  1. Popiah – comes with a slight sweet brown sauce, optional to spread chilly paste, shredded turnips, carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber,…alot of options.
These days, some wrap them with the japanese seaweed, but the authentic comes from the popiah skin…after all, it's called popiah

Peanut pan cake= Appam – notoriously available almost in most Malay eateries. These days, you see many variants with chocolate, creams…etc, the usual is peanut, sugar and some corns.

  2. Glad you enjoyed yourself! Btw, the 'totem pole; you saw near the Melanau house used to be how they buried people. 😅 The one you saw was fortunately a replica, at least as far as I know. Melanaus call them 'jerunai' while Dayaks know them as 'keliring'. Have a safe trip!

  3. 7:33 some chapels and churches in sarawak incorporate this style and Gothic together to make an all wood church. They're quite hidden and hard to come by but there are still quite a good amount in rural areas as well as in some towns like sarikei

  4. You should also check the borneo cultural museum – the largest museum in Malaysia and showcases all the tribes across borneo and almost it's entire history

  5. While there, you could be making a trip to the Kalimantan Indonesia Border…there are some good native souvenir markets there so it is worth visit..

  6. For Marianne & all us UK mums Happy Mother's Day 💐 (I just checked it falls on the 4th Sunday in Lent & has it's roots in a 16th century custom).

  7. Your videos are so wonderful to promote Sarawak to the outside world. I hope you will keep coming back to produce more videos on Sarawak. You have done a great job!!

  8. LAKSA SARAWAK….Anthony Bourdain famously called Sarawak laksa, a dish from Malaysia, the "breakfast of the gods". It's a noodle dish with a rich, spicy broth, and Bourdain's praise helped popularize it internationally.

  9. Hi Marianne and Chris… Do explore these places too

    1. Annah Rais longhouse and hot spring

    2. Saloma Home stay.. Close to nature, privacy and chasing waterfall

    3. Bako National Park

    4. Camp Permai

    5. The Village house, Santubong

    6. Ranchan Pool, Serian

    7. Kampung Sting, at Bengoh Dam… the village above the clouds.

    8. To experience authentic Dayak's cuisine, look for JAK MA'AN somewhere at Carpenter Street near the waterfront, Kuching

    And more…

  10. Arghh I missed you guys because I went back to peninsular for Raya Aidilfitri. Anyway I hope both of you had fun in Kuching.

  11. Just came across your vid….i love my coffee too n I'll definitely get one in Kuching, hopefully this year 🫰🏻

  12. Yayy! Thank you from British Columbia, grew up in Kuching, left when I was a teenager, not been back for a long time. Got a soft spot for my old hometown, so miss the food, sights, sounds and people

  13. What a beautiful place with variety of traditional houses, foods, shows… Funny what Chris said “what tastes good is unhealthy, law of the Universe”. Kuching, interesting city. 👍

  14. Your video is a great remedy for my homesickness. I grew up in Serian Sarawak but now live in the U.S. I wish you had explored the Bidayuh longhouses, like Annah Rais, or the Iban longhouses in Batang Ai—they offer a unique cultural experience. Thanks for showcasing Kuching! I admire your resilience in the humid climate.

  15. one of my Dayak friends brought me to where she lived, it was in the middle of nowhere but wow, I felt like I stepped into another world, just surrounded by open fields and each house was on a tiny hill and there were chickens and dogs running around, the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing

even though I live in a pretty nice neighbourhood with some forests still nearby, it was still a great experience

  16. Hello Ambassadors
This was one of the greatest videos that I watched. Thank you!
What nice tribe houses and traditions we learned from this video. Food as always was delicious.
    People were so nice!
Chris when you taste a food and if you utter " ummm" only once, that means the food is ok but if the first " ummm" is followed by the 2nd "ummm" that means you are CONFIRMING" that is is just awesome, delicious.
    Thanks folks. Have great "vacations"😂😂😂🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷👍👍👍

  17. Marianne is truly super woman – driving is cool, never flustered and always with a smile
The cultural center is phenomenal – enjoyed it a lot similar to Pacific Culture Center in Honolulu, Hawaii show-casing Tonga, Fiji and all other Polynesian islands dances and traditions

  18. Coffee grown in Malaysia is mostly Robusta and some Liberica. So you get 200% caffeine with less flavour notes and also less sourness compared to Arabica.

We usually roast it with butter or margarine.

It tend to taste stronger, woodier, smokier, richer.
