ピラネー山脈の麓の雨天⛰️ フランスでのサイクリング最終日
Day 60. 46km (86564kms 8yrs)
I knew it was coming, and it arrived right on time in fact; heavy drops of rain on the tent beginning around midnight persisting intermittently until morning. There was no use in waiting for it to lift so I packed away as much as possible inside before packing down the sodden tent and attaching it to the outside of its usual pannier home.
Five kilometres later in Foix I found the castle closed for renovations, and a sleepy town square slowly coming to life on a grey wet Sunday morning. Probably it’s a lovely place in other circumstances but my feet were wet and I had a Warm Showers host to get to. The clouds remained low in the valley all day and I began to wonder if i would even see the Pyranees as I crossed them.
Although the gradient began to steepen in the afternoon around Tarascon, I was still making very good progress, but without the distraction of a castle visit I was about to arrive far too early. So I had an extended internet session in which I caught up on a few things and sent out a lot of Warm Showers requests to hosts in Andorra and Spain. Coming up to Easter I’m not very hopeful.
For now though it was a last opportunity to enjoy the incredible French Warm Showers hospitality. Bruno greeted me warmly, erecting a line in the garage from which I could dry my wet tent, before showing me to a top floor cosy guest room in his ski chalet home. Together with three other cyclists we ate a superb meal of Tagine (with a red wine so good I could cry!) followed by cheese and apple pastry. I couldn’t have hoped for a better final evening in France 🥲

That dinner looked delicious!
Snails, a delicacy in France. 😁
I was half expecting a slug to come crawling (?) over your shoulder when you were talking about the weather, and then later on you did find one that had hitched a ride 🙂
Ahhh i bet it smelled so fresh
