We start with an unforgettable fat biking tour through the snow-blanketed trails of Wakka Nature Center—same course I visited in summer, but now with a totally different vibe. From icy Lake Saroma views to warm coffee breaks and delicious local mint cookies, every moment was a breath of fresh, peppermint-scented air.

Then it’s time for more winter activities—think snowball fights, snowshoe trekking, and cycling on snow-covered sand dunes, all made possible thanks to Heroes Park, who offer outdoor experiences all year round. (Booking link below 👇)

On Day 2, I explored Kitami’s cultural side:
🧴 Mint Memorial Museum – discover how Japanese peppermint built Kitami’s economy
🦊 Kitakitsune Bokujo (Fox Farm) – where fluffy foxes strut their winter coats
🐟 Daichi Aquarium – home to fish that sometimes swim under frozen surfaces

We cap it off with a stop at the Okhotsk Beer Factory, where I try the local specialty shio yakisoba and some amazing onion-based dishes (Kitami onions are famous in Japan!)—plus, of course, a pint or two of excellent local craft beer.
