is one of Hakodate’s most popular tourist destinations. This place is famous for its beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. Another fun way to enjoy this place is to climb the Goryokaku Tower and enjoy the view from above, or take a walk in Goryokaku Park. There are also delicious gourmet foods around Goryokaku. However, you need to be careful as there are times when shadows will appear in the view of Goryokaku. Don’t you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Goryokaku? In the morning, the shadow of the tower will not be visible, but in the afternoon, the shadow of the tower will get closer. If you are planning a sightseeing trip to Hakodate, be sure to visit Goryokaku Tower in the morning. If you go to Goryokaku in winter, we recommend visiting here at night as it is lit up. Next, we will introduce ways to enjoy walking around Goryokaku Park. Goryokaku Tower costs 1,200 yen per adult, but Goryokaku Park is basically free, so we recommend it. How to Enjoy Goryokaku Park Part 1: Visit the “Musha Gaeshi” Goryokaku was also used as a base by Toshizo Hijikata, who supported the Shinsengumi during the Hakodate War, and was built using various techniques to protect against enemies. One example is this “Musha Gaeshi”, where the wall runs along the wall to prevent enemies from climbing. Certainly, it seems like it would be quite difficult to climb a wall of this shape. After seeing such history, we will head to the next recommended place. How to enjoy Goryokaku Park Part 2: Touch the stone monument of Takeda Hizaburo. Hizaburo Takeda, who designed Goryokaku, is known for his excellent design. Therefore, there is an urban legend that if you stroke his monument, you will become smarter. Rumor has it that because of this, students on school trips to Hakodate touched his head so often that the monument became slippery. Please visit here and touch his head yourself. How to Enjoy Goryokaku Park Part 3: Visit Hakodate Magistrate’s Office In Edo itself, after the national isolation ended, this place was used for negotiations with foreign countries. By knowing the history of Hakodate at that time, you will be able to enjoy sightseeing in Hakodate even more. Let’s go! picture? The history is nice, but do you want me to tell you how to get cheaper parking at Goryokaku? I got it. To go to Goryokaku Tower or the park, you basically need to park your car at the nearby Yueryo parking lot. A spacious and easy-to-park parking lot is available at the Hakodate City Art Hall parking lot. The normal price is 200 yen per hour, so if you stay for 2 hours, it will cost 400 yen. However, if you go to the nearby Hokuyo Museum, you can get a stamp that allows you to park for free for 2 hours. The entrance fee to the Northern Sea Museum is extremely cheap at just 100 yen, which is rare these days, so it would be a loss if you don’t go. If you found this helpful, please subscribe to the channel now. The North Sea Museum itself is a fun facility, so I highly recommend it. Part 2: Things I wish I knew before going sightseeing in Hakodate. A story about how cheap donuts were. Everyone loves Mr. Donut, but they are only available in Hakodate City and sold at a super low price. (Except for the 1st section of products) For those who have gone to Hakodate and can’t resist eating donuts, please read this as a piece of knowledge. I love Mr. Donuts, so I went to Hakodate and ate a lot of donuts. There are approximately 1,000 Mister Donut stores across Japan, but only in Hakodate City are they sold at a special price. Donuts that cost 162 yen are sold for 97 yen. Here too, the 162 yen donut is now 108 yen. Apparently, this is because Mr. Donut has a business partnership with King Bake, a long-established bakery in Hakodate. For those of you out there who don’t know King Bake, you’re really missing out, so please watch this video. Things I Wish I Had Known Before Going Sightseeing in Hakodate Part 3: Choosing a Hotel Was Too Difficult Hakodate is the city with the second largest number of hotels in Hokkaido. It’s hard to decide where to stay.I, too , couldn’t decide which hotel to stay at, so I ended up staying at more than 20 hotels.I’d like to introduce three hotels by genre that I’m glad I stayed at. JR Inn Hakodate is recommended for people who like hotels near stations. It is almost directly connected to Hakodate Station, so there is no problem even in rain or snow. The hotel was just opened in 2020, so the interior and exterior are very beautiful. There is a separate bath and toilet, and a large public bath with a train view. Another interesting point is that they have conveyor belt sushi for breakfast. I don’t see any particular drawbacks, so if it’s available, it’s worth making a reservation! On Yahoo Travel, the lowest price per night is 6,000 yen (as of April 2025) Hotels recommended for hot spring lovers Yunokawa Prince Hotel Nagisatei Hakodate City is home to Yunokawa Onsen, which is said to be one of Hokkaido’s three major hot spring villages, but there are so many hotels that you may be confused. In any case, I recommend a hotel facing the Tsugaru Strait. In particular, Nagisatei is a place where you can bathe in the best hot springs, which are like a combination of the Tsugaru Strait and an open-air bath. The dinner buffet is also great, as you can enjoy all-you-can-eat sushi freshly made by the chefs and enjoy a view of the ocean. I can’t fully introduce it here, so if you want to know more, please watch this video. This is recommended for people who are looking for a cheap hotel even if it’s a little far from Hakodate Station. “Kokotel Hakodate”. It takes about 15 minutes by car from Hakodate Station, but the price is extremely low at around 1,000 yen per person per night. (Depends on the season) Being close to Goryokaku is a big plus. Isn’t it dirty because it’s cheap? You might think so, but it was rebranded in 2023, and the inside of the hotel was very clean. As expected, the rooms are not large, but it is perfect for people who want to do a lot of sightseeing when they go to Hakodate, and who don’t mind a hotel as long as they can sleep in it. We will also explain the details in this video, so if you are interested, please watch it as well. Things I Wish I Had Known Before Going Sightseeing in Hakodate #4: The Timing of Climbing Mt. Hakodate Was Too Difficult Mt. Hakodate is known as one of the world’s top three night views, and you can enjoy it any time of the day, night, summer, or winter, but there are some things to keep in mind. The traditional way to enjoy it is to see the night view. anytime. Beautiful scenery spreads out. An extremely rare view is the night view of fireworks. It’s very unusual to be able to look down at fireworks from above instead of looking up at them from below. picture? Even if you say that, aren’t fireworks displays rare? That’s true, but every December there is an event called Christmas Fantasy where fireworks are set off every day, so if you’re going to Hakodate in the winter, it’s a must-see. Additionally, private cars are normally restricted from 5pm to 10pm, and in order to climb Mt. Hakodate, you must pay 1,800 yen per person to use the ropeway. However, there are some tricks to climbing Mt. Hakodate with your own car. If you want to know, please watch this video. How was it? 7:32 確かにJRイン函館は部屋が使いやすかった。
