Biking a Musical Highway (S2/E11)
After the longest climb of the trip, I finally ride into Kusatsu Onsen, where I encounter a musical highway.
– This Episode is from day 3 of my trip
– The series is intentionally edited more raw in order to show what it is like to ride in Japan
– Footage was recoded on GoPro HERO12

Damn, that visit to the Mori-Tei restaurant took almost a month! Welcome back 🙂
I kinda missed doing these… Timestamp time!
0:00 Plan for this episode… Last episode we stopped at the Mori-Tei restaurant and now Pat is backtracking a bit (36.558575742501155, 138.610570250876)
0:34 Hi Pat! And once again, I need to find this spot in the middle of nowhere… Edit: Was really not that bad (36.604352225192656, 138.58353148945517). Pat skipped 7.8 Kilometers or 4.8 miles
2:12 Slower traffic end
3:05 Onsen and Sake!
4:10 Stone skulpture
4:47 Musical Highway! The song is called "Kusatsu Bushi" and is apparently a famous folksong and it is fittingly placed on the road before the onsen town Kusatsu
10:12 Arriving at Kusatsu and firefighter training
11:19 Seeing the bus we avoided taking
11:45 Steepness and freezing
12:09 Kusatsu Onsen Gate
13:54 Onsen for the feet on the left (草津温泉バスターミナル足湯)
And we end the episode in a random alley in Kusatsu, one street away from the spectacular looking Kusatsu onsen (36.62197933625984, 138.59724697644347)
What I love about making these timestamps is researching some trivia about some of the things… It's fun and you can explore the route together with Pat…
Like there are a couple of videos from 10 years ago, that drive over the musical road or that there is a lonely shrine if you were to turn left at 4:26
