I had a lightweight coaster brake single speed commuter bike that i rode daily for ten years until a tweaker took it from outside the grocery store last summer. I bought it from someone who was into bikes, and I'm ptetty sure it was a Frankenstein bike because none of the parts were branded etc. Im not a bike nerd, i like them and i can do basic maintenance but i dont know shit about them. Regardless, i fucking loved this bike. It took almost no maintenance and it was so lightweight i could carry it home if i couldn't repair it on the spot. I looked for my bike for a few months but eventually had to stop because it was making me insane (lots of bike commuters where i am) and began trying to replace The Precious.
Turns out that coaster brake bikes were cool here ten years ago and now it's impossible to find one or even get anyone at a bike shop to talk to me about them. I bought a single speed replacement off Craigslist but it's not a coaster brake and i just don't give a shit about the bike, it's not fun to ride and someone tried to steal the front wheel the first day i rode it so it's been sitting in the basement for 6 months. I'm finally ready to accept that i need to replace the bike i had, and Pure Cycles is having a sale on their coaster brake single speed for $300 but before i buy another bike that may not end up being what i want, can anyone offer me advice on how i would go about building one from scratch or tell me if the Pure Cycles?
I will post a picture of the stolen bike in case anyone can give me specifics on what i actually had before, i would so appreciate it. I would like to have as close as possible to what i had before and from the specs I've read on what's affordable in premade bikes, they're all at least ten pounds heavier than what i had. I dont know the person i bought it from anymore so i can't ask them for specifics. Thanks for reading!
