Offbeat Japan: Planes, Trains, Bikes… and Demons? | A Town Tourists Miss | 日本の穴場観光スポット

In today’s episode, we have planes and trains and [Music] demons. Good morning. We’ve got a busy day ahead. We’re heading out to Kasai where we’ll hire some bikes and ride around an open air World War II museum before getting on a single carriage train and heading to a unique lunch spot. Afterwards, we’ll hire some more bikes and hunt down some mythical creatures. So, let’s get on the road. [Music] The other thing you can do when you come to the museum is hire some bicycles. So, we’re going to take these bikes, follow the map down along the airfield to some air raid shelters, Bombay, and even anti-aircraft machine gun seat. Right to go. Let’s do it. Let’s go. You just follow the colored path. [Music] What we got here? [Music] Wow. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Oh, you ah. [Music] So this was the the guard post at the entrance to the airfield. [Music] Oh [Music] god. So this was the womb. All right. [Music] Well, that was a great little bike ride. So cool going through the countryside there and checking out the air raid shelters and the machine gun nest and Bombay and such a relaxing ride. So if you ever come here and you’re not too confident on a bicycle, this is a great place because no traffic. I think we saw one one car. Um yeah, very relaxed ride through the countryside and for we you could hire bikes for the day. I think they were like 1,100 yen or something for the day, but we just got for 2 hours and it was only 500 yen for the two hours. Um, and you can easily go down there, have a drink, have a look at the imp placements, and get back in that two hours. It’s not far at all. So, yeah, highly recommend it. All right, now we’re off to our next destination. We’re going to the Hojo Railway, which is just a onecar little railway. I think it only has eight stops. Eight stops along the railway. So, we’ll jump on the little train, head down to the station where they’ve turned the inside into a hot dogy. But the hot dogs are a little bit different as you’ll see when we get there. All right, let’s go. I think my followup now. [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. [Music] [Music] I have to find my roof. [Music] So, we’re at Hokuchi Station. So, it’s only was it four stops from Hojo Machi. And here in the station, they have uh some weird looking hot dogs. So, we’re going to have uh a burger hot dog apparently. So, we’re going to check out the menu. They smell good. So, I got the mixed burger hot dog thing. Got a couple of patties and a bit of frank. Let’s give it a go. Oh. M. M m. Nicely tasted bun. A bit of mustard in a burger. Really good. What’s your rating? Oh. Oh. Eight out of 10. Oh, that’s pretty good. The meat patty said it’s nice and juicy. Nice bit of salad at the bottom. Salad on a hot dog. Not sure how I feel about that. Oh, that’s good. N out of 10. Oh, nice. Okay. During the Second World War, couple of stations down from here, there was a a Shiden Kai on a test flight crashed onto the train lines and an oncoming train derailed, killing 12 people and injuring 62. So, a bit of tragic history along this railway. [Music] This train is designed for four market. [Music] Well, that was a great little train ride down to Hoki Gucci station. Uh, hot dogs. Great. Yeah, really, really nice. But if you’re going down, try not to go at lunchtime because it was super busy down there. So, we’ve seen the timet. So, yeah, if you’re ever going down, go down before lunch or after lunch. Um, and the only problem is that the trains only run every hour. So when you get there, have your lunch, then you got to wait a little bit for the train to come back. But beautiful spot, nice and peaceful, great train ride, looking over the fields and yeah, awesome. Recommend it. So now we’re off to Fukushaki. We’re going to get another bike ride and uh ride around the town and look for all the yokai. Let’s go. [Music] [Applause] Welcome. Okay, we’re at Fukusaki station and we’ve just rented our bicycles. We’ve got our maps and now we’re going to ride around the town and find all the yokai. [Applause] Oh, this is a bit spooky. I don’t know which one. You’re looking you’re looking a bit sickly. Is it the old man or is it the old man? Oh, there he is. I think he’s looking up where we need to go next. Yeah, he’s saying it’s just down the road over that way. All right. Okay. I think he’s just You see, he’s put it on Google Maps there. I think if we just There we go. 2 minutes. 2 minutes. Thanks, mate. [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] What’s her name? Her name is You doing your makeup? Doing your makeup, man. Yeah, I I just Okay. Touch. Oh, very nice. Very nice. Lovely. Yama. Yamba. Yam. Yamamba. theu. There she goes. Look, I love her nails. Look, they got the bling on the nails and everything. Look at that. Look at that. Oh. Oh, that’s horrific. Yeah, she’s got a big set of chompers at the back of her head and she’s holding all the rice balls. All right. Now, Sam, while you’re here playing shogi with the uh Kappa. Yeah. Tell us the story of the Kappa. You see, Kappa are these delightful little guys. Yes. Who live in rivers, live in lakes. Yes. And the legend goes that if you go out at night Yes. A cap will grab you by the ankles and pull you into the water and try to steal your shitty kodama. What is the shitty kodama? It translates to small anus ball. Now, it is believed that this small anus ball, the shirik kodama, contains a human soul and that kappers find it quite delicious. However, it is said to smell just as bad as the anus that it was taken from. So, take from that what you will and I really hope I win this game. I had mine removed years ago. [Laughter] [Music] Uh, is that painful, Sam? [Music] [Applause] [Music] Look at it. It’s got the veins and the blood coming out. He’s got some nice blue green [Music] eyes and he’s got the [Applause] shittadama. Heat. Heat. N. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Looks like this guy’s uh had an accident. Look at that super creepy eyeball guy with the massive tongue. And next to it, we got a fresh fresh juice fresh juice. Oh, there goes the orange. It’s dropping it in there. Did I want an orange juice? No. Am I going to get one? Yes. Yes. I want to just 70% complete. Oh, nice. Oh, wait. It’s got a little bar up there. 70%. [Music] Oh, even puts a seal on it. Wow. Oh, cool. Look at that. Sealed. Oh, it’s cold. It’s cold. It’s freshly squeezed orange juice. That’s great. No gimmicks there. Well, I mean, the whole thing is a gimmick, but but that is 100%. That’s It’s what it’s selling. Yep. Does what it says in the tin. That’s true. That’s pretty good, eh? Oh, yeah. There you go. Freshly squeezed orange juice next to uh big tongue eyeball man. Very good. Oh yeah. What is it? It looks like a dong dog. It does, doesn’t it? What do they call it? Manity. Well, we made it back in one piece. Uh, definitely a lot more traffic through the town here than uh this morning around the museum, but that was a lot of fun. Well, that’s the end of our bike ride. Hope you enjoyed our excursion today. Two bike tours and a ride on the the train, the Hojo Railway. It was lots of fun. So, thanks for watching and leave a comment down below. What was your favorite Yokai? I know what mine was.
