Koh Samet—an island just a short boat ride from the mainland—offers a perfect escape with its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back island vibes. My journey began at the pier, where I took the slow boat over, soaking in the anticipation of exploring this tropical paradise for the first time. Staying at a beachfront hotel on Ao Cho Beach, I had direct access to calm waters and a peaceful atmosphere, setting the tone for a relaxed island experience. From there, I ventured to Ao Phuttha Beach, a lesser-known stretch of sand with crystal-clear waters, before making my way to the famous Sai Kaew Beach, the island’s liveliest spot filled with beach bars, restaurants, and activities.

Exploring further, I headed to the southernmost point of Koh Samet, where rugged coastlines and panoramic sea views made for an epic adventure. Ao Wai Beach, a secluded gem, provided a break from the crowds, with its untouched beauty and serene surroundings making it a highlight of the trip. Along the way, I stumbled upon a charming viewpoint that perfectly captured the essence of the island—lush greenery meeting endless ocean views. Whether riding around on a motorbike or trekking through sandy trails, every corner of Koh Samet revealed something special, proving why it remains a favorite island getaway for locals and travelers alike.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Ao Prao Beach, also known as Sunset Beach, to witness the sky transform into shades of orange and pink. With the gentle sound of waves in the background and the sun dipping below the horizon, it was the perfect way to end my first experience on Koh Samet. From lively beaches to hidden gems, this island has a little bit of everything—whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or just a stunning tropical escape. Safe to say, Koh Samet left a lasting impression, and I can already see why so many people keep coming back.

  1. I think someone was pulling your leg. I’ve been here almost 30 years and never heard anyone say Samet is even in the top 10 of Thai islands. Sure it’s very close to BKK but it’s tiny and gets way over crowded & congested due to lack of space.

  2. Hi Paddy great video very informative and enjoyable as always. We are in Koh Phangan at the moment and have just rewatched your amazing $3 a night video where you went to that great viewpoint near Bottle Beach we. Are staying at nearby Salad Beach, having at last found the Thailand we love after 4 challenging days on the much changed Koh Samui. Chewang on Koh Sumui is just total tourist carnage and felt almost like the end of days, not a smile in sight from anyone tourist or vendor. We could never have imagined it getting this busy or horrible, we were staying in Fisherman’s village which was not much better. Thankfully visits to the Big Buddha Temple and a day out to the Marine park saved that part of the trip. We are off to Kho Tao again tomorrow and have enjoyed the first of what we hope will be two peaceful and awesome visits to Koh Phangan we are here for a month and have our final week in Krabi 🎉❤❤ we have rewatched lots of your content from the area, we are avoiding Phuket but hope we can find that peace and tranquility with nightlife and excitement a stones throw away. We are also finally getting to go to Riley beach 🏖️ and do some of those great island tours. Thanks again for all your amazing content. We hope that not too much of Thailand becomes a victim of its own success and popularity.

  3. Ah man! We were just in Thailand, wish you made this video earlier…We were looking for that chill quiet experience. With a little bit of vibe, that sounds perfect.

  4. Great video as usual!! I first visited there 25 years ago and have lovely memories from that first trip to Thailand. Sharing a $2/night bungalow with a fellow traveler, dancing all night, drinking rum, and watching sunrises with my new friends.
I finally returned last August during the rainy season. It was not crowded at all, mostly thais, and hardly rained. Which apparently is typical during the rainy season. We stumbled on a few of the beaches that you discovered and had a wonderful time, until my wife got heat stroke and spoiled our fun.
Compared to many islands it is still undeveloped and isn’t overrun by foreigners. It has everything one needs on an island paradise and is so easy to access from Bangkok. We will definitely be returning ❤❤

  5. I was there in August 24 and tbh I`d rather go to Koh Chang. I just didn`t get the vibe. I wonder what has happened to the ATM, as there was one at the side of one of the two 7 elevens in the town centre. I guess its OK for a weekend away if your living in Bkk, but anything more than that, I would recommend the extra travel distance. All tha said. If you`ve never been to Thailand before, and your looking for an easy to get to island from Bangkok, then you could do far worse.

  6. Been going back to kph samet for 26 years and me and my best mate will be there on the 1/3/25 I cannot wait☺️ Wong deung is my favourite beach on samet absolute paradise 😎

  7. why couldn't you bring your own scooter with you? Was it mainly b/c they wanted you to rent one there and to "control" the number of traffic on Ko Samet?

  8. Thank you Paddy for touring Ko Samet. Brought back great memories. Anyway I thought there were 3 atm 🏧 on the island. I have not been there since 2018. Thanks for sharing!! Enjoy your vlog. 😊
