Day 4 – Tokyo Kanda River Cycling

Today I arranged to spend half a day on the Kanda River, from Yanagi Bridge in Asakusa to Inokashira Park, the total distance was about 30 kilometers.

The room rate didn’t not include any breakfast, so I tried what breakfast for 1,200 yen was like. In the end, I was very disappointed. There were not many choices, but it was just getting you filling up.

Took the train to Akihabara Station at around 8 o’clock, then rode for another 15 minutes to Yanagibashi and set off. The Kanda River bicycle path was not clearly marked. You just rode along the road or dedicated pedestrian/bicycle path next to the Kanda River. Sometimes you had to leave the Kanda River and took a detour on the road.

There were two turning points on the Kanda River, so you could go wrong if you were not careful. You needed to turn right at Iidabashi and kept left at Nakano-Fujimachi Station. Since there were many large and small roads along the route, you needed to cross to the opposite side at zebra crossings on both sides. When you encountered a small road, you had to cross some bicycle barriers. Some of them had to be pushed over, while some could be passed at a slow speed. Since there werer such obstacles every 1-2 hundred meters, it is quite annoying.

It took about three hours to reach the final destination, Inokashira Park. The park is not big, and it only takes 15 minutes to complete a circle. The park is only 500 meters away from Kichijoji Station. There were parades at the station, which was very lively.

In the evening, I went to the Y’s Road bicycle shop in Shinjuku. There were not many Brompton bikes and they were probably bought up by pepole from Hong Kong. I bought a kickstand suitable for Brompton’s P Line.

Finally, I went to Kabukicho for dinner. The easiest way to have dinner alone was to eat ramen.
